while most of those who aspire to be heroes go to extreme lengths to protect their most vital areas, unfortunately, there is not much kyouka can do to protect her own. her earphone jacks are an extension of her. literally.
a few members of their class with provisional licenses had been dispatched to a location to assist endeavor and his agency with a current situation. endeavor had been fighting off a villain that had a quirk similar to bakugou’s -- except this guy’s explosions were a lot louder. not knowing this before she was dispatched, jirou instantly regretted coming. but, it was her duty to help, wasn’t it?
blast after blast went off and while jirou did what she could to aid endeavor and his team into telling them the villain’s whereabouts and movements by plugging into the building in question, but her earphone jacks were .. throbbing. before she could even tell the villain’s trajectory, he’d found a way behind her line of sight.. and then, blew up the building directly behind her-- and like that, all kyouka heard was w h i t e n o i s e.
she’d fallen to the ground, and skidded across the pavement from the force of the blow, but didn’t even know it’d happened because it happened so quickly. debris fell from the sky around her and if there was a second blast from endeavor, his sidekicks, or anyone in her class, she didn’t even know. everything hurt, and she was sure that her arm was pretty messed up, but more importantly-- she couldn’t, hear. everyone around her was shouting and gesturing at her to move, and there mouths were moving, but.. no sounds were coming out.
the dazed and fearful look on her face as she tried to stand maybe said it all. the ends of her jacks were laced with blood. they’d been embedded into the ground with the building when it blew. the force of the impact is what shredded them and once kyouka realized it by looking at them, her adrenaline wore off, her hand began to shake, and kyouka-- screamed.
she didn’t know when bakugou came to her side or when she’d been hurried away from the battlefield. all she could see were her bloodstained hands and his lips moving-- but she couldn’t read them, her dark eyes were covered in too much soot, ash, and tears. but the one thing she could feel were his hands, and despite the tight grip they had on her, there was a softness within them that steadied her heart inside in her chest.
raspy, a free hand reaches out to grip his forearm as she shakes her head, feeling tears stream down her dirty cheeks. kyouka could be cutting him off, but she didn’t care. “ b-- bakugou! i.. c-can’t hear! ”a high pitched ringing sears through her jacks: it sounds like that crackling noise when you try to plug in an amp. out of the corner of her eye, kyouka thinks she sees the lights of a police car. god, does the sound hur -- but at least she heard it. before the pain gets any worse, kyouka claps her hands against her ears and cried out again in pain. “ my-- jacks! ” his lips move, but it just sounds like she’s underwater. then there’s that piercing crackling again and kyouka shuts her eyes tightly, trying not to cry out again. “ i.. i need to get out of here! pl-ease! ”
