“hey! it’s nice to meet you!”
asks are OPEN!
An oddly placed computer flickers in the distance
The screen turns on.
@st4rryhq
she approaches cautiously. ve’s had her fair share of run-ins with odd devices, being careful was the only REAL way of approaching them.
As the screen powers on a small little girl with a purple out line appears on screen
" Hi, Hello, greetings!1! How may I assist you?"
She pauses for a moment, scanning your face
" Vanity"
She appears shocked for a moment, wings fanning out. That is before she takes a step closer. Curious as ever.
“What in the world are you?”
"Why me? I'm your virtual assistant!!"
She pauses her speaking to think for a bit
"You did boot me up....right?"
“no, i, uhm. i didn’t touch anything. not on purpose at least. do you have a name?”
she tucks her wings close, timidly.
"Oh.... I see..... my names st4rry"
She turns away from you all sad and pops out a pair of digtal wings that barely connect to back. It seems as if she's trying to imitate what you have just done
“hey, hey, no, look back here. it’s nice to meet you, st4rry. what do you mean you’re my digital assistant?”
she holds out her hand to the other, trying to see what she is exactly.
The girls stares through the computer screen in confusion for a moment
"I wish I could grab your hand" :(
“hm. would you like for me to try something?”
she smiles, a warm thing, running her hand along the screen.

Woahhhhh, you're an angel? Are you an angel? Or do you share traits with an angel? God, I have so many questions
“woah! hey there! and, uh, i’d say so? i mean, not in the whole ‘i’m dead’ sense, just in like. the species sense? if you get what i mean? but i definitely share traits with ‘em!”
I haven't heard from you in awhile
AND THIS ONE! my apologies ive been Really offline as of late</3
Hello there!!
heya! :) fairly certain this is aimed at mod over the character so. bam. mod response
theres the soft rustle of feathers coming from somewhere. it almost sounds like a bird stuck in the branches of a tree. the following “come the FUCK on!” clarifies that, no, this is not a bird.
— @feathersandfears (hi hi my sona. take uhhh. yeah. for either arthur or john idm)
John and Arthur looked at each other in a bit of concern as then aproached the tree, "is someone stuck in the tree? Do you need help?"
"Anytime. You're under my roof, I want you to be happy while you're here." Arthur smiled and let her have room back to stretch her wings.
she continues to beam at him, stretching her wings before tucking them away again. “well, ah, slight breakdown aside, didn’t we plan on gettin’ me clothes?”
"Jesus, you're right! We need to go before the stores close!" He turned around and grabbed his coat and John's arm to walk out the door.
“oh, wow! is it really that late in the day—?” she chuckles as she pulls herself up from the table, tucking all of her odd features away. she doesn’t fall too far behind.
"Yes! I wasn't paying attention but they close soon and I want to make sure you try something before we get it."
she’s laughing in full now. “can’t blame ya for losing track of time! it should be fine though, we could always go tomorrow if they’re closed!”
Arthur smiled, "no we'll make it! Just need to put a little pep in our step!"
she tangles her hand in the back of arthur’s coat, clinging on for dear life. “there’s only so much pep my legs can handle!”
Arthur laughed as he slowed down a bit, "right right, I forget you're a bit smaller than me!" He took her hand, "we will make it when we make it and if we don't then we come back tomorrow."
she laughs back, squeezing his hand. “sounds like a better plan than ‘run like our lives depend on it.’” it’s clear she means it jokingly. she’s grateful for the slow pace, though.
"Truthfully, I've only ever been running but you knew that." He shoots her the smiled of a man who was exhausted by life.
“well, you don’t need to now. especially in this case. i can always just pop back home and grab some more clothes if need be!” she just now thought of that.
"Yeah? That's easy for you huh? I wish I could do that..." He remarked as he drifted off in thought
“OH! i didn’t even think of it! if, if i hold onto both of you, i can just teleport us there! jesus, i’m an idiot..” and she just now thought of this, too.
Arthur looked at her in utter shock but I suppose it shouldn't be a surprise considering her time jumping. "O-oh okay..."
“i don’t usually ‘cause, well, if it isn’t obvious i’m always a bit off target, but we can try!”
Arthur looked nervous but took a deep breath before grabbing John. "Alright, let's try." He squeezed his eyes shut, filling intending to fall down some hole again.
