Desmond was currently out, perhaps dealing with his latest fledgling, but he’d assured Maria he didn’t mind her waiting till he returned and they’d known one another too long for it to seem odd in any regard to be in one another’s space. So, she’d made herself at home, finding a half-drunk bottle of red wine and poured herself a glass. She was seated at the table, smoking a cigarette (set in a small golden-coloured holder) and reading one of his books on Chopin, she’d adored seeing him perform so many years ago, when someone entered and she looked up expecting Desmond only for Dora to walk through instead.
“Dora,” she greeted her with a smile despite knowing how the other felt about her. “What a surprise, I didn’t know you’d coming over. You’re looking lovely as always.”
