Sooo...My brain cooked up something...
What do you guys think of a pattern reveal in a...different way? It's messy, bear with me. I didn't sleep last night. This is an idea I got for severe anxiety + chronic pain Rumi pattern reveal.
Let's assume the Idol awards were postponed to 2 or 3 days from the initial date due to venue problems.
Rumi couldn't take her anxiety meds that morning because there is supposed to be a time interval before each dose; Rumi couldn't take hers before 7am. Then the train fight happens.
The whole thing leaves Rumi so devastated that she doesn't even take her meds. And the thoughts of singing Takedown at the Idol Awards are gnawing at her mind. Ugly thoughts that she doesn't deserve to live because she is a lying, filthy demon. Then, chronic pain kicks up while bandaging the wound that huge demon with a club had given her because she wasn't focused on the fight and thought she deserved to die. She'd thrown the last of her meds in the sink because she was so angry at herself. Now she's having a panic attack.
The pain with the immense anxiety slowly builds up, but it is just bearable enough. Rumi, feeling guilty about snapping at Mira, goes to apologise. She knocks on Mira's door. Mira and Zoey were cuddling. Mira walks to the door, opening it to find Rumi, telling her that if it was about what happened on the train that morning, it's fine. She says it was fair for Rumi to snap because she was already stressed about her voice not being okay, and that Mira was making it worse by pressuring her to tell them what she was hiding.
She sees a tear stream down Rumi's face, then another, which immediately alerts her and Zoey. Rumi never actually cried in front of them. Rumi walks forward to wrap her arms around Mira, her pain escalating. She can only say one word: "Hurts…". It alerts them even more. Rumi's pain tolerance was high. She could shrug off the pain of broken bones or a stab wound just so she could take care of them first. Rumi being in pain means she's in a lot of pain.
Mira guides her to the bed, Zoey sitting up and scooting away to make space for Rumi, asking if she's hurt, to which Rumi's reply is yes, but she'd already taken care of it. Rumi's sobs escalate and she buries herself in Zoey's warm hug. Mira goes to get painkillers but is stopped by Rumi. Rumi tells her that normal painkillers don't work, she takes high end painkillers which she'd currently run out of. Rumi asks Mira to come back to bed, to hold her. Mira does that immediately because this is the most vulnerable they've ever seen Rumi.
After a while, when Rumi's hyperventilation has lowered a little, her sobs still there, Mira asks her why she takes high end painkillers instead, why normal ones don't work. Rumi says that she's diagonised with chronic pain. Severe anxiety too, which apparently makes the pain worse. Mira and Zoey ask her why Celine never told them about this. Rumi says that Celine; her guardian, her mentor, the closest thing she has to a mother; doesn't know either. It sets of alarms in Mira and Zoey's minds. Celine knows everything about Rumi because she raised her.
Zoey asks her why she didn't tell Celine abt this. Rumi says that she's enough of a burden on Celine, she didn't want to give her another reason to even consider killing Rumi. Mira and Zoey go still, their blood running cold. Zoey asks her what she means by that, had Celine tried to kill her? Mira's grip on Rumi tightens at this, pulling their leader closer. Rumi says that no, she didn't, but she should've because Rumi is an abomination, one that is putting the Honmoon in danger by merely existing. Mira's the one to ask her this time: Wdym?
Rumi says that it's because of who her mother fell for. Her father. Who was a demon. Which makes Rumi a demon. Rumi barely pulls up her sleeves to show them the patterns on her arms and pulls down her turtleneck to show them crawling up her neck. Her patterns are the reason her voice isn't working. Because she is the daughter of a Hunter, the Honmoon reacts to her more strongly, but her outbursts sometimes cause her demonic voice to come out and weaken the Honmoon. She can't be a protector. She's weakening the very thing protecting the human realm from Gwi-Ma.
Mira and Zoey are still, listening to Rumi's sobs while processing the fact that their leader was the very thing they're supposed to kill. Despite Rumi being half-demon, Celine still drilled into their heads that all demons must die and that the golden Honmoon would lock away all demons forever….But Rumi is a demon too…half-demon. What would happen to her? Would she too be locked away with Gwi-Ma and his demons? The very thought of losing Rumi terrified them more than her being a demon.