“just— focus real hard on where we’re goin’, alright? it makes this part work a bit better.” she did the same! it didn’t take all that long for all three of them to appear elsewhere. they are falling, though.
vanity lands in a tree. again.
Arthur yelps as they start falling as John attempts to catch him as he falls, landing directly on his ass. "Are you alright?" John looked him over concerned before turning to Vanity in the tree, "what about you? Are you okay?"
she wriggles about before falling out of the tree. she lands face down in the dirt. “i’m fine. my pride is damaged, but i’m not physically hurt.” she doesn’t move from where she’s sprawled out.
John gently sits Arthur on the ground before making his way to pick up Vanity completely in his arms, "are you sure you aren't hurt? That looked pretty painful."
she shakes her head slowly, brushing dirt off of herself. “yeah, no, i’m fine! honestly, i’m more durable than i seem.”
John sat Vanity down on her feet and let her dust herself off, "as long as you're okay, that's all that's important."
she smiles again. “right! so, did we make it? i know we are a little off, but are we close enough?”
Arthur looked around, "hm...oh! Yes! The store is right on this corner so you were very close!" He started making his way to the store as John walked with Vanity close behind."
“let’s go! better than nothing!” she trails behind, that same pep in her step. she’s practically skipping.
Once they walked through the door, Arthur spotted a few things he actually liked for once. "Alright, pick out what you think you'll wear and try it on. I won't buy it unless I know it fits, got it?"
“got it! i think i can find a few things.” with that, she skips her way around the store, collecting a few items. eventually, she calls them over, studying a particular item. it’s a simple frilly, red dress, but it contrasts with the button-ups and pants she had currently picked out.
“doooo.. you think i should try this too?”
Arthur looked it over, "I mean it's stunning but are you comfortable in dresses?"
“it depends. but this one? most likely. it isn’t— revealing or anything.” she continued to mull it over, taking it off the rack and holding it to herself.
"hm..." Arthur pulled the dress at its side to her waist to see if it would fit. "Well it seems like it would fit. Want to try it on?"
slowly, she nods. “yeah, i think i do. it looks nice and i’ll probably need it for something eventually.”
"We could also maybe do a special dinner, how about that? Good enough excuse I think." It was clear Arthur was attempting to spoil her.
“oh! well, i mean, we don’t have to. i do want this regardless, though.” she tucks the dress in with the rest of the clothes she’d picked out. “i think this is plenty. the dressing room is—?”
Arthur looked around before pointing in a general direction. "Over there I believe, let's go."
He pushed her along, excited to see what she picked out.
she lets herself be pushed, giggles bubbling out of her freely. “okay, okay! m’ going, mr. lester, give me some time.” it’s clear she doesn’t actually mind.
she shuffles herself into the dressing room hurriedly. she tries on everything, but, in the end, she only shows off a few. considering that her selection was mostly button-ups and flannels, she didn’t want it getting too repetitive. until, she comes out wearing the dress. it fits well and she gives a slight twirl to showcase that.
“all good? doesn’t fit weird?”
Arthur enjoyed watching all the outfit choices as he sat with John outside the dressing room but as Vanity left the room for the last dress he sat up to get a better look, "that looks amazing, Vanity. It looks like it fits you perfectly."
John nodded, "I agree, it's quite a good color on you."
she beams at them. “thank you! we can get this then. there were only a few things that didn’t fit properly so we can run and put those back once i’m out of this!” she turns into the dressing room to put her clothes back on. and when she exits, she hands arthur the ones they will be buying.
“i can go put these back pretty quick. thank you, again, mr. lester.”
Arthur smiled, "you can call me Arthur, Vanity, it's alright." He took the clothes and began walking to the register to pay, "I'll meet you.at the door, alright?"
he gets the feeling she won’t be doing that very often in spite of him being completely okay with it. she nods as he goes. “i’ll be right there!”
and she was. turns out it was pretty easy to memorize where she had grabbed everything from. “okay! all ready to go?”
Arthur looked astonished as she walked up, "Jesus that was fast." He handed the cashier his money before getting his items and change and making his way out of the department store.
“we weren’t here all that long.” she chuckles. and then she trails behind them just as she had on the way in. they could walk back the normal way now. “all of this is really too sweet of you. like, everything about this is a little much.”
"Well..." Arthur hates to admit that having Vanity around was like having a daughter again, so he tried to sum it up differently. "It's just nice to do something for someone else every once in a while "
“yeah, i mean— generosity makes ya feel accomplished n’ all!” she smiled at him, bright as ever. “oh, and, mind if i carry a few of the bags?
