Finally got myself a pair of Tom's. How long will that crisp white canvas finish last? One of the original pioneers of social entrepreneurism...and a great story teller
I’m thinking that perhaps I have a pants obsession! This fellow south coast business buys up the fabrics that are been sold on by big pants (we’ll call it underwear) companies at the end of season and turns them into wonderful new pants. Preventing the fabric ending up as waste means that coining the phrase ‘recycled pants’ isn’t such a bad thing after all.
Well a Merry Xmas and Happy New Year to all! An exciting 2013 ahead!
The Girl Effect by Nike. A beautifully created video infographic that gets across its message simply and eloquently.
Ideas should be born to live, not built to die

Back from an incredible week in Northern Ethiopia, meeting the incredibly friendly people there and working with Vision Aid Overseas to give sight to those who would otherwise be unable to afford prescription glasses. This is Jamie, my photographer whose photos we will see more off in the future.
The boys we call Ben and Jerry, curators of stupendous ice cream flavours have made a very exciting move towards supporting emerging social enterprise. The competition 'Join Our Core' offers to provide financial and mentoring support to 5 winners who are able to come up with great ideas that stand up to the test by Fairtrade farmers in Uganda. In addition, there will be the kudos and great marketing opportunity of having your name being printed on their tubs of Ice Cream.
Pants to Poverty have been making rather marvellous pants for thr last 5 years. Not only that, they support over 5,000 Indian farmers in doing so. We get organic cotton, sexy pants made and the farmers get fair trade for their great work.
Chinti & Parker have been around for a couple of years now and I love their desire to strive for the holy trinity of organic, carbon neutral and fair trade garments (for the luxury market). It really is incredibly difficult to get all three to align, but C&P look like they are craking this nut. The image is a screen grab of their 'atlas' to highlight the provenance of the gaments that they sell. A nice touch...
H&M proving their ethical credentials by launching their ‘Exclusive Conscious’ collection for those red carpet occasions. All of the pieces have been made from sustainable materials such as organic cotton, hemp and recycled polyester. Already we see a swathe of Hollywood types such as Viola Davis, Amanda Seyfried and Kristin Davis seen about in some of these great designs. Nicely done.
The judges: Kay Baron, Fashion Features Editor at Harper's Bazaar (left) and Maia Adams, co-founder at Adorn Insight (3rd from left). Also in the picture is Claire Forster, Accesories Editor at Stylesight and Hywel Davies Course Tutor for Fashion communicationsand Promotion at Central St Martins.
"we continuously look at ways to use recycled and environmental materials by invention, innovation and design. We make cool and funky everyday products, by using a sort of mix between Willy Wonka and alchemy.”
Just stumbled upon this great British company Greenknickers. With a mantra of 'through fun, not fear' they are are a refreshing addition to the pants market. Love the creaivity around some of their designs, better still the use of organic cotton an support of fair trade.
The Five Have Been Chosen...
It's taken some serious discussion, but we have now decided the five award winners of the design competition set for the students of the FC&P course at Central St Martins. Winners will be announced at CSM on Monday 27th Feb. Prizes, drinks and a great bunch of people make for a decent evening.
