Kiss on the thigh from Ling Yao
Ironically, I almost forgot October 3rd
Would anyone delight in a wip?
The late morning was peaceful today.
Not to mention, nature really likes its morning song. Birds chirping cheerily, breeze blowing like a smooth tenor and the leaves on the trees rustling together like a harmonizing choir.
But Ed’s favorite sound by far is the shuffling of Al’s feet as he inches to the other side of the room. Ed watches too, each hesitant yet excited step. He observes every time his brother’s crutches land with a thunk against the wooden floor and his smile grows wider the farther he gets.
The pride wells up in his chest even as he can see the minute details showing that Al was fighting collapse. It doesn’t go out even when he does fall with a yelp and Ed has to come in and catch him under the arm on his left side. He got farther than yesterday. It was only maybe five steps more but that didn’t make it less deserving of Ed’s pride.
Al’s panicky expression peers at Ed for a moment and no longer as they both let out chuckles. Not really because it was funny, but because it was nostalgic. A metal leg isn’t something you get used to over night after all.
“Okay, okay. I’ve got this. Totally got this!” Al said, his voice crystal clear and just a bit deeper than Ed was used to. That was the thing about having vocal chords isn’t it? They grow and change with the body.
“Sure you do.” Ed says, not really meaning the sarcasm in his voice. Still, Al gives him a look that tells him if he weren’t acting as his support at the moment, his dear younger brother would’ve smacked him upside the head. Ed huffs a laugh.
Together they steady Al back on his feet. His crutches firmly supported his weight. Ed steps back carefully and once Al seems to have his balance, he begins again, legs a bit weak but determined and persistent. Ed would be a hypocrite to tell him not to push himself, as if Al needed reminding for that kind of thing.
In the meantime, Ed swiftly grabs the wheelchair folded up in the corner, ready with it unfolded for the moment that Al makes it to the other wall.
“One foot in front of the other. One foot in front of the other.” Al mumbles to himself. Each of his steps carefully spaced and calculated. “It’s not even a science, just one two, one two–”
“The man himself says as he counts his steps.” Ed jokes, unable to resist the teasing. Al pauses, and stands straight the best he can as he turns his head to glare at Ed.
“Brother, I love you, but I will hurt you.” He threatens. Ed sticks his tongue out at him. “I’d love to see you try.” Is Ed’s response. Al pouts and turns again to continue his daunting journey across the room.
The brothers both hold their breath as Al got just a few feet away from the wall. One step, then another and another and—
His hand touches the wall.
Immediately the two of them whoop with excitement. Ed came in quickly with the wheelchair so that Al could sit down. Ed wrapped an arm around his brother’s shoulder. Nothing harsh or tight due to his body’s sensitivity and weakness, but the hug was warm regardless and Al leaned into it.
It’s been a couple of months now since the Promised Day. Definitely over four but Ed would have to find a calendar to say for certain which month it was. Al has been improving steadily since that day too. Just two weeks ago he had been cleared to start physical therapy, that of which Ed and Winry were in charge of. Why would Al need hired help when Ed has done it himself and Winry has more than the necessary qualifications to assign and monitor it?
Of course, Al was going to need a wheelchair for a long while. Ed knew this and was more than prepared to wait and work at Al’s pace no matter what. However, his brother, the miracle that he was, was improving at a faster rate than expected.
Four months may sound like a lot, but it really wasn’t if you take into account that his body had only just enough nutrients to survive, that it was unused and overly sensitive and before had lacked the muscles to even properly stand up on his own. Now though, he was filling out, his bones getting less and less visible as the weeks flew by and his skin got used to sensations again. His muscles grew steadily and Al itched to get out of bed and get moving already.
All that was really just to say that Ed was damn proud of his brother.

Since Tumblr doesn't want this gorgeous gift as a pfp, it shall be my banner. Okay? Tumblr can't do shit to me-
Hi, uh this is probably a bit weird, but I have a question.
I'm trying to write an Edling fic right now and I want to use a bit of chinese. Like Ling calls Ed a nickname. And while I do love using nicknames as it pertains to how Ed looks, I want to see if I could find something else before going that route just to see the options.
Problem is I don't actually know chinese and I don't want to be offensive or use google translate cause it could just be wrong. I mean I could always just not and use italics or something but if I can then I want to.
Then I remembered that you use a lot of chinese phrases in your fics and you don't use google translate so I've been dying to ask but I got nervous and put it off a lot and I'm very obviously doing a nervous ramble, oh geeze.
