While it was kind of funny to watch him struggle to try and write while still keeping her hand held, it was something that meant a lot more to her than it might be with someone else. After all, the majority of the people that Rain had really had in her life had all ended up leaving at some point or another, moving on because they found something better in life, or simply didn’t want to be associated anymore with the freak that was Rain Mars.
The words ‘I’m not letting go’ seemed to really get her. She was too sensitive, she had always thought.
She can feel the feeling of tears in her eyes, and she’s pretty quick to move so that he doesn’t have to see that. There was one thing about getting close to someone and holding their hands, but crying in front of them and looking like a complete idiot was something entirely different, and something that she didn’t quite want to get into after all of the good progress that had been made with the two of them.
So what does she do to hide her face? Well, she does the obvious thing, with how close the two of them were at that moment: She hides it in his arm. A gentle thing, resting against him in a way that she just hadn’t been able to with someone else, and it was a nice feeling. All of him just seemed to be so comforting and warm, and it really only made her feel happier that this had all managed to somehow fall into place.
He almost forgot what it felt like to be afraid while in that moment with Rain. Everything was okay and there was no anxieties or worries that something might happen because she knew what made him different and it made her different, too. Their differences were what they had in common and Mikah still couldn’t bring himself to wrap his mind around the concept. The idea that someone deals with the same struggles, faces the same loneliness that he does.
So feeling her hide her face into his arm, he lets out a small gasp and looks down at her, only seeing hair. The hand that had been writing stops completely and he’s just looking at hair as if it were her face, his heart full and warm and his skin not feeling like she had pressed an ice pack to it and the fear of burning someone nonexistent. The powers haven’t existed prominently within him that long, but it’s felt long enough with the four -- almost five years that he’s been without a family.
“You’re thanking me?” His voice raises a bit in surprise, the free hand now moving to push a piece of hair behind her ear. He can’t see her face, but he doesn’t need to. Mikah is entirely satisfied with everything at this moment. His mistakes and horrors had lead to a tiny moment that, insignificant to others, was a great thing for the two of them. A small chuckle escapes lips as he presses his cheek to the top of her head. They’re sitting up and damn near intertwined at this point instead of the homework that has been since forgotten (again).
Maybe it’s the comfort or simply who he is, but he can’t help but ramble out to her, “I’ve -- seen and done some things since I’ve known about who I am. Life’s kind of felt like crap and scary. Really scary. I think you know the kind of fear I’m talking about. Like... like you’re going to be alone, like everyone won’t stay, or... or they’ll move on because I’m weird or not enough. But. I’m not scared right now.”
