A soft chuckle left Leo’s lips as Peter spoke, a shrug soon following. He had a point. Leonardo didn’t let Peter say that twice as he sprinted to the port as fast as possible. Of course, he didn’t win. How could he win from a merman? But it was fun to try. The pirate had a massive grin on his face as he reached the port where Peter was waiting on him. Leo knew exactly what his friend meant with ‘you owe me,’ and he would’ve happily given the merman a kiss if he wasn’t currently a little out of breath, but before he could say or do anything, Peter spoke again. His facial expression quickly turned into a defeated one, but it didn’t take long as he faked a smile when Peter turned his head back to face him. It was too hypocritical to ask for a kiss anyway. He told his friend a few times that they weren’t a thing, and he shouldn’t expect to continue being all kissy after those words. Didn’t make it less painful, but it was all his own fault for not owning up to his feelings or do anything with it. “Hi,” The pirate said softly before sitting down next to the merman. “It definitely had been a while. How’s… life?” The boy asked awkwardly before scratching the back of his neck, a thing he did whenever he got nervous.

peter was a naive fool with almost everyone he met apparently. when he’d stop being this way, he didn’t know. maybe what people told him was true, he just didn’t love himself enough for people to love him. he wasn’t unlovable, he knew that much but was he lovable? it was frustrating to be in this exact position all of the damn time, so he just sighed and looked at leo when he sat near him. leo, his sweet pirate that smelled like sunshine and open waters. leo, who  was always fun and games. so much fun, so many nights of looking at the stars and smelling the flowers. oh how peter loved gazing into his eyes, or having leo’s hand in his hair. it wasn’t love, it never really could be, but it was beautiful until it was nothing. ‘it’s... okay. all over the place. i think i’m getting better at talking to people about what i’m feeling though. what about you? how are things?’

“the fae, really? are we not all wonderful and amazing?” ophelia asked, trying to goad him. she was sure there were plenty of fae that fell into the realm of horribleness, ones that abused their power or were just horrible people in general, but to hear that peter were wary of them all made her a bit sad. and slightly offended even if it was not directed at her. “well find me a sweet drink and i’ll lend you my ears. you’ve knocked over a rock and opened a path that I need to follow.”

‘uh, no. you are. loads are far from it.’ he gave her a tight smile, knowing how it must’ve sounded. it was the same way she was wary of other species, her was wary of hers. they both had their reasons, it wasn’t his place to say that his reason was explained and justified. ‘i’ll fetch a sweet drink, you find us a place to sit?’ he offered before ducking away towards the bar, coins clinking together in his hands as he discussed with the bartender what the sweetest tasting drink would be. after waiting for the concoction, he slid the money over and walked back to find ophelia with two drinks and a smile. ‘as every horror story starts, there was once a boy...’ 

peter took a dramatically deep breath, sipping at his drink but thinking it was a big thing for him to be talking about aiden in general. ‘a boy who was gorgeous and had big wings and he was everything this little merman wanted. this boy had the air when i had the water and yet we were both there, meeting on land. we met all the time, we’d fight. this boy loved to fight, he loved to beat me and show off about it, but i never minded. i was getting better, it was fun to be this way. then... things changed, we got older. one day i was a teenager and i kissed him, and by gods... he kissed back. but then he was aggressive and mean and he’d yell, he’d always hit my hand away when i reached out but after the kiss it hurt a lot. he hurt me so much, and i couldn’t handle it anymore. i was embarrassed, a stupid fish out of water who got his heart hurt by a bird. a fiery bird that couldn’t be tamed down, i was stupid. so stupid, he never wanted me. i still want him.’

Leo was sitting on the deck of the Star Eater, eating his food as he was enjoying the water view. It didn’t take him long to notice something in the water, he raised an eyebrow as he took a closer look. A groan soon followed when he saw Peter, “You really need to stop swimming at dangerous places,” Leo spoke softly before shaking his head, a small smile on his lips. “Let’s meet somewhere else?” @fckpeter

peter was careful in a very non-careful way. he knew which ships wouldn’t do him no harm and which to stay away from. the star eater was a good ship, still, not to be provoked but he was clearly swimming around to catch a glimpse of the other boy. he did, for a while he was undetected and he smiled, watching him eat when leo couldn’t even see him. a grimace formed on his face, eyes big and innocent when the other noticed him, ‘you really need to stop being a dangerous person. these waters were mine before they were yours,’ he retorted, trying to not let his voice sound too fond as he gestured to meet leo on the port. ‘race you!’ he called out with a laugh before swimming away as fast as he could, not long before he was pulling himself to land with legs and dry clothes. as usual, he pulled his damp hair into a bun and grinned widely at the other before scrunching his nose, ‘ha-ha. you know what you owe me.’ peter spoke without thinking, not considering the fact that asking for a kiss as his winning prize wasn’t a normal thing. they weren’t together anymore-- or apparently ever according to leonardo-- so what was that about? ‘or... uh, nevermind. force of habit.’ peter bit his lip, cursing under his breath and turned his head away from the other to hide his flushed cheeks. ‘i... um, been a while. thought i’d say hi. hi.’

