That's literally it. my favorite word is "Tangentially" List is here https://rentry.co/favorite_word_list
If there's someone you want me to ask the favorite word of feel free to send me an ask about it.
I've noticed a couple of gimmick blogs who've also been asking about different favorite things, so I thought I might as well make a quick guide for anyone else interested in making one!
@favorite-letter-fella keeps a very helpful master list of gimmick blogs over here so you don't have to worry about stepping on someone else's toes when coming up with a gimmick!
okay all other juicy stuff Is under the cut since this will probably be my pinned post for a while
You don't have to stick to asking favorites obviously, but I would still recommend asking things that have very open ended questions. Like asking people "What's the opposite of milk?", that's got infinite different answers with no clear "correct" one.
I'd recommend making a whole new account just for the gimmick blog. Asks only come from the "Main" blog, so you can't send asks from the side blog you make. You can send asks anonymously and tag the side blog in the ask, but this does kind of kneecap asking.
Also if your starting a new favorite-thing-blog you should totally ask everyone on the master list for their favorites thing as well. It's like cross-promotion but cooler since we're not massive companies.
Account Maintenance
Set up a queue
You might think to just reblog right when people answer, but after like a day you realize people are really slow to answer and it's really annoying! Having a queue for everyone who responds is also great for making sure you don't burn out. I recommend having the queue start at 3-5 reblogs a day, and then maybe increase the amount as you build up the queue. As a rule for myself I always make sure that the queue will last at least a week without input so I never feel stressed about it.
Xkit is REALLY useful! (and basically mandatory)
Xkit rewritten is an extension for firefox and chrome that adds a lot of free features to tumblr that just make the experience way better. More importantly for the gimmick blog is Quick Reblog. It lets you quickly queue posts with the correct tag in one click which saves so much time for this type of account. It is also great for making sure you don't accidentally queue the same post twice!
Asking people!
Mostly self explanatory, but there's a couple of things about the tumblr back end that you might not know. You can only send out 10 asks an hour, or 5 asks if your asking anonymously.
The best way to find lots of people to ask at once is through the "Other Reblogs" in the notes of a popular post. To be more specific, some good types of posts are ask game posts like this, or posts about once a year things like anniversaries, holidays, etc.
Also, don't feel anxious about asking random people! As you can tell from this blog, lots of people apparently love answering random questions. If they don't want to participate they'll just not answer, so might as well ask y'know?
If you have any questions feel free to ask in the replies and I'd be happy to answer em!
That's a tough one... I think my favorite word is "puzzle" !!! I've loved puzzles so so much throughout my life!! Puzzle games, mysteries, jigsaw puzzles, math, optical illusions, riddles, escape rooms... it's also just a fun word to say :-)
Hmm. When I was younger, I decided my favorite word was syzygy. But I checked the list and I noticed that it's a lot of people's favorite word. How curious, I wonder why?
Honestly, though, there are too many good words, and as a wordsmith, my favorite word is whichever one comes next.
I have a couple runner ups that I have to bring up because this is my only opportunity. For example, lowkirkenuinely or any variation of it. I love how that’s his legacy now. The extra emphasis it gives that genuinely and lowkey don’t is perfect.
Myopic Manatee is technically two words but it’s up there for me
And the best word of all time, and my overall real favorite: Mojo.
Mojo jojo
Auston Powers’s mojo
Ken’s mojo dojo casa house
So much diversity. So perfect. So fun. So flashy. If Auston Powers uses it, it’s in my vocabulary.
