Whether it’s the inability to come up with a comment to discharge the awkward tension or just being merciful with saying nothing, the young villain only smiles when he hears Ochako laugh.
“Yeah,” he offers, just to show he’s listening.
Fortunately, everything seems to smooth up on its own, and the tour begins without any other weird hiccups. Talking about the school, something the other must know much better than conversing with an enemy, and thus feel more comfortable with, brings them on track again, and Izuku looks just as much grateful for this.
“The classrooms, please,” he exhales. But then, the program is brought up again— though in a different way, and he purses his lips for a moment before delivering an answer. “I… not really, no,” he shakes his head at the notion he would sign up for it himself. Villains and willful rehabilitation… that’s something more out of a comic book than real life. “You could say I slipped up and now I’m here.” Not very informative, he knows, but how much can he say? Nobody’s really given him any pointers or specific rules to follow.
“It doesn’t seem that bad though. This place, I mean.”
So he was forced into the programme. Pretty much, anyway. Does that mean that he doesn’t regret his actions as a villain at all? ...That thought makes Ochako uneasy, though she admittedly realizes that she doesn’t actually know what kind of things Izuku’s actually done.
In general, Izuku is just... not what she expected from a villain at all. He acts so friendly, but maybe that’s just because he has to act that way or he’ll get in trouble? That seems pretty likely - so then, why does Ochako feel so guilty for doubting him?
...Either way, she started this tour, so she can’t give up now. For a moment, she almost finds herself asking about Izuku’s actions as a villain, but she can’t bring herself to ask. Wouldn’t that be, like super awkward, anyway?
“Ahhh, yeah! It’s great!” Ochako replies, grateful for the chance to change the topic. “It’s hard work, and they don’t go easy on us, but all the teachers are really good!” she wouldn’t say they’re nice - thinking of Aizawa, there - but even he’s a teacher she really likes, too. “I’ve learned a lot since coming here.”