Mira asked wetly why she'd never told them and got the very answer Zoey was expecting: Celine told her that they wouldn't understand, that it wouldn't have made them the most successful hunters there have ever been. Zoey asks why Celine wanted the Honmoon golden. Rumi says that the golden Honmoon was supposed to take away her patterns, cleanse her demonic blood and make her normal again. Mira asks her, angry and sad, what was the guarantee that the golden Honmoon wouldn't have locked Rumi away with the demons instead?
Rumi tells her that Celine wouldn't do that, wouldn't hurt Rumi like that. She's always told Rumi that her patterns would go away when the Honmoon turns gold. That she'd always theorized—That word stops Rumi dead in her tracks. It was just theorized. They never even knew if the Honmoon could be turned gold. Sure, they'd seen strands of gold, but could it even actually be done?
Rumi almost has another panic attack which is stopped by Zoey and Mira when they tell her they don't care if she's a demon or not. She's their teammate, leader, and family. They love her for who she is, not what she is. After Rumi calms down, Zoey calls Celine, and Mira confronts Celine on the phone abt not telling her and Zoey that Rumi is half-demon, and that they both refuse to turn the Honmoon gold because it might lock Rumi away. Mira tells Celine that Rumi had severe anxiety and chronic pain, something she didn't want to tell even Celine because she felt like a burden. Celine's breath hitched on the line before Mira cut the call.
Zoey and Mira's reassurance that they would never hate her, and that they love her for all she is, sends Rumi into a dreamless sleep for the first time in weeks, the two following soon after, snuggling closer to Rumi, who was sandwiched between them.
Yeah...so. Just a normal 3 AM thought. I thought of it more like how a fic should be, but being sleep-deprived has messed it up a bit.
Would y'all like a fic of this?
Y'all better gear up. This is the longest stuff I've written (as per how much I write). This is a meteor shower, imo. Not my best, but definitely something I'm proud of.
Flashback: Mira
It was supposed to be a normal event. Huntrix were often invited to galas because of their popularity. It should have been like any other event for Mira. What she did not expect, however, was to see her family there. She’d left them long ago, but that didn’t mean they wouldn’t affect her as much. Rumi was talking to one of their sponsors, and Zoey was back home, sick due to eating too many shrimp chips. Rumi did say that they could go back whenever because they were special guests. She didn’t want to bother Rumi with it because she didn’t want to get Rumi involved with her family’s toxic problems.
It started the way it always did, with her parents asking her to come back and telling her they’re sorry for their behaviour. She knew it was just a lie, a facade. They’d thrown her out and said that she was worth nothing without them, just a problem to be dealt with, and now, they wanted her back solely because she’s a world fashion icon, richer than them, more popular. She’d refused as politely as she could because the paparazzi were watching. That was when their polite mask dropped. They tried to gaslight her, emotionally blackmail her. When that didn’t work, they resorted to taunting her about how she’s nothing without her bandmates, that they would leave her the second they saw who she really was: a problem child with anger issues whose rage controlled her actions.
Rumi had overheard this and politely excused herself before standing in front of Mira’s parents with a glare she definitely picked up from Celine. She gave them a piece of her mind, saying that they wouldn’t be this popular if it weren’t for Mira. She’s their choreographer, the world fashion icon and their friend. If they were to ever resort to such habits again, they would be banned from attending any galas where Huntrix is present. Rumi had even gone as far as to whisper in her father’s ear that if they ever tried to get in contact with Mira and perform such antics, she would personally have Celine make their life a living hell on her way out.
Mira had already left by then, standing by the open balcony to get some air. Rumi had gently convinced her that they should go back to the penthouse, Bobby said he’d handle the rest. Mira had nodded wordlessly, her expression blank. It was pretty late, so Zoey was fast asleep. After changing into comfortable clothes, Mira stood on her room’s balcony, looking down at the dazzling lights of the city below them.
