Actually, no, I don't think that friendships dropping like flies in your late 20s and early 30s because no one has time for that between overwork and family obligations and marriage and kids and partners and the ritual of the time slayer is normal and ok. No I don't think deep conversations and spontaneous adventures being replaced with a tired coffee every six months is a normal part of growing up. I don't think that emotional intimacy and soul bonds disintegrating in the face of practical inconvenience is a fact of life. I think that means something is deeply deeply wrong with our society and I will never forgive it for the friends I've lost

Moreso, I love the narrative appeal. Melina is a fundamentally tragic character - she searches for purpose through devotion to others, before deciding to give herself up to force the world out of stagnation, so something better can grow. Take this quote:

I have set my heart upon the world that I would have. Regardless of my mother's designs. I won't allow anyone to speak ill of that. Not even you.

This is a clear demand for autonomy - a stepping out of Marika's shadow, and reclaiming her freedom in the desire for a better world. And I imagine, on the grueling trek up the Mountain, he decides to maybe reveal a secret truth of his to the Tarnished. Before it's too late.

Alternatively, in the Frenzied Flame Ending, he decides to get a haircut and self-actualize out of spite, before he hunts down the Lord of Frenzied Flame, for taking away the world he dreamed about.

The issue with video game is that the more you lay the more they start all feeling them same. And inevitably you start to wonder why you're playing "new game" when "old favorite game" was better. So you go play old favorite instead. But it feel stale compared to first experience.

It's really weird replaying a game that was so important to you as a kid 22 years ago. Because you remember it as a fundationnal experience and as the standard you've compared every similar game to since then. But after all this time you have a wider horizon and cultural understanding, so what seemed genre defining now feels uninspired and derivative.

i guess ive been so fatigued of melina theories that “melina was one of the black knives” never actually occurred to me until posited to me directly. and i have been rolling that around in my hands and i DO like it….

explains why the blade of calling’s moveset is like that of the black knives. she is a numen. explains why she would have that eye, even, if she was part of the night of black knives plot, getting a part of the rune that was stolen. explains the elevator cell. maybe even explains why she was burned, as punishment or sacrifice for taking part in that…??

i do like it. i do like it. very fun, and adds a LOT more spice to her role
