Meet the Designer: Ty McBride of Intentionally __________.
Last February, we met Ty McBride, the owner and founder of INTENTIONALLY ______________. pronounced “Intentionally Blank”). Formerly the Global Brand Manager of Jeffrey Campbell footwear and the Creative Director of Solestruck, we were first attracted to Ty’s original label because of his experience and familiarity with the good, the bad, and the ugly of the mid-tier shoe market. But when we went up three flights to his small studio in the LA Fashion District and spent an hour getting to know Ty, hearing about his design philosophy, and maybe trying on every sample shoe in the room, we’re now lucky to know Ty not only as a shoe guru but as a friend.
INTENTIONALLY ______________’s mission is to create a timeless shoe brand that uses quality materials and labor practices to offer a fresh selection of staples for every woman’s closet. They aren’t fast-fashion cheap, but the leather uppers and wood heels, the padded insoles and durable metal zippers have already created a cult following for INTENTIONALLY ______________. They’re beautiful, they last, and they are part of a great brand story that we’re totally rooting for. Meet Ty and learn more about the man behind our favorite shoes.
1. Tell us about you!
I am:
Youngest of three.
38 years old
A homsexual with goals of becoming a power gay by 40.
Obsessed with denim.
A low level stalker.
Not ashamed that I have a phone psychic, her name is Denise.
A firm believer in networking.
A Leo.
I have my own hashtag. #aginggayhipster
2. What’s your drink order?
In the last year this has taken a shift! I now drink Tequila soda with a handful of lemons. I also have a signature cocktail I craft for parties, special events, or soirees. Its called the Ty-tini. Ingredients of the Ty-tini are held under lock and key. I can also be seen in certain settings with a white wine spritzer—i mean—why not!
3. When I’m not at work, you can catch me at _________.
I do not understand this question? Not at work? Who’s she? LOL! Okay I’m trying, I am trying! More balance! Since moving to LA just over two years ago, my non-work hobbies include trips to Palm Springs, blanket moments at Barnsdall park, and never missing a Rosebowl flea market!
4. Who would you give the biggest hug ever to? Who would you punch in the throat?
HUG: Syrian refugees simply looking for a new start.
THROAT PUNCH: I mean the logical answer is Donald Trump right, but in addition to that I would also be down to toss a throat punch towards the person who set the Kardashian fame in motion.
5. My biggest crush is __________.
This question is a hard one for me. When I say that I crush a lot and crush hard, this is not an exaggeration. I have one lifetime, actual crush, he gets his own list, but other than that, I am currently crushing on our Latino Fedex Ground delivery guy, Kevin Spacey, anyone who offers or brings me an iced Americano to work.
6. Where were you born?
I was born on the border of Oregon and Idaho in a small town called Ontario Oregon. I was raised there, as was all my family. My entire family resides there, I left home the first time at 16, the final time at 18. It was a magical place to grow up. Small town America. My family are very important to me. I love them. I see them often, headed home in June!
7. Who’s your hero?
The pageant queen in me wants to say my dad.
8. What’s the title to your autobiography?
Raised at the foot of a dormant volcano—the humble beginnings of a power gay with tiny pores.
9. I can’t live without?
Iced Americanos
Coconut oil
My network of friends.
10. My signature style is _________.
Baby Bangs up front, show pony in the back.
11. If I could have one wish _________.
I am a big believer in the power of education—and I mean that in all it’s formats and varieties. I would wish everyone could receive education.
12. What was the inspiration behind your best-selling Honcho and Hatter styles?
Honcho was an actual existing boot I found in the factory archives. I cut it with a pair of scissors and sculpted it down, then added what I thought was a perfect strap to make it modern. The nod to 90’s biker fashion is there of course, but I wanted it to also look sleek and chic, despite the kind of clunky shape. HONCHO has become the brand’s signature shoe.
HATTER has also become a strong recognizable shoe for the brand. I wanted to do something to get in on the corset trend, but for me, I just don’t see my woman as wanting a HIGH heel, and something so OPEN as the majority of these front lace shoes. The heel is where I started and I wanted essentially to create a ballet flat—with the perfect heel. HATTER is meant to go with everything—and it’s meant for the individual to style it as they see fit, that is why I love that shoe. We are launching a new range of HATTERS for summer transitioning into fall—we are releasing over 25 limited edition colorways, versions, and limited run HATTERS.
13. I’m super curious about _______.
Detroit Michigan.
14. What do you want us to say at your funeral?
You won’t have to say anything. I have paid one of those web services that organize everything from the playlist, to the menu. Just come to the party, but don’t come wearing some tired shoes, honey.
We love you, Ty! Thanks for taking the time to share yourself with us and with our customers.
GIRLS SUPPORT GIRLS. Shop the collection in unisex sizes S-3X and youth XS-XL.
10 Glamping Tips You’ll Have To Read To Believe
1. Make bundles of sage and rosemary to keep away the evil spirits of dudes/girls you’ve ghosted.
2. Think ahead! Stick to packing white wine to avoid unfortunate stains on your white king size feather duvet.
3. A boot/flip flop hybrid is not only practical, but sure to keep you cool! Not to mention this style will easily and casually show off your hot pedi to all the other glampers.
4. We recommend packing 24-48 mason jars (however many cases you can fit in the hatch of your Navigator) that can be used for storage, bug catching, making jar cupcakes over the campfire and mixing your own DIY salt scrub to rinse off that unsightly lake algae.
5. We love finding new uses for old things! Create a thrifty DIY personal toilet paper holder by repurposing any heirloom string of pearls you have laying around! Just slip the roll of toilet paper onto the necklace and re-clasp it around your neck. Your TP supply will be at the ready whenever nature calls.