There was a knock on her door, following which Rumi entered her room. Mira spoke in a monotone voice, saying that Rumi didn’t have to interfere; she could’ve handled it. Rumi countered it, saying that they’re friends, a family. As the eldest and the leader of Huntrix, it is her responsibility to make sure no one says shit about either Mira or Zoey. Mira retorted aggressively, moving forward to jab a finger at Rumi’s chest and saying that she should spend more time with her and Zoey if she really cares about them. With how much she keeps them at arm's length, it feels like she’s just…there. Not present with them. She then turns away, feeling slightly guilty (though she won’t admit it) and looking down at the Honmoon’s soft glow, her hands on the railing.
Rumi has no words because she knows the reason. Her patterns. She looks away from Mira, breathing in heavily before letting it out. She tells Mira that she’s pretending. Mira isn’t truly mad at her. She’s just feeling vulnerable. Without another word, she wraps Mira in a hug from behind, staying there for a moment before moving to stand beside her. She slips under Mira’s arm, gently resting her head under Mira’s chin, wrapping her arms around Mira’s neck as she pulls her down for a hug. Mira is a little shocked since Rumi isn’t usually the one to initiate physical contact. She avoids it like a bug. Looking down at Rumi, she wraps her arms around Rumi’s waist, pulling her closer.
They stay like that for a while before Rumi lets go, telling Mira that she’s not aggressive. If she were, Mira wouldn’t make breakfast for her and Zoey every morning, carry around stuff they might need whenever they’re out, restocking the med kit even though there are several around the penthouse. She and Zoey would never abandon her, no matter what. Even if it’s them or the world, Rumi would always choose them.
Rumi wishes her goodnight and leaves the room after telling Mira to get some good rest, sleep in tomorrow if she wants to. She and Bobby will handle tomorrow’s PR meeting while Mira and Zoey get some proper rest for the weekend.
Mira was left with a warm feeling in her chest, smiling softly as she went back to sleep, a sense of belonging now in her heart.
Flashback: Zoey
Zoey was having trouble coming up with lyrics for their new album. She’d stayed up day and night, surviving on coffee and shrimp chips. Mira was away for a photoshoot with one of their fashion sponsors. That left only her and Rumi in the penthouse. Rumi was working on the music as well as managing event schedules and new collaborations with Bobby.
Zoey wanted to make herself useful, too. She had to. Mira and Rumi were working hard, so it’s only fair that she does too. However, she hit the lyricist’s block. She couldn’t think, couldn’t find inspiration for her lyrics. The fact that she hadn’t eaten a proper meal in 3 days didn’t help either. She’d been lying to Rumi that she had eaten because Rumi usually came back late, and she didn’t want to bother an already tired Rumi with dinner. She didn’t want to be too much.
Rumi, on the other hand, was concerned. She suspected that Zoey had not been eating properly. That was solidified by the fact that there were no dishes in the sink or in the cleaning rack, and the fact that Bobby said that Zoey would always tell him she’d eat later or order something. He was in charge of Huntrix’s security, too, so food deliveries would be sent up only after Bobby had been notified and pinged Rumi about the food as well.
Rumi entered the studio to find Zoey passed out on the keyboard. She immediately rushed over to Zoey and shook her awake. Zoey mumbled drowsily that she felt sleepy and hungry. When Rumi asked if she’d eaten anything, a proper meal. Zoey replied in a daze that she’d eaten shrimp chips and drank coffee. When asked if that was all she had in the last three days, Zoey said yes.
Rumi had a feeling it was food poisoning. She immediately contacted Bobby and asked him to clear her and Zoey’s schedules for the next few days, also asking him to bring electrolytes because she suspected Zoey had food poisoning. Might come in handy in case Zoey starts puking if she feels sick. Bobby had agreed immediately.
Rumi carefully picked Zoey up to avoid making her sick from the motion. She put Zoey down on the couch, adjusting pillows and throwing a blanket over her to avoid making her feel cold. She started making a light fruit salad and some ginger tea. Zoey had woken up when the elevator dinged, and Bobby stepped out of it. He had a plastic bag with him, which he put on the coffee table next to the couch. He informed Rumi that he’d brought some electrolytes and fever medication in case Zoey started running a fever.
Zoey had her eyes closed but heard everything. It made her feel like she was a burden, being too much. Had she taken care of herself, this wouldn’t have happened, and Bobby wouldn’t have had to explain to a show host that they were supposed to attend tomorrow and that they would have to postpone it. Bobby had patted Zoey’s head gently on his way to the elevator before asking her to get well soon.
