lying in the cool shade provided by the trees of the park, sierra was all but focused on her surroundings. the heat of the sun, on this particular day, was exhausting in and of itself; fur uncomfortably heavy as she rest, side pressed against bark as she worked to keep herself cool —— the energy required to roam proving too much, too tiring for the shepherd. not that she was complaining, really, she needed the break, but when it came to survival, one little nap in the open was much more dangerous than some would expect. so, even when she felt weighed down like a stone, warmth obnoxious and terrible, there was still a need to move, to go somewhere else. unfortunately, she really wasn’t up for that.
only when the soft noise of shoes stepping through grass sounded did she snap from her thoughts: head lifting half-heartedly to blankly acknowledging the man approaching, a sense of anxiety instantly coiling in her gut. even if she recognized him, from some distant memory, it was doubted that that would soothe her, even a little —— the smell of dogs and powder and something familiar that she couldn’t quite name all radiating from him, a confusing combination of things that left her nervous. but, she remained silent, fur bristling ever so slightly as he drew near.
