Bubblegum hadn’t snapped out of it until he heard the sound of glass breaking by how loud his mother was. This made his eyes widen at the realization that things have just gotten out of hand. Even if he was still angry this wasn’t like him. Especially towards his own parent.
“ Ma. I- calm down! It’s just something I don’t want to do! Please! I’m not a fighter ma even if I have to use it to defend myself. I know you care! I know your looking out for me! I just- you wouldn’t understand!”
He was repeating himself at this point. But what else was there to say? To convince his poor mother that he was okay even without the proper training and going off all by himself? Though right now he felt like if he said anything furthermore it would only anger his mother more.

Year 2+: this is my muse, they’re best friends with Satan, they live on the moon in a sick ass mansion, have a pet turducken and got into a knife fight with karkat Vantas at 3 am behind a Denny’s. They’re dating now.

The noise of the hands slamming was enough to make him jump slightly. Not in surprise but more out of fear for how scary his mom could get. Especially if she wasn’t in the mood to argue. For a moment there was dead silence. As if he couldn’t think of what else to say to back himself up.
“WELL-! Why do you have to make this so hard mom?! I understand the consequences that could happen if I were to ever end up in the wrong hands. I’m not stupid! I KNOW what I’m getting myself in to every time I go out! Don’t you trust your own son? Someone who goes out almost everyday and returns safe and sound? I know you can’t trust everyone that you meet but for goodness sakes mom I know what’s best!”
Despite the lack of confidence in his tone he was between shouting at this point as well. Throwing himself off the wall and going into a stance as if he was just screaming his head off.
“I know what’s best for myself! Why can’t you just lay off about this kind of stuff? I’ve told you thousands and thousands of times that I can take care of myself and you just don’t seem to listen to a word I’m saying! For once. Just once! Can’t you just trust my word?”
the silence gave the baroness time to take a breath, to try and calm down from the frustration that continued to build up and sit in her chest. her eyes flickered toward the door as -- something drew her attention. the fighter experience in her knew better than to look away, however frustration raged back upward at her son’s exclamation.
❝ i’m not the one making this hard ! bubblegum, what i’m asking is not IMPOSSIBLE, but you are being so stubborn in your own belief that i’m somehow lying or making up this danger, that you don’t at least take SOMETHING. ANYTHING to defend yourself ! it’s not that i don’t trust you, it’s that i don’t trust the people that are after both your and my HEAD. ❞

It was a big deal going up against the ruler of Sugarland. Especially is she was your mother. But Bubblegum didn’t seem to realize the possible consequences that his mother could make happen just by simply going against her behalf.

The prince could of sworn he’s had this conversations thousands of times. Each one ending up the same as the last where he was sent off to bed after a stern talk about running off without the others permission. So this time was no different when he got home only to expect his mother already waiting for him.
“ Mom. I know you worry about me a lot but why can’t you understand that I’m perfectly fine with how things are going? I don’t need a guard. I’m avoiding any unnecessary conflict and I’m avoiding from venturing into any of the kingdoms land! Why can’t you just trust me for once?”
Bubblegum had sounded annoyed when explaining this. Crossing his arms back as if he was just like a pouting child. He couldn’t count how many times he’s had to explain this. And eventually he’s said it too much where to this point it was just too tiring to explain again.
“I’m old enough to know what I’m doing. I KNOW what I’m doing! Can’t you just. Say- I don’t know. Ease up?”
frustration bubbled up in her as she grasped the edge of her nose again, her own annoyance flickering up. she, too, was tired of trying to explain to him how dangerous the world was right now.