Zoey sat up as Rumi gently guided her to do so, drinking a glass of water that Rumi was holding to her mouth with small sips. She apologised to Rumi, saying that she should’ve taken care of her health, should have eaten something, and that she’s sorry for being too much. She also apologised for not being enough, not being able to come up with just lyrics, while Rumi and Mira did the important work.
Rumi immediately understood what the problem was. She carefully wrapped her arms around Zoey, leaning back to put Zoey’s head on her chest, gently shushing her as Zoey broke into sobs. Rumi pulled down the sleeves of her hoodie as they rode up slightly (to avoid her patterns being discovered) before rubbing a hand up and down Zoey’s back while the other scratched her scalp. When Zoey’s sobs had faded into hiccups, Rumi fed her small bits of fruit, saying that Zoey could never be too much and that she loved taking care of Zoey.
(She also loved how Zoey lit up whenever turtles came up in a conversation or when she was sharing facts about animals, but wouldn’t admit it.)
Rumi also reassured Zoey that it was completely normal not to be able to come up with lyrics. A creative block can happen to anyone. When Zoey said that she had to because she and Mira were working very hard to make this their best tour yet. Rumi told Zoey that she’s more than just their lyricist. She was their maknae, a part of their family. No matter what happens, her lyrics are not what define who she is. Just because she can’t come up with lyrics doesn’t mean she’s worthless or not working hard enough.
While comforting her, Rumi helped her eat more than half of the fruit salad and drink enough water. Rumi had stayed with her the whole time, asking her if she needed anything and even helping her with the music. This memory with Rumi was her inspiration for the lyrics of one of their songs, “Paper Lanterns”.
The song was trending on the charts for months until they released a demo of How It’s Done for their next album.
Flashback: Celine
2005. Four years after Celine had lost both Miyeong and Poppy. Four years since the demon attack that killed Miyeong and caused Poppy to turn away from her. Four years since she’d lost one of the loves of her life and distanced herself from the other.
It was 24th October, Miyeong’s death anniversary. The day after Rumi was born, she lost her mother, leaving her in Celine’s arms as she looked pleadingly at Poppy, begging her not to leave.
Celine was currently sitting by Miyeong’s grave, cleaning up weeds and planting Lilacs and Peonies. She’d cleaned the grave stone too, lighting an incense and putting freshly cut flowers. After offering food to Miyeong’s spirit, Celine sat there for a while, bursting into tears as she begged her unnie to come back. Even if it had been 4 years, she still remembered Miyeong’s smile, voice and touch like it was just yesterday, the grief still fresh.
Rumi was watching from far away, seated on the Hanok’s porch. She straightened up as Celine began walking back to the Hanok, a frown on Rumi’s face as she saw Celine’s tear-streaked expression. She knew Cece was upset because Eomma wasn’t home (that’s what she’d told Rumi because she was still too young to understand that her eomma was dead).
Celine sat down behind her, doing her best to hide her tears as she braided hair. As soon as the hair tie was in place, Rumi turned around to hug Celine as tight as her little body could. Celine hugged back and asked her what the matter was. Rumi replied in a muffled voice, “You looked sad, Cece. I feel better when you hug me if I’m sad, so I hug you to make you feel better.” Rumi might have been just four years old, but Celine couldn’t deny that she saw every bit of Miyeong in her at this moment. Unable to hold back her tears anymore, she held Rumi close to her chest, letting silent tears stream down her face as she let her emotions loose a little for the first time since Miyeong’s death. After she’d calmed down, she walked back into the Hanok with Rumi in her arms. She put Rumi down and asked her to get Coco. In the meantime, she prepared kimbap and hotteok for Rumi, looking amused as Rumi swallowed an entire roll of kimbap without even chewing it.
The following year, on Miyeong’s death anniversary, Celine told Rumi about her father, the truth about her mother’s death, and about the Honmoon as she braided her hair by Miyeong’s grave.
Present Day: Demon realm
The boys are currently in a council meeting with the elders, discussing modernisation since most of the demons are from old times. They’d left Rumi at home with Mae-rin, a trusted friend of theirs who is also the one helping Rumi heal.
