Ho letto libri noiosissimi solo perché li sentivo nominare a scuola o li trovavo nella biblioteca di casa. Se tutti dicevano che bisognava leggerli, e se quei libri esistevano, come potevo non leggerli io? Le Tragedie di Vittorio Alfieri, gli Inni sacri del Manzoni, le Confessioni di un italiano. Ogni tanto avevo la tentazione di smettere ma poi, quando meno me l’aspettavo, mi imbattevo in un verso o in una frase che mi pareva di colpo bellissima. Allora la sottolineavo e cercavo di impararla a memoria. Forse era per questo che si leggevano i libri? Perché contengono delle frasi memorabili?