Arthur nodded, "sure, here you are." He handed them to her as they continued walking back to their house.
"I hope you enjoy your stay with us."
she took the bags, shuffling them onto her arms. “i have so far! m’ very sure i’m going to love it.”
"Wonderful." Arthur looked down at his watch, "hm, Noel should be home soon. I wonder what we will have for dinner."
“oh! could i help make whatever it is? m’ good at following directions, i swear!” she comes to trot at arthur’s side, beaming.
Arthur smiled, "hm, you'll have to convince Noel, it's his kitchen and he is quite particular." He laughed at the times Noel had made him leave while cooking because he stole ingredients.
“i can be quite convincing when i want to be. and, plus, i’ve had to live with my sisters in the kitchen while i’m trying to cook. i’m sure he can handle one kid who is actually going to help.” she sounds quite confident in herself!
Arthur looked at her before laughing a bit, "I see. Well, then I'll let you convince Noel yourself!"
They turned the corner and ended up at their home rather quickly; Arthur took out his keys and unlocked the door as they strolled in to find Noel already in the kitchen.
"Welcome home loves. Woah, who's this?"
“i will!” she continues to walk alongside arthur, only pausing to wait for the door to open. she follows them inside once it is. and she drops her bags before responding to noel.
“hi! m’ vanity. these two took me in like a cat off the street!” she sounds incredibly happy about this.
John picks up her bags and takes them to the laundry room to wash as Arthur watches her interact with Noel.
"Woah alright little thing. Vanity huh?" He throws a towel he was drying his hands with over his shoulder before reaching out to shake her hand. He looks at Arthur, "we just taking kids off the street now or what?"
“yes, indeed, sir. and i believe that makes you, mr. noel?”
she shakes his hand, giving him a wide smile in turn. “to be fair, m’ not exactly your usual kid. but, uhm, arthur can probably sum that up? quick rundown? i’m awful at summarizing.” she speaks confidently, but her shaking hands betray her. she’s nervous.
Noel can immediately tell that she's jumpy even without looking at her. "You got it sweetheart, that's me." He took his eyes off Arthur to turn back to her, making a mental note to ask Arthur about her later.
"So you're staying with us? How long?"
she grinned, again, unevenly. “that’s good! glad i got it right.” she sighed before she continued.
“truthfully? as long as you will have me. my home isn’t the best and i never feel truly safe there, but— i don’t know. it’s more homey here already.”
Noel looked at her, a flash of worry across his face as he heard her say she was unsafe. "Well I suppose that settles that, you'll stay with us until you're ready to be on your own. I don't leave kids on the street and I really don't live with kids in homes they aren't safe at.
she chuckled. “arthur felt the same! m’ glad you’ll have me over.” she does seem genuinely happy.
“now, arthur said something about dinner.. would you mind letting me help? perfectly fine if not, but i swear i will listen!”
Noel smiled a little crooked grin, "oh, you wanna help?" He turned around and walked towards the kitchen with Vanity not far behind, "alright, I'll see what you can do."
“oh? really? arthur made it sound like i was gonna have to be a lot more convincing than just outright asking.” she stood in the kitchen awkwardly, waiting to have some kind of directive.
Noel laughed, "I'm not letting you off easy just because I said you could help." He handed her several vegetables, "I want you to wash, peel, and cut all of these."
she blinked slowly, thinking. it didn’t take her long to just start nodding, though. “i can do that! i hope. cutlery is where—?”
"Second drawer to your right." He pointed as he started gathering the rest of the ingredients he needed.
she nodded again, walking over to the drawer and pulling out a knife. wandering around, she finds a cutting board too. and she gets to work! washing, peeling, and cutting.

“oh? really? arthur made it sound like i was gonna have to be a lot more convincing than just outright asking.” she stood in the kitchen awkwardly, waiting to have some kind of directive.
theres the soft rustle of feathers coming from somewhere. it almost sounds like a bird stuck in the branches of a tree. the following “come the FUCK on!” clarifies that, no, this is not a bird.

“truthfully? as long as you will have me. my home isn’t the best and i never feel truly safe there, but— i don’t know. it’s more homey here already.”
theres the soft rustle of feathers coming from somewhere. it almost sounds like a bird stuck in the branches of a tree. the following “come the FUCK on!” clarifies that, no, this is not a bird.