Zoey and Mira had made a plan to take Rumi ‘home’. They’d seen the boys leave and saw this as the perfect opportunity to bring Rumi back to the human realm, talk things out, and make everything normal, the way it was before. Celine was opposed to the idea because she knew Rumi was still terrified of them. Zoey and Mira reasoned that it was just an illusion, a front demons were putting up, all a part of Jinu’s plan to break them apart.
Celine had once again reluctantly agreed because she remembered that Jinu, too, had confessed to backstabbing Rumi during the IA. They sneak up to the Saja Hanok, unaware that Rumi was, in fact, not alone. They peek in through an open window and see Rumi resting on a bean bag, careful of her arm and leg, holding Coco with her uninjured hand.
Just as Zoey stood up sneakily to climb in, a gentle voice rang from the kitchen, asking Rumi if soup was all she wanted, to which Rumi said yes. Mira quickly pulled Zoey down, cursing under her breath. They watch as a demon woman steps out of the kitchen with a bowl of soup. She sets it down on the couch table in front of Rumi before looking inside her box of medical supplies, nodding when she finds everything she would need.
Rumi tried to eat, she really did. But her hands wouldn’t stop shaking. They were trembling so violently that the spoon almost fell to the ground, had it not been for Mae-rin catching it mid-air. For the first time since their arrival, Rumi spoke, whispering out a meek apology. Mae-rin gently reassured her, saying that the Hunters’ arrival and their previous encounter had shaken her up a lot.
For the years they had known Rumi, she had never avoided eye contact or stuttered, always confident and standing up for them whenever things got out of hand. Mae-rin gently brought the spoon to Rumi’s lips, saying that healing takes time, especially from PTSD and anxiety. Rumi had eaten only half of the soup before mumbling a meek ‘no more’. Mae put the bowl on the kitchen counter before walking back to Rumi.
Mae asked Rumi how long it had been since her last dose. Rumi said that it had been nearly 9 hours. Nodding, Mae said that it should last a few more minutes before the effects wore off. Zoey and Mira suspected that the demons were drugging Rumi, a plausible reason as to why she was so terrified of them, even though they were friends.
Mae unbuttoned Rumi’s shirt from the side (it’s one of those things where the buttons/zipper are on the side instead). She gave Rumi a tough belt to bite on in case it hurt too much, but Rumi refused, holding onto Coco tightly. Taking off the bandages showed how severe the wounds inflicted by Zoey and Mira were.
The hunters in question and Celine let out a horrified gasp at Rumi’s condition.
It was a huge gash on her shoulder, the skin around it charred. It covered the expanse of her shoulder, a bit of her upper arm and went dangerously close to her jugular. Taking off the bandages had caused some of the skin to come off and blood to come through. Though there was only slight bleeding, the fact that they could see burnt bone from a certain angle made Zoey sick, bile rising to Mira’s throat. It was her Gok-Do that pierced Rumi over there, after all.
Mae carefully cleaned the wound, applied burn cream and deemed it healed enough for delicate inner stitches. Rumi let out a whimper as the needle pierced sensitive flesh, saying that the herb was probably wearing off. Mae asked her how much longer she could go without the herbs because she couldn’t just leave the needle halfway through Rumi’s flesh. Rumi told her that it would hold out for maybe 30 more minutes before the pain became unbearable. It only took Mae 10 minutes to stitch up and bandage her wound, courtesy of being a healer.
Moving on to Rumi’s calf, Mae had been extra careful because there were two wounds there, Zoey’s Shin-Kals being the culprits. Though small, they had damaged many of the nerves and muscle tissue around them, making movement difficult without crutches or hopping on the other leg. Removing the bandage revealed twin wounds similar to the one on her shoulder. Rumi had let out a louder whimper, the medication wearing off a bit more, making her anxious, which in turn caused her chronic pain to flare up. Mae soothed Rumi as she sobbed softly while the wound was being stitched and bandaged, Rumi’s stutter and tremble becoming more prominent.
