Come on Nintendo, let the Wild Era die.
$80 for a game about a crappy Princess Zelda, three boring and bland characters, and 4 literal no-face NPCs? This story should have been in Totk.
Totk's story is basically unsalvagable. It's not just inconsistent with its predecessor, it's inconsistent with itself.
But IF they attempt to tell the story of the Imprisoning War, here is what it can address to try to retify this one director's wet dream to retcon LttP and OoT.
Explain why Zelda can understand Rauru and Sonia despite the fact their language should be different. And even if there is an explanation, cover why she isn't shocked to hear a dead language.
Explain how Zelda teleported across space when her powers are explicitly about time and do not work the way they did at the beginning of her time travel. AKA she should not have just been able to appear halfway across Hyrule through her time travel like that.
Explain why Zelda is willing to help the past despite the fact she has no idea if her actions will change her future, but also for some reason did NOT tell Sonia and Rauru about Link, the corpse under the castle, etc.
Explain why Zelda isn't able to put "Ganon" and "Ganondorf" together despite it being known IN UNIVERSE that Calamity Ganon was once a Gerudo man.
Explain why Zelda is willing to hand over "modern" technology to Mineru without worrying about messing up the timeline. (Related to Q.3)
Explain why Zelda and Sonia thought it was a good idea to go after an unknown entity roaming the castle alone.
Explain how Ganondorf got into the room on the SECOND FLOOR without being noticed or heard to assassinate Sonia. Did he teleport? And if he did, then why bother with a phantom at all?
Explain why Ganondorf is so much stronger than 7 people with the same magic stones, when he needed the stone himself just to stand up to Rauru? Why does his stone juice him up so much more than 7 people combined?
How did Zelda conclude that holding the Master Sword will ensure it will be part of her dragon body? Kinda a gamble.
How did they end up so deep underground at the end of the war? Did they follow him there? Trick him down there?
Why did the Gerudo Sage betray her people?
Why didn't Zelda leave pictures on the purah pad for Link to act as clues? Not even a note! There is no reason to keep him in the dark.
Realistically, I expect to only get answers for 3, 5, 6, 10, and 11.
There are more questions that need answering but man.... I don't really care. I'm not buying an 80 game for a shit story that spits on two of the greatest Zelda games ever made.