6. Mix one ounce of Tom Ford White Pachouli with two ounces of apple cider vinegar and any of your Young Living Essential Oils for a DIY bug spray that won’t keep the boys away (this is a great opportunity to use one of your mason jars)!
7. Just because you’re roughing it doesn’t mean you can’t indulge! We came up with this sinful delicacy that sure to have you head over your 2 inch nude patent platform heels. Toast marshmallows until they’re oooey and gooey, put them between two graham crackers and add a square of Hershey’s chocolate in the middle. Wait for it to melt together and then happily indulge! Simply sinful.
8. Even though the park rangers are out, there’s no excuse to leave the comforts of home behind. We’ve always had luck keeping our quaaludes and marijuana cigarettes in a folded up diaper. Hands off the Pampers, park rangers! They’ll never think to look. ;D
9. Deforestation due to forest fires is a real threat to our natural environments, so leave your designer candles at home. Instead, fill a mason jar with locally sourced beeswax found in any nearby forest. No wick? No problem! Just dip an organic tampon absorbent-end first into the jar and let the string hang over the edge as the wax hardens. Your candle will be ready in mere moments to fill the glampsite with the cotton-fresh scent of tampons and bee excrement.
10. Leaky yurt? No problem! When you run out of mason jars to catch the drips, simply dip into your vase of decorative corks and use as many as necessary to plug the holes. Presto!
Have you met Shannon? No? Well let’s fix that problem immediately! A longtime member of team Hello Holiday (OG as hell), Shannon was recently promoted to the very official title of Magic Maker + Showroom Manager (and she’s got the business cards to prove it) for our Omaha HQ! Here’s a little speed-dating-round-one so you can skip the awkward convo when you actually meet Shannon in-store. If you can’t tell, we think she’s pretty great.
1. Tell us about you! I think the three most important things you could know about me are: I love karaoke theme parties, I give great birthday presents, and later in this interview I will say Santa is my hero and that is not a joke answer. I REALLY mean it. I also make the most amazing pizza.
2. What’s your drink order? Cold brew coffee, in the biggest size they can legally serve.
3. When I’m not at work, you can catch me at __________. The board game cafe, playing with a combination of good friends and strangers. It’s easy to find a friend to play CLUE. If you want to play the game where you move wooden cubes to unify the common language in late medieval Italy…that kind of thing requires very specific friends with very particular interests. Which makes it sound a little like a key party. But instead of polyamorous sex, it’s studying with St Francis to become pope!* *yes this is a real game, and it’s not even the nerdiest one I play. Punches: your big bad ex. That dude/chick was the worst. You want someone to punch them in the the throat for you? Girl I got this.
9. I can’t live without __________. It would be to dismantle the patriarchy. If I could have TWO wishes my second wish would be to own a minipig farm. But first, the patriarchy. Definitely.
4. Who would you give the biggest hug ever to? Who would you punch in the throat? Hugs: my best friends Ashley in Chicago and Lara in Brooklyn. They are the Abbi to my Ilana and the Ilana to my Abbi, respectively. They both moved out of state last year, and now I find, in good times and bad, that emoji just can’t capture the feeling as an in-person trip to hugtown.
5. My biggest crush is __________. Ethan Embry and Robin Tunney, both circa Empire Records.
6. Where were you born? Central Nebraska. I came to Omaha for a boy and to make art. The boy thing didn’t work out but the art turned out better than I had ever imagined. I’ve been having a love affair with this city for 10 years, and I’ve gotten to work with some of the coolest projects in town–theaters, cabarets, entrepreneurs, non-profits. I’ve emceed karaoke and hosted variety shows. I taught dating violence awareness and anti-bullying programs in schools. I spent a number of years getting paid to pretend to be a puppy. And now of course I’m working at the cutest store in the universe, for two of the most inspiring ladies I’ve ever met. Omaha’s been good to me. I’m a big fan.
7. Who’s your hero? Santa.
8. What’s the title to your autobiography? GLITTERPEE: A Life Of Enthusiastic Imbroglio Caffeine. Bumble&bumble Tonic Lotion. Liquid eyeliner. Mr Clean Magic Erasers. Jelly shoes. If I mention pizza again would it seem obsessive? Whatever. Pizza.
10. My signature style is __________. If a 90s hype girl was getting ready for a fancy Christmas party and drinking wine and putting on fancy eyeliner, and then she realized that she was going to be ready WAY TOO EARLY (she was just so excited!) so she lays down in her party dress and a cat, no, two cats take a nap on top of her…and then someone calls her and asks why she’s not at the party, so she rushes out with her eyeliner smudged and cat hair on her dress and like, a hoodie over it? That’s what I usually look like when I go to work.
(Is that too weird? If that’s too weird just put Hip Hop Witch)
11. If I could have one wish, it would be __________.
It would be to dismantle the patriarchy. If I could have TWO wishes my second wish would be to own a minipig farm. But first, the patriarchy. Definitely.
YES YES YES! OUR ANGEL.

#tbt to this morning when I accidentally texted this photo to my father in law instead of my husband. Everything is under control. 😝
@helloholidayomaha is closed for construction this week! Pls enjoy this photo of a cool thing + my feet. ❤️❤️❤️ (at Hello Holiday Omaha)

Gettin' there (✨shag carpet 4-ever✨).
Finally trying out one of @limecrimemakeup's Velvetines today. Wearing Red Velvet (which is like, my least fave cake flavor, btw). Obviously late to the party but has anyone else tried these? I like it so far but had to use a little liner to even my top lip out (it's a little uneven to begin with). The color reminds me of Ruby Woo. 💋💋
Good morning!
The camera on my phone won't focus so please enjoy this photo @jennymick sent me. ✌️
