I'm an aspiring author and I use fanfic as exercises and to help with writer's block (: I have been writing for 10+ years, have led technical support groups for writers, won state competitions, and I also display original work at local art shows alongside my other traditional art.

I sometimes draw fanart, but I have an art business now so it's not super frequent.

I'm the captain of two trains:

→ captain barnes. I love the universe idea of if steve fell in the alps and bucky took up the shield to finish off the red skull.

→ jewish bucky. I'm jewish, sebastian stan is part jewish, bucky was likely from an immigrant family, and I tend to write bucky at varying degrees of faith/culture participation in different fics. If you have an issue with that, excuse yourself - this is a zero tolerance zone for bigotry of any kind.

Do we have a genre name for artists like Sofia isella because when I try to describe her I always gotta go “she’s one of those artists whose songs are about things that are a problem, are a problem now and need to be solved, and she’s kinda tired of catering to the sensitivities of those who aren’t doing anything to help so now you have songs that lay out with vivid, evocative imagery exactly why this is a problem and what it does to people who suffer from it to the point of being nsfw at times and oh you’re uncomfortable? Having the people previously pushed under the rug suddenly brought to the forefront in vivid detail is disturbing? Maybe you should fix the problem.”

Watching Guillermo Del Toro's Frankenstein already made me feel so hopeful for the future of movies but after watching the behind the scenes even inspired me. Truly, as long as human beings are alive, art will never die. There will always be people passionate enough and hard working enough to keep creating art in a meaningful way, in a loving way and a human way. Seeing so many artists in different fields come together with the sole purpose of saying something was so beautiful. It's so draining constantly seeing AI shoved into EVERY SINGLE creative space sometimes I wonder why keep trying?

This is why. Movies like Frankenstein are the reason.

I'm not saying Bucky is canonically Jewish. That call is for Marvel comics execs to make. What I am saying is that Marvel is typically pretty explicit about the religious and cultural identities of their characters, but they've been pretty vague with Bucky. The only Christmas story we see Bucky in has him muse about how it wasn't really celebrated much in his childhood and how it reminds him of his father (not his mother, notably). We see his sister Becca having a Christmas tree, but we also see canonically Jewish Bruce Wayne and Kate Kane have one, too. So the presence of a Christmas tree doesn't really mean much, especially for a character like Bucky who has assimilation as one of his overarching motifs. There's also the fact that Bucky was inspired by Joe Simon's Jewish classmate. There's also Joe Simon's recollections of the tenuous relationship the Jewish kids always had with the Irish Catholic kids. Steve Rogers was established to be Irish Catholic; thematically, it follows that Bucky Barnes should be established as Jewish. Bucky's role has also always been to go where Captain America could not, whether by the constraints of social standards in the real world, or the retconned role of being the Army's silent enforcer in-universe. Captain America is the public figure, while Bucky is the one behind the scenes being his moral and ethical voice and shield. Captain America was created by Jews, and Bucky is Captain America's soul. It follows, then, that Bucky should be Jewish.

Then we get to the Winter Soldier. The exploitation of Jewish bodies is not foreign to the history of the Soviet Union, going back deeper in Russia's past. The Winter Soldier, a young man plucked away from his peers and his culture and made into a loyal Russian soldier is eerily reminiscent of the Cantonists: Jewish boys and teens abducted by the Tsarists and forcibly converted and brainwashed into Russian soldiers. The Winter Soldier also represents the position of Jews in the Soviet Union- stripped of their culture, suspended in time behind the Iron Curtain, made into foreign agents of Communism so that if anyone gets the fall, it's the Jews, not the leaders of the Union itself. The Winter Soldier's entire appeal to the Soviets was his ability to effortlessly blend in with American, European, and Russian society. Such were the traits of the Rootless Cosmopolitan, a stereotype peddled regardless of whether the flag flying was a swastika or a hammer and sickle. It was a trait ascribed to all Jews, and if it could make them useful as spies, then maybe they could stave off extermination. Despite his usefulness and efficiency, the Winter Soldier was never allowed the fame and prominence allowed to contemporary, ethnically Slavic Soviet heroes like the Red Guardian. Was it because of his espionage role? Mostly, yes, but I do think the way he is spoken down to by his superiors and the shorter leash he is depicted as having might also be explained by his handlers knowing he was Jewish. A Jew could be useful, but they could never be fully trusted.

So is Bucky Barnes Jewish? I think so, but I doubt Marvel will ever confirm it. Until then, he remains in a liminal, Schrödinger's Jew space alongside characters like Peter Parker, who hasn't yet been officially confirmed as Jewish but whom creators have later come out and said that they see him as such, and who Marvel is constantly teasing us with by showing up as a prominent guest in both Chanukah and Christmas celebrations. I think there's more than enough evidence to make him a Jew, but those are just my thoughts. What do I know? It's not like I've read every comic he's ever appeared in (I have).

The Creature calling itself Viktor and following Viktor around is so much more tragic when you know how babies develop and how newborns don't yet realise they and their mothers are two separate people. And one of the first things babies realise about themselves is that they're a whole separate person. And one of the first things they do when they start developing as a person is find out they have hands and play with them and with textures and start exploring. And when they want to start talking, they put their hands and fingers on their parents lips and throats to figure out how that sound is coming out of there and then they start imitating. Guillermo Del Toro nailed every single step of human development in such a beautiful celebration of life.

And Viktor abused the crap out of the poor creature for not being smart enough when it was only following natural developmental milestones. Because, like most men, like his own father, he wanted to create life but he wasn't interested in raising it beyond that and instead wanted it to be born a doctor ready to show the world how smart Viktor is for creating a carbon copy of his brain except in a stronger immortal body. Elizabeth gave him five minutes of love and let him explore how sounds come out of her mouth and he started talking.

Idk why some people are complaining about the movie being different from the book when the essence is literally the same, Viktor created life as if it were a godly feat and not something women have been doing since the dawn of humanity, and then he abandoned that life as deadbeat dads do. And that abandonment is what created a monster out of an innocent souls who could have become a beautiful being had it been nurtured. That's literally what Mary Shelley wrote. She would have been proud of this story. On top of being an incredibly gorgeous visual story, the narrative is very loyal to the point Shelley wanted to make.

The fact that Harlander only saw Victor's science, his creation, as a means to preserving himself. His own name.

The fact that Victor had only thought so far as the creation itself, and not what comes after. That the perfection in his mind began and ended with the act of creation.

How men only see (pro)creation through the lens of carrying on their legacy.

And when told no, that the creature will not be Harlander and his legacy? He seeks to ruin it all. And when the creature seems too slow, too difficult, too painful for Victor to deal with? He tries to destroy him.

Because to them, if what is borne from that isn't a perfect vessel to carry on their name, if it does not serve them, then the only answer is violence.

NEED a production of cabaret where the emcee is obviously, violently transgender. no hiding it, no stealth, no passing. boobs out, obvious masculinization/feminization makeup, heavily used falsetto/deepened voice. mtf or ftm doesn’t matter—no matter what it’s wildly clear that they were born one gender and are now choosing to present as another. in the final scene the emcee conforms to their gender assigned at birth.