Mae held a vial to Rumi’s mouth, asking her to swallow as she gently rubbed Rumi’s hand. The vial was a mix of herbs and water to help wash them down. For the next few minutes after that, she gently held both of Rumi’s hands and drew small circles on the back with her thumbs. Rumi had let the dam break, sobbing and stuttering as she told Mae about how helpless she felt on that stage during the Idol Awards, how terrified she’d felt when Zoey and Mira had come so close to ending her life, how betrayed she felt when Jinu told her that he planned it all along, how hopeless she felt when Celine refused to end the life of a mistake like her. She had tears of frustration (because she couldn’t find her words), grief and anger in streaming down her cheeks.
Mae pulled her in carefully, as Rumi sobbed into her shoulder, the pain from her wounds and the chronic pain from the older ones, which had not healed properly, hitting her like a truck. As the herbs started taking effect, Rumi’s sobs quietened down into hiccups and eventually into silence as she fell asleep. Mae gently picked her up before taking Rumi back to her room, tucking her in, placing Coco in her arms and asking the already present Derpy to watch her since Sussie had informed her a few minutes ago that the Saja pack would be home soon.
The Hunters went back to their temporary residence in the demon realm as they heard the Saja Boys getting closer. Zoey and Mira held each other as they cried to sleep, while Celine beat herself up for not being a better parent to Rumi, begging Miyeong for forgiveness.
The Rumi they knew was the leader of Huntrix and Celine's daughter. Zoey and Mira always looked to her because she was their leader and knew what to do even in the worst situations. The Rumi they saw now was broken, in pain, stuttering, anxious and couldn’t even eat by herself. The complete opposite of the woman they once knew, the one who would take hits for them, patch them up before herself, direct backlash towards herself, take care of them no matter the situation.
This made them realise one thing: What they did dug deeper into Rumi than it did for them. Their actions caused her so much pain. They didn’t deserve forgiveness. Even if Rumi did forgive them, being the kind soul she is, they would never be able to forgive themselves.
Phew. That was a lot. Y'all like it though, right? I know I do. It's a mess, but it's mine.
Celine's part here. Angst is on its way, dw.
Some snippets from my work. They're the comfort part, you know.
The next post will be pretty long. There's a lot of flashback comfort followed by angst. It's 357 words, and I'm not even 1/8th way through.
Might take a while, but I promise it's good.
Did y'all know that severe anxiety and PTSD can cause fine-motor tremors, speech disorganisation and psychomotor blocks?
To put it simply, you can't hold things properly cuz you're hands are trembling so badly, can't speak without stuttering, trailing off, or completely losing your words, feeling frustrated because of it and not being able to maintain eye contact.
Oh, anxiety also causes flare-ups if the person is suffering from chronic pain, which makes every single one of those things above twice as bad, btw.
so obviously after everyone's last escapade, the likely-hood of Rumi wanting anything to do with the overworld, outside of her sweet teddy bear now firmly in arms, is low. I suppose the next question is, how does one set up the next meeting? does Rumi give in to a craving for a favorite restaurant? Do the girls work out Rumi is in the Demon realm and become determined to enter(Orpheus style, doomed to fail by the very act of trying) ? perhaps medical issues for Celine to draw her out with one pink boy body guard firmly between them? this AU has so many good paths to take and of course if one wanted Bobby could always get dragged in ughhhhh absolute brain anaconda is what this AU is, love it. thank you for sharing this blender fest.
I heard your ask for a rocket. Let me me provide you with something else.
༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ : A METEOR!!!
Hehehhehe *shouting over the jet engine* ok, so obviously everyone is having a terrible time making this beautiful slurry, ive got to ask, how does the first meeting of Rumi and her girls go? Because I can already see it going sideways and obviously this would not be solved in one meeting, hopefully on neutral ground. Buuuuut if we wanted to be mean, Celine showed she atleast wouldnt kill Rumi, so I could see her (probably with one of her packmates?) Going back to the Hanok looking for maybe a teddy bear or something emotionally valuable, only to be confronted at the door with her fears briefly
Hmm. You've just given me a great idea for more angst. Thank you!
This is going to be loooong. You have been warned.
TW: Panic attack
The meeting does not go well. She definitely has one of the Saja Boys with her when she teleports to the Hanok for her teddy bear (the one Celine had to sew back countless times cuz baby Rumi had no control over her claws).
