I just want someone to sit me down on a couch, put on a couple movies, and tell me they’ll do the rest.
I want to get comfy on the couch, bowl of popcorn in my arms, and a drink on the coffee table beside me. The movies will play and I will continue to eat and drink.
After a while the popcorn starts to taste sweeter and the drink becomes thicker, but I don’t notice. After all I’m too engrossed in the movies. I never notice you switched my plain water to a thick milkshake, and my light popcorn snack to something more filling and tasty. I won’t notice when the current snack I’m eating runs out, and instead there’s now a box of pizza in front of me. I won’t notice that my belly is getting fuller and fuller by the end of every movie. I won’t notice that the movies keep playing, and the snacks keep coming.
Oh but you do, every snack, every meal, every shake I finish, you’re counting. Every snack I’ve eaten, every slice of pizza, every milkshake, every calorie, you’ve counted. You notice how packed full my belly is becoming and yet I keep eating and you keep supplying.
When the last movie stops, and the credits roll, that’s when I decide I’ll stand up and stretch, but I can’t. I huff and puff and lean and try, but no matter what I do I won’t budge, I can’t get up, so I sink back into the couch, wondering just how heavy I’ve gotten, only then will I look down at my belly. I’ll gasp and ask “How did this happened?”
But you won’t reply, you’ll just smile, and tease me as you clean up the last of the evidence, and when I groan and moan, finally feeling the effects of my binge, will you finally sit down next to me, an arm wrapping behind my neck, and the other reaching for my belly.
You’ll lightly shake it, and it doesn’t move, my belly is too full and round to cause ripples, unlike how it usually does when it’s empty, and you’ll chuckle.
You’ll grab the remote and put on another movie as you help me into your lap and let me nestle the back of my head into your chest, and I’ll sigh in relief as you massage my belly and tell me how good I was, and soon enough we’ll both fall asleep.
