“What?” Addy giggled softly and shook her head a little. “No! I was raised by my parents back in Idris. I just… never really had the need to send one,” she shrugged lightly. “I’m Adelaide, by the way. Nice to meet you,” she beamed.
“Those who live in Idris also don’t have the need to learn how to fight demons yet they do.” He pointed out stiffly. Alec’s gaze dropped and rose to scope her out. She looked...weak. “Alec. Alec Lightwood.”

Beau had arrived in Alec’s office as soon as he’d gotten the summons He knew it would be coming. Deserved it. He waited for Alec as the perfect picture of a Shadowhunter. Shoulders back, feet apart, arms crossed behind his back. He’d take this brow beating but he didn’t come here to apologize either. He’d embarrassed him but he wouldn’t apologize. “Alec.” He kept his gaze steady and fixed on Alec. “I warned you it would happen. Which is more than anyone else before you has ever gotten.” He followed Alec with his eyes. “Ask and you’ll find I’m not lying.”
“You also told me I would get a heads up.” Alec said, matching Beau’s gaze. “What happened?” He crossed his arms over his chest and stared.

“Her and Ravenscar? Didn’t even the two of them were related in anyway. But you’re right, I haven’t seen either of them for days.” He shrugged. “Can’t say I’ll miss either of them to be completely honest. Can I help you though?
Alec wasn’t going to divulge all of Beau’s connections to his parabatai because first off, it wasn’t need to know information and secondly, Alec knew Beau’s trust was a once in a lifetime thing. “Is that a genuine offer because I do need help filling a position...” He said, giving his brother an out.

“I’m sorrry!” Addy called out, rushing to him. “It’s my first time sending one… I… I was just practicing,” she mumbled, smiling apologetically.

“Your first time sending what?” Alec asked incredulously. He moved his head around until he’d caught the girl’s gaze. “That was your first time sending a fire message?” The Shadowhunter repeated. “Did you just Ascend or something? Were you raised by rabbits?”
“Beau.” Alec looked up from his desk. He’d called the Shadowhunter in for a meeting once he had returned from his mysterious and unsanctioned disappearance. “I thought we agreed that you would warn me before leaving your position in this Institute.” Alec had not been pleased when he was addressed by a gaggle of young Shadowhunters in training that their trainer had not arrived. He was even more displeased when he couldn’t find Beau. He felt a fool for having placed blind trust in the man.

“It was a figure of speech, sir.” Thorin narrowed his eyes at him. “Beaufort Ravenscar, the traitor’s kid, brought a mundane, Thomas Whitmane, into the Institute. Apparently told him all about how we work and then released him back into the mundane world and now the mundie is going around bragging about it.”
“At least you draw the line somewhere.” He said flatly. Alexander was still having a difficult time at reading and gauging Thorin. “I will handle this. Consider this dealt with. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.”

“Respect to me, the Head of the Institute?” Alec’s brows rose. He knew Jace only pulled the formal address card when he was pissed or insulted. “I’ll talk to her...if I can manage to find her. Word through the grapevine was that her and Beau got into it or something? I don’t know. All I know is that I’m short a trainer and can’t find my event coordinator.”

“She insulted you. Me. Our family. With a smile on our face. Had the gall to call me a traitor.”
“Elisabete Rosewane?” He squinted. “Are you sure we’re even talking about the same girl? She’s shown nothing but respect since she moved in.”

“The moron told me. Like he thought it would impress me that one of our own was breaking rules.” Thorin scowled, not the least bit impressed.
“You’re being awfully vague for someone who wants to take a mundane out back.” Alec crossed his arms and stared at Thorin. “Tell me everything you know.”

“Well you weren’t paying attention to me and now you are, I say my plan worked.” Alice commented as she continued to trail after the other, her short legs seeming to be running after the others long strides.
Alec could obviously tell he was walking far too fast for the other but didn’t stop or still his stride in the least. After reading the first word, he stopped. “So should I even bother reading this when you can just tell me what the issue is?”
“Jeez, watch your fire messages, yeah?” Alec caught it midair. “And why even send one. We’re literally three feet apart.” He rolled his eyes and began to read it.

“Not to cause concern but it’s come to my attention your Weapons Trainer has apparently told some mundane about the Shadow World. Even gone so far as to bring him into the Institute. The mundane is proving…difficult to draw information from but I’m sure a little…back alley visit won’t scare more details out of him if necessary.”
“And how has this come to your attention exactly?” Alec had trouble trusting Thorin as they’d never been able to get off on the same foot. Ever. It wasn’t that he thought the other Shadowhunter was lying, it was just that he’d hoped news of this would have come to him sooner. Before the need for back alley visits.

“No. Everything is not okay.” Jace sat on Alec’s desk, mostly heedless of what exactly was underneath him. It didn’t look important. “That Rosewane girl. I want her gone.”
“Did she hurt your feelings?” Alec asked before muffling a snort. “What did she do?”

Magnus listened to Alec carefully. He listened to every word and tried to process them calmly, even though his heart beat faster and his eyes went wide. All those Downworlders… dead. For a moment, he couldn’t react. He wanted to comfort his boyfriend, but he couldn’t find it in him to be strong enough to set aside the fact that so many Downworlders were gone.
Dropping his hand to Alec’s arm, he squeezed it lightly, a gesture that both tried to comfort him and ask for comfort.
“I’m so sorry.” Alec frowned, shaking his head. “I-” he stopped with a sigh. Alexander wasn’t about to make this about him even though he felt, down to his very soul, that he could have done something more to stop this. Every ounce of shed blood, Alec felt weighed on his shoulders.

As soon as they were in the loft, he wrapped his arms around Alec and pulled him close. He only pulled back from the hug a long moment later, moving his hands to cup Alec’s cheeks. Magnus’ brown eyes scanned the man’s body for injuries, his magic a gentle warmth against his skin as he made sure once again that his boyfriend was okay. Letting out a sigh of relief once he was satisfied, Magnus placed a gentle kiss to his lips.
“What happened in there?” He whispered, now looking up at him.
Alec closed his eyes when Magnus held his cheek. He could feel the familiar glow of magic against his skin, the glow that meant he was finally home.
“It was Jace. All this time Valentine had been saying how Jace had demon blood in him. How Jace touching the Soul Sword would destroy it.” Alec opened his eyes and shook his head. “He has angel blood in him. Just like Clary. He didn’t destroy it. He activated it. Every...every Downworlder in the Institute is dead, Magnus. Hundreds...they’re just gone.” Alec couldn’t help but feel to blame for each and every head.

“Yes,” he nodded and squeezed Alec’s hand. “Alexander, I don’t run out of magic like that,” Magnus chuckled lightly. “I’ll be alright. Come on,” Magnus led him back to the alleyway he had used for his previous portal and let go of Alec’s hand. With a flourish of his hands, blue sparks shot from his fingers and the portal to his loft was created. He took Alec’s hand again and smiled before stepping in.
“I just don’t want you to overwork yourself.” Alec stressed. He didn’t understand the first thing about a Warlock’s magic. He’d only been taught that they were threats to their society and had to be severely watched over. The teaching of Shadowhunters was grossly biased and riddled with fear.
Stepping into Magnus’ loft, he let out a sigh of relief. They were safe. Alec trusted Magnus’ wards immensely.

Jace didn’t even bother before brushing his way into Alec’s office. Being parabatai had its perks and he was at least ninety-five percent sure he wouldn’t walk in on him and Magnus rutting on the desk. “Alec we need to talk.” Was he being childish? Probably. Did he care? Not really.
“Is everything okay?” Alec closed the balcony doors behind him and finished off the last of his coffee. “What’s up?”