It's probably around two weeks after the Idol Awards. Rumi is still very...unstable. Nightmares, violent flinching whenever someone touches her, or when Derpy appears out of nowhere (cuz the Honmoon glows when he does that. It also glows when Hunters summon their weapons). She stayed in her ragdoll cat form for nearly the whole time and was very skittish and anxious, not having gotten a lick of sleep since IA.
Jinu, knowing his actions were partly the reason why she was so scared and cautious all the time, decided to make it up to her. Rumi still wouldn't talk to him. Rumi had grown to trust Abby, though very little, because despite being all muscle, he was a softy and a fellow omega.
Abby sat by Rumi's side for a long time without saying a word, waiting for her to turn back into her human form. In the meantime, he asked her a simple question: "Is there anything that would comfort you at this moment? Anything that smells 'safe'?"
I'm naming my new AU 'Splintered Glass, Scorched Bone' (SGSB).
I'll put it in the tags too, dw.
ok, loving this new take, and does Celine correct their assumptions? despondent like she is is she going to try and use that cover story she tried to offer from the movie? blender go brrrrrr we need more settings! preferably higher ones.
Celine doesn't answer for a very long time. She's in...shock. It scares Mira and Zoey cuz they've never seen their mentor so...still. So numb.
I doubt she's going to cover up the truth. Zoey and Mira hesitantly guide Celine to her room, one that is strictly off limits to everyone except Rumi. And there, on the nightstand, is a photo of baby Rumi with a tiny purple swirl on her forearm.
That causes Mira to lose her cool. She confronts Celine, asking her if she sold Rumi's soul to Gwi-Ma when she was just a baby in exchange for something or if Miyeong did something else. Zoey is trying to calm her down. She really is. But she can't help but throw her own accusations at Celine.
Celine snaps out of her trance as soon as Miyeong is mentioned. She hysterically grabs Mira and Zoey by the shoulders, telling them that she tried. All she wanted was to protect Rumi. To rid her of demonic patterns that she inherited from her father so she could finally live a normal life.
Zoey processes this information sooner than Mira does. She asks Celine in a small voice if Rumi had always had patterns. Celine replies with a yes. Rumi has patterns because her mother had a boyfriend who knocked her up and then turned out to be a demon. That makes Rumi half demon.
They kept it a secret. Just among them. Miyeong, Celine and Thirdlight. They couldn't risk their mentors or other surviving hunters knowing that a hunter had a child who was also half demon. Before Miyeong died, she made Celine promise that she would protect her baby.
Celine couldn't...wouldn't refuse. She loved Miyeong, in more ways than one, which she couldn't admit. When Mira asks her why not just tell them, that they would have understood, Celine's response was, "Did you? Did you understand? Did you even try to hear her out? To listen to what she had to say? Your actions justified mine. You are just as much at fault as I am."
Mira and Zoey have no words, no protests. Because they, too, know she was right. They didn't even bother to listen to what Rumi had to say. They stopped listening when Rumi mentioned Jinu, assuming that she was working with him. Against them.
This guilt would haunt them for days. Rumi, on the other hand, is traumatised. All of her nightmares had come true. Even her demon half doesn't trust them as much anymore.
IM SORRY FOR THE NEW AU WHAT ARE MIRA AND ZOEY FEELING ABOUT A. HURTING RUMI AND B. HER BEING “KIDNAPPED” BY ABBY??
THANK YOU FOR ASKING! MY FIRST ASK! Anyway, I'll try my best to answer your questions. Now,
A. They feel hollow. They just found out that the person they've spent years with is a demon. A disgusting, impersonating demon, who was working with their enemies, according to them. They acted on instinct cuz they couldn't process their emotions and what they were seeing. Patterns=demon=must kill. They didn't even notice her bleeding or the charring that happened around her wounds. Had Rumi not teleported, they would've ended up killing her. Rumi and her demon half love loves her girls too much to fight back and injure them, even if accidentally.
B. They think that the Saja Boys had corrupted Rumi, being the reason why she had those patterns. Which ends up making them feel horrible, like, 'we should die' and "we're such horrible friends" for hurting Rumi. Zoey and Mira end up going to Celine, who is still on her knees under the Hunter's Tree, looking blankly at her hands. They tell Celine that the Saja Boys have corrupted Rumi and have taken her somewhere, possibly to the demon realm, for Gwi-Ma to torture. None of them knows yet that Gwi-Ma is gone, once and for all. Meanwhile, Rumi is having a hysterical, heartbreaking, emotional and physical breakdown.
