As an armor enthusiast, I have to say, I am a bit disappointed with this collection. And Iâm gonna do a piece-by-piece review here on the armor.
I can tell straight away that Jasmine is heavily inspired by Assassinâs Creed here, as the aesthetics give it away. Middle Eastern armor was certainly lighter than European armor, but they did have heavy armor as well. And if you argue that the armor is light so that the Carpet can carry her, I will counter with that Carpet has carried two people at once, which is a lot heavier than one person wearing heavy armor.
Aurora has a few steps up, but there are some things I want to point out: She doesnât have a helmet and the pauldrons wonât do its actual job, which is deflecting blows. These are designed to keep the blade in place, which is hazardous for her. I do not approve.
I will give points to Belle because she doesnât live in a period where plate armor was required anymore as guns were emerging rapidly. So as a gunslinger with an arming sword, Belle is more focused on movement instead of taking blows. So, yeah, okay.
Snow White, from what I can tell, is just wearing a cuirass. She could definitely use a helmet since I can clearly see a scar across her eye. Had a little run-in with the Queenâs soldiers? This is why you wear a helmet as it covers your most vital and vulnerable body part. Also, the scapula is totally unnecessary.
Rapunzel has one knee-cap and boots. And thatâs it. As a rogue, I would approve. As a fighter... no. Just no.
I honestly donât know what to make of Tianaâs suit, as itâs basically thigh high boots made of leather with matching gloves. I also canât see what weapons sheâs carrying so Iâm leaving it blank here.
So far, Cinderella looks the best, with her cuirass, gauntlets, and greaves. The scapula up front looks cool, as well. I have only two gripes with her: Again, the lack of a helmet and her shoulder pads. Looks neat on a dress, but not so much on heavy armor.
Ariel, I will admit that she doesnât have much to work with, and she lives underwater, so heavy armor would just slow her down. Still, she is appropriately armed for a fight with a long lance and a cutlass, I think, as a back-up weapon. Having a giant crustacean as a battle mount is extra points.
Pocahontas... Now weâre getting somewhere. She isnât European, so her outfit is brilliant, in that it is leather armor and padding. As an archer, she is appropriately dressed for combat and for mobility. So now we have someone who looks quite decent.
And I am most impressed with Mulan as that is the most realistic armor I have seen on these girls. Bonus points because she actually was in the army so it makes sense for her to wear armor befitting of Chinese high-ranking officers and royalty. Again, a lack of helmet, but Iâll let that slide this time.
Overall, it could have been done better. It was mostly 50-50 here, and it could use some improvement. I will admit that this was done to ID the princesses, but I will state that personalized armor is a thing. Feel free to point out anything I missed.
