My name is Cass and I use any/all pronouns except she/her. I’m agender, trans, aroace, demialterous, a lesboy, and neptunic.

This is my LGBTQ+ blog, so I will be posting and reblogging stuff about my LGBTQ+ experience and other people’s experiences, as well as just fun LGBTQ+ themed posts. I will also reblog some posts that might not have to do with being queer, but are just important to see.

Hello person having transgender thoughts but convinced they aren't trans because they don't have the requisite amount of dysphoria they think they need

Hi I transitioned without even thinking I had dysphoria. Like later in hindsight I can go "oh that's probably what it was" but for the first year of my transition I was straight up like "I like being a guy but I like being a girl WAY more" and you can do that!! There is no prerequisite amount of suffering needed to make yourself happier.

Being aroace but also feeling a tertiary form of attraction (alterous attraction) was one of the most confusing parts of my identity to figure out. Before I knew what alterous attraction was, I only knew sexual, romantic, platonic, sensual, and aesthetic attraction.

I had a crush on one of my friends (and I still do). It made me kind of scared because at that point, I was 99% certain I was aroace, and I couldn't tell if I was experiencing romantic attraction or not. I didn't like the idea of dating and I didn't like the word "romance," and yet I also felt like I wanted to be more than friends with that person.

It wasn't until months after discovering I had a crush that I learned about alterous attraction. I liked the definition and I thought that if fit me best, so I started to use it to describe my crush. I felt way more confident using aroace again, because it felt right! And I had a way of explaining my feelings for my crush.

But oh my God, it was so hard to figure out.

Shoutout to people who are confused about their identity right now! Gender and sexuality is tough to figure out, but it's okay to question.

Bro this just like…made me completely realize that i am aromantic

Because im not romance repulsed, and the attraction for closeness i feel towards good friends feel like more than platonic, but also feels like romantic doesnt fit

So this made me look up the term and woah!! It fits!

Like i want to hold my childhood friend close watching a movie but i wouldnt want to date her! And my first and last gf? I love her yet really the best part about dating her was having a chance to get to know her better! (Also she was the one that pointed out the high chance of me being aromantic, no bad feelings between us and still close friends, but like holy shit it made so much sense after the initial HUH)

And so the fact im not romantically repulsed + was brought up extremely roman catholic, meant that affection and emotional vulnerability and trust was taught as something available only to lovers or relatives- WHICH IS SO WRONG

And reading stuff on here and researching about aromantic things just makes so many things in my life make sense! Ive never had a celebrity crush, never wanted to date when i was younger, but always wanted to show the people i was close to that i loved them!! And didnt know how!! Bc fucking strict catholic schooling and mother!!

But now im going to figure out a way to learn how to show the affection towards my friends that i want to

I wanna kiss the top of their head and make sure they have money for food and relax after a long day and put my head on their lap watching a movie!

I never felt comfortable doing that often tho bc of the way i was raised! But no!! Im going to change and slowly get used to showing affection the way i want to!

And no i dont want to date my friends! Im willing to go on dates with them if they want a nice night, but i wanna learn how to spend my life with the people i love without the pressure of “oh are you guys dating?”!

Like im not romantically repulsed so i dont mind doing things seen as romantic, but one of the few friends i care about more than anything else helped me realize that im not actually feeling romantic attraction when i do those things!

And it makes my entire life make sense- always focused on schoolwork instead of boys(or girls), always confused why you have to go one on one to a school dance(why wouldn’t you just go with your friends??), always confused by celebrity crushes(they’re a face on a screen? I like the character/actor but they’re just a human on film??? You’ve never even interacted with them??), and just so many tiny things that fit perfectly explained by being aromantic and experiencing alterous attraction

So, in short: being aromantic fit into my life so well, explained so much, but alterous attraction is the last piece that makes it fully click and makes how i feel towards the people im close to make sense- so thank you!!

Subtle reminder that being a masc woman / femme man doesn't mean you have to be trans. You're not in denial, closeted, ignorant or transphobic. Being trans is valid, but being a non-conforming cis is just as much.

You shouldn’t have to be trans to get any sex characteristic-related surgery. It’s not a limited resource. Plenty of cis men get implants and cis women get breast reductions. From Colby Gordon today and Leslie Feinberg in Transgender Warriors (1996).

Mildly annoying thing I've noticed: when someone says "not all nonbinary people are transmasc or transfem", a lot of well-meaning folks go "yeah! transneutral nonbinary people are valid too!" and it's like. thank you for the attempt but there are also nonbinary people who are not that, either. have we considered the somewhat controversial position of just acknowledging, including, and supporting nonbinary people regardless of how else they choose to describe their gender or transition? because right now it seems like you're only able to accept nonbinary people if you get to expand the latest binary to a trinary.

as important as pride month is, if it's just not your thing, or you can't be out or celebrate, that's perfectly okay. some queer people don't like all of the commotion and drawing attention to themselves, and that's okay. you can be proud in your own way, it can be a quiet thing, it doesn't have to be a raucous celebration. treat yourself well this month, but you're not obligated to be out and loud if you don't want to, or can't be. it's your choice. happy pride to you if you choose to celebrate quietly, or even not at all, or if you just can't for safety or personal reasons.
