"Lazy to a fault," had been the words last spoken to him and he couldn't discredit them nor the instructor that had deemed him as such. He was, by nearly all means, a sloth. In what areas he did not slack in, they were clearly beneath the scope of academia, particularly in the institute.
It hadn't bothered him much, however. Funny was more like it. Whenever a new instructor came around or he reached their class, Jay had to force himself not to laugh— which he gave into anyway. Why restrain himself for their benefit? Clearly, when they criticized him, they didn't extend the same courtesy. So much for professionalism in the face of rebellion and they honestly wondered why it was outrageously entertaining.
So, when he did make an effort to stroll in the mere vicinity of the danger room, it was for his own amusement as was any interaction he had. Empty— or, at least, he expected that hallway to be at this time. Who in their right mind would go near the training arena given the obstacles they had experienced recently (again, not that he had done much during that time) and test their limits— other than Jay, that is.
Because, essentially, everything to him was about exceeding limits. Pushing boundaries. Invading territory he was not meant to tread on. A challenge. That was what he wanted for once. A childish game, perhaps, with his intentions, but training is training nonetheless. Oh, if that damned teacher could see him now and as that thought crossed his mind, he vaguely distinguished a scream in the midst of the utter chaos he placed himself into.
Wasn't that a bit too realistic?
"Don't tell me some idiot set the room to damsel in distress kind of mission before I—" The next scene had transpired too quickly for his liking as he dashed toward the figure at the far right of the fabricated environment, eyes narrowing in the direction of shrapnel hurling at who he now presumed to be a young— and new, if she was just walking into the danger room without warning— student.
Drawing upon the energy of another explosion nearby, the heat almost enveloping him before he had been able to contain it and cast all incoming pellets away. Jay drew the female into his arms when he could manage, his limb tensing around her shoulders as he pressed her firmly to his torso. At least, that way, he could monitor her location as the simulation played out and the only words that slipped out was the most coherent thought he could weave together while considering what the hell compelled her to follow him. "Are you crazy?"
An introduction could come later. Hopefully.
