POV: What’s the one thing you ask in Laylatul Qadr?

Me: That next Ramadan, Gaza wakes up to adhan, not airstrikes. That children run through streets, not over rubble.

That mothers set the iftar table without counting the empty seats.

That fathers come home to laughter without burying their kids.

Ya Rab, I don’t ask for myself tonight. I ask for my brothers and sisters in Gaza. I ask for the mothers who cry over their children, for the fathers who feel helpless.

Let this be the last Ramadan they suffer. Let next Ramadan be filled with peace, with freedom—with life. Ameen.

Surah Al-Duha is hope.

It's our escape from anxiety and overthinking. It restores our faith. It reminds us that Allah will be with us when we are lost a

nd hopeless, and that He will reward us until we are satisfied. And reflect on Allah's comforting words: "And your Lord is going to give you, and you will be satisfied." (Quran 93:5) Surah Duha assures us that after every hardship comes ease and that Allah's mercy and guidance are always near. So, keep your faith strong, and trust that Allah will lead you to light and peace.

Ramadan is about learning more about Islam, making changes, learning to depend on Allah, and being a better version of ourselves. It isn’t about changing your eating habits, it’s about changing your heart and affections toward Allah and His commandments.

As a chapter of trials ends in my life, I cannot help but wonder, how will the next chapter look like? I know that this dunyā is imprinted on distress,

طُبعت على كدرٍ وأنت تريدها

صفوًا من الأقذاء والأكدارِ

ومكلف الأيام ضد طباعها

متطلبٌ في الماء جذوة نارِ

So, I’m left torn between remembering the tearful nights of agony, pain, and fear, only wishing for a way out, while on the other hand, also being a bit worried about what the future may hold; even if the past was painful, I got comfortable with this pain, and I lived with it long enough that it became a part of me.

But I will find solace in knowing that with every hardship there is ease, with every difficult matter there is a particular sweetness that remains after the hardship is over, and that even in the most difficult of situations, my Rabb is extremely generous, even with my poor, sinful soul.

So I remind myself to say, with full conviction and in truthfulness,

الحمد لله على كل حال

Because truly, no matter what happens, Praise is always due to Allāh, and I know that He will not forsake me.

It’s so easy to look at someone and judge them because they are different, less motivated, less religious, less accomplished or less smart.

If you feel superior by comparing yourself to the shortcomings of others, then your heart needs cleansing.

If you frown at a person who doesn’t do the rituals, then your shortcomings are more severe.

If you choose to do outward acts of piety to be seen, but you’re oozing with jealousy and hatred, then you’re only fooling yourself.

Stop being critical of others and focus on fixing yourself.

Realize that you have no control over others, but you can change yourself!
