everyone had gone through their own struggles. small herbivores had to watch their backs, making sure they weren’t going to be the next meal on the black market. carnivores had to tip toe around every corner to show that they had no ill intentions in a public setting. though of course there were some individuals who ruined that sort of peace for everyone else who made the effort. it simply had not been fair; for everyone had to suffer from another’s own violent behavior. 

but that was just how the world was for him. he was feared. he was hated. there was absolutely nothing legosi could do about the way others had felt about him. and dwelling on that fact, along with apologizing for simply being himself, was never going to change anything. 

oh how he wanted for there to be change. 

though only time could tell if he was going to live long enough to be able to witness it.

     ❝ you have nothing to be sorry for -- our kind shouldn’t have to apologise for the things humans decide to do to us.  ❞

     change was something she strove for && if she could help it she would fight for it -- even if it takes her last breath to do so. she protects && fights for her kind && she has no reason to ever stop. some may label her a war criminal or say she takes it too far but she doesn’t see it that way. in her eyes, someone needs to actually take a stand because no one is seeming to -- she has to && she will.

     but xayah isn’t the only vastaya that has been through similar situations -- it’s why most take on a more human appearance when involving themselves with humans && yet it was never quite enough, they were still hated && feared even when they reached out for peace. though she knows those who appear more like legosi have an even harder time -- she honestly feels for him && there’s a sympathy inside her that says to protect him where she can.

     ❝ look, it takes time to realise you’re not the one in the wrong even if they make you feel like you are. you’ve done nothing but exist the way nature has made you. but i’ll tell you right now, if anyone ever bothers you again or tries to hurt you ? you come to me -- i’ll take care of it for you. i’m xayah, by the way. ❞

         well… that was disappointing. whatever an ihotlan was, it sure wasn’t as cool as someone who could transform into an actual bird. but he digresses and leaves it at that. as clearly, that wasn’t even close to the main source of disappointment for both sun and the vastayan.

         while he knows and understands what humans have done in the past and even still now, there were good people. his friends – he knows for certain that he could trust. they were never quick to judge him simply because he was a faunus, at least, not for long. and as much as he wants to understand where she’s coming from, he couldn’t bear to encourage her spew of spite.

         ❛ faunus, people like us, we’re all capable of those things. it’s not just a human thing. i understand that they’ve wronged you in the past and did some things that are unforgivable – hell, they even tried to kill you. ❜ eyes closing momentarily, he shakes his head.❛ you have every reason to be mad, to want revenge. but why are you so sure killing all of them will suddenly make everything better? ❜

       ❝ i never said i was going to kill them all -- if they get in my way, that’s their own fault. if they hurt me or my kind ? i’ll gladly && easily put them out of their misery. they leave me alone then they’re fine. ❞

        soft growl leaves her throat, arms crossing under her chest as she feels her feathers bristle further. he didn’t get it -- they were different sides of a very similar coin but unlike him she didn’t have human friends. the only person she’d ever really let close to her besides her own tribe && family was rakan -- who also happened to be the lhotlan like her.

      ❝ i’ve never personally met a good human -- they all lie to us && hurt our kind. that’s all they are, all they’ll ever be. my tribe never hurt me -- but i know there are vastaya who have sided with the humans. we call them mu'takl -- race traitors -- i’d prefer to not spill vastayan blood but as you say, we aren’t all irreproachable. the difference is, i’m willing to do what i have to for my cause -- even if it means cutting down my own if i must. so believe me, i’m well aware that our kind can be just as bad but humans can’t be as good. if a few humans need to die so i can find my tribe again && restore my kind to the proud race we once were, then that’s something i’m willing to keep doing. how far would you be willing to go if everyone you ever knew && loved was ripped away from you suddenly ? ❞

       EARS TWITCH TOWARD the back of herself, the quietest footsteps picked up by her ascended hearing -- something a human’s ear couldn’t. piercing gold eyes fall on the child -- human children always wanted to pet her, it was an annoyance on the best of days, really, && she could only assume that’s what he wanted. she honestly didn’t care enough.

      there’s an eyeroll -- scoff leaving her -- as she crosses her arms tightly in general annoyance. that hatred in his eyes is familiar, however, though she’s not sure what the world of humans may have done to someone so young.

       the vastaya is defensive in nature – she doesn’t care for those that appear human but further than that, she doesn’t care for humans && their kind to be giving her advice. she’d rather spit on her own grave than take anything a human says at face value. what did they know about moving forward ? what values did they have when all they did was lie && steal && hurt her kind ?

       ❝ you’d probably still just be a human – so what’s the difference, really ? ❞

       the vastaya sways hips to one side, hand tapping long nails against the cloth at her side. she’s human but she’s been treated poorly by her own kind – mind not changed as to the fact that humans all came in one shade of terrible. her story didn’t soften her but it elicits a clicking sound from her throat in annoyance – whether it be at the young woman before her or the one that had held her prisoner in a tower was up for interpretation.

      ❝ tell me you got revenge for it – who you would have been doesn’t matter now, as long as she got what was coming to her. humans have so little life in them that they wonder what things might be – you don’t have magic, why dwell on it ? seems pointless for your short life span – just make yourself who you want to be instead of letting some idiot weigh you down && forge your path for you. the past doesn’t define you, your actions do – just make sure no one treads on you again. ❞

       IT’S A SENTIMENT that hits too close to home for her -- but of course someone like him would have to deal with the same prejudices as her kind did. it’s unsurprising but serves to boil her blood nonetheless.