Okay the question. Do you have any ideas for chinese nicknames that Ling would give Ed? I was kinda exploring on the net a little and found that depending on where you look, in Old English his name could mean 'rich guard' or 'wealthy guard' and it could also mean 'prosperous protector' but my exploring wasn't really a deep dive so I could be wrong there but I really like the idea of a play on his name too.
My god this is long winded, I'm really just wondering if you have any ideas that haven't been used and/or popularized yet cause I don't want to be culturally offensive if I can help it.
P.s: I adore your Edling fics, they bring me joy and whimsy and inspiration.
Hey ho!! I LOVE a good ramble, dw about it at all!
Thinking outside the box for nicknames for Ed is pretty good, and I fully encourage you to do deeper research into the language, but I think I need to clarify something: using google translate itself is not inherently bad. Taking what it spits out at you without double-checking it nor even asking yourself if it makes sense is what's bad—which is what most ppl tend to do, hence my advising against it.
If you know you'll double-check the translation, or you're just using it for singular words, then by all means, use that tool! At least it's not frickin' ai.
As far as plays on Ed's name meaning, I have two suggestions. First of all, consider looking up Mandarin names with meanings similar to Ed's! What first came to mind for me was 杰 (jié); it can mean hero, someone outstanding, etc... Toss in a prefix like 小 (xiǎo), and that can be a cute little nickname for Ed.
THAT'S JUST AN EXAMPLE THO! I encourage you to do your own research into several other names, because the variety is crazy!
My second suggestion would be to look into Chinese myths! Specifically, any animals or such that are seen and celebrated as "protectors". I can see Ling making a nickname for Ed based on one of those!
Chinese names inherently hold deep meaning because of how they're made up of several other smaller symbols mushed together into one character, so whatever name Ling comes up with, if it's gonna stick, I don't think he'd choose it lightly. So keep that in mind!
That is all the wisdom I have for you, my student. Now, go forth... and go ham.
Aaaaahhh! Thank you so much for the guidance!!! I'll definitely be sure to look into it and it really works out for me cause I do enjoy learning about mythologies and cultures and I love adding details with significant meaning so this will definitely fuel my motivation!! Now I shall venture into the wild and research like there's no tomorrow- Thank you very much my Teacher <3
Posting here cuz don’t really post on tiktok but I wanted to try this trend out even tho I’m a little late to the game 😛 also my first time using alight motion… an experience for sure..
So this has been a long time coming. 3 years, jesus-

Okay so @cafe-pothos was casting wbk characters in alien stage and I contributed my two pence which included suginirei as ivantill.
I haven't stopped thinking of suginirei as ivantill since...
Sorry I'm dooming yaoi again
I have a vision in my head of Suo and Nirei wearing Sakura Protection Squad t-shirts (they're both very proud) and then Suo and Sakura wearing Nirei Protection Squad t-shirts (Suo is still proud, Sakura is bright red but going along with it cuz well it's not wrong) and then Nirei goes "wait we're missing something" and Nirei and Sakura get Suo Protection Squad t-shirts while Suo smilingly bluescreens
Man the things I would actually give to see fanart of this
I have a mute character in the story I’m writing and one of my beta readers suggested I use italics when they sign so that I don’t have to keep peppering “they signed” or “their hands flashed” throughout the piece.
But like…I always read italics in a different tone like they’re thoughts. It seems quieter than using normal quotations which makes what they say look less significant on the page than other character’s dialogue.
I really don’t think my audience needs me to use completely different punctuation around a mute character. There’s no need to act like they’re speaking a different language since their muteness isn’t a focal point in the story.
So really this reader’s comment has done the complete opposite of what they intended. Now I’m actively taking out as many of my “hands flashed” notations as possible and just writing in normal body language because, clearly, the other characters understand them and my audience doesn’t need to be coddled.
As an HOH reader and writer I can affirm that once the signing has been established it can just be treated like “said”.
You can add little things for emphasis though, like how fast or flippant a sign is given, also a lot of our “punctuation” is in facial expressions, so wild looks is kind of normal. Also messing up signs and just.. pushing them aside. Like, you mess up a fingerspell and just take both hands and shove the air in front of you to your side, people who sign eventually end up doing this for other things, like a “forget it” motion. It’s like a “wave it off” gesture.
Body language for someone who signs is a lot more animated than someone who speaks, as we use our upper body a lot in our conversations, so the act of “signing” is more than just hand signals.