“how is it not active? you have loads of stuff at your disposal i’d imagine. and you’re swimming but certainly you could dance? don’t understand that. there’s nothing wrong with liking being on land. funnily enough, i think i’d… rather be in your shoes. or is it fins?” he chuckled and shrugged. “i think the ocean’s quite pretty and… it is so far away from this place, too.” he cringed at the idea of being beheaded. it was definitely one of his worst fears. “don’t want that. well that’s a shame. already tainting my imagination. fuck off.” he laughed and sighed heavily, rolling his eyes. “vampires and werewolves have hated each other for ages. i think they can kill us? i don’t know if it’s true but i don’t care to find out. they also smell bad. so. okay, they only smell bad when it rains, you know? i’m not fond of them because i may, ah… be a bit afraid of them, and… i’m alive so clearly i’m doing something right by steering clear of them. that’s really it. but humans… i’m not afraid of them. i just hate them. seriously, i despise them more than werewolves. and i have my own reasons for that. and you know there’s the whole werewolves defending humans thing—of course werewolves annoy me. humans more so. besides, okay, every other species thinks we’re shit anyway so i don’t even feel bad.” zach could rant on and on if he wanted but even if they were his opinions, he was annoying himself. but zach was interested about the oceans. “i’m intrigued. what bad is there? what good? tell me stories.”

‘no, no, oh silly. i’m not actively involved in the community! i’m active enough. i don’t have any muscle and once a dolphin beat me up, but i’m not out of shape. rectangle is a shape. but i’d still dance with you.’ peter giggled at the other’s misunderstanding of the situation, shrugging at him because he didn’t know any better what it would be. ‘fins? okay, but... yes, and no. the ocean is gorgeous and vast. but so is earth. how much of the land have you seen? have you seen the floating islands of fae? the ruins? the sunflower fields? it’s the same thing as the ocean, no, i haven’t seen all of it but it’s not like i can just get up and swim off wherever i want to. it’s boring, our lives are the same. 

peter tilted his head as he listened to the other’s fears, opinions and everything. he loved that the other was rambling because he loved ramling himself. ‘mhm, maybe. maybe not. okay, maybe they smell bad when it rains. i can imagine, no one likes wet dog. humans? puny humans? oh my goodness, tell me why? or don’t, you don’t have to. but okay, not true. or maybe. i don’t think you’re shit at all! i’m merfolk, not a representative or anything, but i am. okay, hmm.’ peter twisted his lips to think and felt scared even thinking of saying anything bad about his queen, or his fellows. his family, he didn’t really care for them. ‘my family has some terrible traditions of having too many kids and not being to take care of them. so i’ve almost been a bygone, a forgotten thought. the good? the cool bits are the food. there’s just... something about it. nothing on land compares. our wine is better too, and we’re so hydrated. but on land i have dry skin. as if! i’m having to use seaweed and kelp just to keep my tail slimy. loses all of it’s goodness every time i turn. very annoying.’

‘well... i do want to help everyone.’ peter scrunched his nose before shaking his head and stopping in his path to stand behind her. ‘what if i crack your back? that ought to help, no?’

Serafina couldn’t help but beam from ear to ear when an undeniably excited young gentleman stopped by the front of her stall; enthusiasm from a customer made the entire reading that much better, and she was beyond pleased when he reassured her that he had no issue providing payment for the full service. She read tarot cards, palms, and tea leaves because she loved it, of course, but…extra money that she could use to add to her mama’s savings? That wasn’t something she could easily overlook. “You got it!” she chirped happily, all but bouncing on the balls of her feet as she went about preparing a fresh cup of tea. “We’ll start with the cards, and then your palms, and last but not least - tea leaves. By the end of it all, I promise you’ll feel much more…enlightened,” she said with a bright grin, and she used her free hand to gesture towards the stool where he could sit. “Have a seat, tell me your name, and…one fun fact about yourself! Anything at all, and I’ll do my best not to send you away with thoughts of imminent death. Oh, and I’m Serafina!”

peter adored how her excitement mimicked his and how his mimicked hers, the world was brighter due to people like this. she had a pretty smile too, a contagious and sweet one. he sat down where she’d pointed to and bounced in his seat as he waited for the girl to return and tell him all about his future, what joys and dismays it would contain. peter could’ve sat questioning if this were real, but belief made everything and at some point, believing in happiness did make you happy. ‘okay! enlightened! what a mystical word. oh okay, yes! my name is peter dunn, and uh...’ he scrunched his face, deep in thought about one fun fact. his thoughts seemed to escape at the very moment but he did manage to conjure one up after a solid few seconds of quick thinking, ‘i... like nights better than days, the moon makes me really happy. is that enough? or do you need a better one? it didn’t have to be unique, did it? because then i’d sound really lame thinking me liking nights is a unique fact. it isn’t, but it’s a fact, right?’

Alex wanted to tell the boy to mind his step and not be so fucking clumsy, but he bit his tongue. He didn’t shy away from confrontation–not in the slightest–but it was best for Alex to assess a situation before choosing how to handle it. Especially in lieu of the war raging upon them; there was no telling who was a spy for who, who was a nobleman’s son and who was a street rat.

He seemed out of sorts here, this stranger, and Alex couldn’t help but wonder where he came from. He certainly didn’t belong in the fisherman’s village, by the looks of it. He cocked his head at the smile administered to him by the other; was the boy quite alright in the head?

“Buy me a drink? You’re scolding me like a child when you can’t be, what? More than fifteen, at the most? Does your mother know you’re out by yourself?”

peter on the other hand, absolutely hated confrontation and would do just about anything to avoid it. he didn’t like fights, frankly he wasn’t even strong enough to beat anyone. so it was get beaten, or somehow talk his way out of it. he get his gaze steady at the man in front of him, trying to read him properly. when he couldn’t get a real read, he figured human. pirate, maybe.

humans were ambiguous, either they were loving or rebelling. peter adored the kind but something told him this wasn’t a friendship worth fighting for. peter scrunched his brows together and looked down at himself, wondering if he really did look that fucking young. did he?

‘excuse me? my mother? you’re not mature enough to deal with this on your own? you would not like my mother one bit, i’ll tell you that much. i’m twenty five, just so you’re aware. perfectly capable of fighting my own battles. though, i’d prefer to not have a battle at all.’
