We are currently trying to raise $850 by August 15 in order to cover the costs of (1) ADA compliant captioning for our film ($350) and (2) the contracting of ASL interpreters to attend one screening of our production to hold a “Deaf Night” ($250/interpreter, two interpreters necessary). By donating any amount to us between now and August 15, you will be considered a 2016 Accessibility Angel and your name will be displayed on the Fearless Minds Theatrical website and at all public Fearless Minds Theatrical events for all eternity on our special Accessibility Angel display. World Premiere Screening announced!

The world premiere of Rewriting Love will take place on Friday August 19 at 7pm at the Pink Flamingo Theater in Seaside, CA (on Fremont Street). Following the premiere will be a discussion with the filmmakers. Additional screenings will be held on August 20 at 5PM and 7PM and August 21 at 3PM and 5PM. Tickets will be sold on a sliding scale. A limited number of free tickets are available to those in need. Please contact us for more information. Closed Captions will be available upon request at any of the screenings. Meet our latest collaborators Edith, Richard, and David! Edith is a wonderful rainbow speaker that educates and spreads awareness of the LGBT community throughout Monterey County. David and Richard are a happy couple that enjoy traveling and the outdoors. We're thrilled to capture this family's story and include it in our film.

We're especially proud to introduce this awesome couple, Emma and Kathy. They've been married over a decade and they still have each others backs. Over the past few years, Emma has blossomed into a gorgeous and humorous woman, and Kathy has given her so much incredible support. We're honored that they dared to share their touching story with us, and we hope we can soon share it with the rest of the world. How you can help:

In order to make this documentary a success, we are working to raise another $512.55 to meet our total goal of $1400. This amount will cover expenses that the grant doesn’t, such as food for collaborators during filming sessions, rental of a newer computer with professional editing software, additional travel costs for driving to film locations, film festival entry fees, and any other costs incurred in making the best documentary that we can. Depending on your donation amount, you could receive cool swag or an associate producing credit for the film!

Here are some great pictures from our rehearsal last night! Don’t let the actors’ serious expressions fool you--they were having a great time, and the play is a comedy! Thank you to the Carmel Youth Center for offering us a room in their facility for our rehearsals.

If you are a man who is consistently rude to waitresses, and you go to see a play in which a man is rude to waitresses, you will think that nothing is happening. You will think that the play has no action, and no story. But if you are the waitress, watching the same play, you will have the transformative experience of finally seeing your life represented on stage. The problem is that the person in the theater’s literary office has to be able to imagine the waitress’s life in order to understand that the play expands our experience of being alive. If they have never been a waitress, then an important audience will be denied this participation. Without sitting down and speaking with the playwright in person, in an interactive way, the person who works for the theater will never have the chance to gain this insight. And the narrow range of permitted representations continues on forever.

This goes for more than "just" peoples'  occupations (not to say that occupations are not an important part of peoples' lives). This goes for peoples' experiences as disabled, as queer, as a person of color, etc. Fearless Minds Theatrical strives to rise to this challenge with every production--to expand the "narrow range of permitted representations" to include those who are so often silenced because theatre professionals choosing a season read a play or witness an experience and think it lacks action and story. This summer, Fearless Minds will champion the voices of people who suffer from mental illness in the new play Conquering Madness. Join us August 2015!