Yes….yes GOOD this is the good stuff right here. I’m going to incorporate some of these ASAP ESPECIALLY the pushing the air but to clear it of your mistakes
In case you wanted to make your story more realistic to signing in general:
If your character is only partially mute (as in they can sometimes speak) or newly mute (they recently lost their ability to speak and previously knew how to do so in the common tongue) and/or grew up around hearing people who speak even if they never could, keep in mind that they have a different signing “accent” for lack of a better word.
People who are Deaf And Learned Sign As Kids instead of the common tongue will be more fluent, they’ll have a wider vocabulary, their signs will be fluid and fast, like speaking to anyone in their first language. They will not have to mentally translate their thoughts to sign the way someone who learns sign as their second language would have to - they already think in sign. Traditionally, sign language even in American or British sign goes in spanish sentence structure, not english. They will be difficult for anyone who is NOT a fluent signer to understand! If your character isn’t fluent, they will probably need to ask fluent signers to slow down!
Meanwhile if your character is Mute, there’s a good chance that they weren’t always, OR they grew up around people who could both hear and speak. Their signing will be more rudimentary (even if the hearing speaking people around them teach them sign at an early age instead of just having them write down what they want to say, bc most people do not care to accommodate you if you can’t speak at all), at least until they learn it better from other signing people. Their vocab will be smaller, and their signs may be slow and clumsy. They may have to finger spell a lot. They will probably get frustrated with their inability to articulate what they want, and they may frequently need to resort to writing down what they want to say. They’ll also likely put signs in the same sentence structure as the language the people around them spoke. This literal translation of each sentence WILL confuse fluent signers!
When talking to deaf people, or other fluent signers, there are a few pretty widespread cultural things you could consider as well: for example, Deaf Time! Deaf time means that once you start talking with a deaf person/fluent signer with no other means of communication, They won’t stop till the conversation is done or you literally have to leave! The chance to sign with someone you don’t know tends to be pretty rare, and the language barrier in general makes deaf people/people who sign exclusively pretty isolated. There’s also the fact that signing with a flat face is only common in non-fluent signers; your expression determines some words! The difference between “good” and “great” comes down to your expression, and signing either with an impassive face is the equivalent of talking in a monotone. Not necessarily rude - but fluent signers will be able to clock you. (I know this bc my autistic ass cannot sign the difference between words like that, and it drove my teachers nuts.)
I hope that helps and that I’m not too late
Source: I’m hard of hearing and selectively mute and my signing accent is absolutely abhorrent :)
Love when people just info dump when giving writing advice. Makes me happy
Part 8
There's just something I love about the fact that Suo says Sakura's name so much
WBK x JJK x Kn8 crossover!!! with a hint of stsg
i'm back with this crossover again, but this time the cats (Gojo, Narumi & Sakura) and Nirei join in too. I'm really happy that people are enjoying this crossover, so please share with me if you have any fun ideas about them!
also, Sakura is lowkey happi with the idea of having a big brother (and two dads), i think ( ꈍᴗꈍ)
Other parts of this crossover:
Shopping for clothes (the foxes)
Cursed Spirits (the foxes)
The way Sakura is being manhandled like a ragdoll, help 🤣🤣🤣
SOUSHIRO IS LITERALLY ME BC DUDE WHAT THE FUCK ARE THEY ON XDXDXD
Lowkey love this actually. Also love that Sakura wants absolutely no part of this-
(Older brothers are awesome my guy but then they start fighting about who is the strongest and you just gotta run while you can.)
What Does He Eat, Anyways?
@saesaechen I may or may not have gotten my sib (who is a fanfic writer who ALSO loves all three fandoms and characters) hooked on the crossover idea and she wants to write it now so...XD
Timelines are being meshed together and I impulsively made a two page comic for it, so we got Geto in first year of highschool, Suo is in his third year of middle school, and Hoshina is a regular defense force officer (not too long before he gets into 3rd division) (I don't know what Suo looked like in middle school so it's not very obvious, rip).
My sib was going on a rampage connecting timelines and relations between the three that could potentially lead up to their meeting and eventual bonding and I'm just here drawing lil' guys, lmao-
Anyways, I hope you like it!
Boy do I love this little trio of foxes.
She has done nothing wrong, ever. Seriously.
(Request by anon. Hope this finds you somehow! Maxi skirt and oversized sweater as asked <3)
She has done no wrong and is forever the cutest.
Kattythingz knows what's up all the time.
OKAY they're done! You can claim your tickets, manga readers 😆