Sorry abt it being a little...weird? I'm sorta supposed to be asleep rn, but this AU has taken over my mind and is refusing to leave.
Bullet points for the new AU:
The attacks from Zoey and Mira's weapons have caused severe burn scarring. The weapons reached bone and caused scarring (dw, it'll take time but will heal, leaving little to no after effects.)
Because I like making Rumi suffer, she also has undiagnosed chronic pain.
The chronic pain has been a constant over the years and rose due to ineffective treatment of the wounds she acquired during demon hunting (taking hits for her girls).
The demon realm gradually heals as Gwi-Ma's fiery reign ends. The life of demons, now free from Gwi-Ma's control, is similar to that of regular humans.
Farming, building, etc, is all now common to see.
Demons used to live in packs before Gwi-Ma began to torture packmates to make the others do his bidding. Better to not get attached if they could die any day.
With him gone, the pack system came back. The Saja Boys were now a pack themselves, and soon, polysaja happened.
Rumi...is not having a good time. Having all her walls broken down, the chronic pain, the pain of her wounds, and whatever happened in the last few hours, hit her like a truck.
It takes really strong herbs to numb the pain, even if by a little. High-end painkillers are nowhere near as effective as the herbs.
There is still a sort of hierarchy system, even among the packs. The Saja Boys are the lead pack. Any final decision, be it a dispute, a growth, or an exploration, goes through them.
The older demons (both who were once humans and who were always demons) are the advisors, providing their centuries of wisdom.
Rumi is a part of the Saja pack, but it's platonic. She is reliant on them for almost everything. It takes her a while to warm up to them after Jinu's betrayal, but soon, they become packmates.
The dynamics are similar to the ABO universe. Jinu is an alpha, Mystery and Romance are betas, Abby and Baby are omegas. Rumi is an omega as well.
All demons in the demon world live in a semi-demon state. Neither fully demon, nor fully human. Demon traits show up as animal traits.
Rumi, however, is a special case. She's either an average rag doll cat (with vivid purple fur, obvi) or a giant tiger, depending on her mood.
If she's angry or she's snapped at someone, she's a tiger. If she's skittish, anxious or just depressed, she's a cat. Being a cat gives her the ability to fit into small spaces and be out of reach, which would've been an escape for her had it not been for her wounds.
Jinu's a wolf, Abby's a bull, Baby's a sea lion (cuz they're unpredictable in the wild and I think he's lowkey unhinged), Mystery's a wolf too, and Romance is a fox.
An apology and a thought
Sorry for disappearing without notice. Exams are a pain, but hey! I got an 89 per cent, so it's a good thing...right?
T'was the last day of school, too. I told my friend an idea I had and she added in some stuff and insisted I share it with you all.
Zoey and Mira attack Rumi backstage instead of just pointing their weapons at her. Mira gets a good hit on her right shoulder while Zoey gets the left calf. Rumi manages to teleport away. She goes to Celine instead of Jinu first, and then the whole 'end me cuz I'm a mistake' scene happens, leaving Celine thinking how horrible a parent mentor she is and Rumi feeling she has no purpose in life since the Honmoon's nearly destroyed, so she might as well try to kill Gwi-Ma. She then teleports away to confront Jinu.
Now here's where my friend pitched an idea. Gwi-Ma is selfish (I'm pretty sure we all know that). He was not going to take away Jinu's memories of his human life. Why would he erase the very thing that puts Jinu under his metaphorical thumb? Let's say the other Sajas only agreed to join Jinu's boy band cuz they too wanted something in exchange (maybe erasure of memories or emotions or maybe death cuz they couldn't stop Gwi-Ma and went against their job as Jeoseung Sajas).
Jinu comes to know of this and decides to betray Gwi-Ma. The other Saja Boys (thankfully) support his decision and decide to help him. When Rumi reaches to confront him, he's even more guilt-stricken when he sees her wounds. Rumi tells him that she's going to kill Gwi-Ma and then all the other remaining demons. After a lot of persuasion that he and the other Saja Boys are on her side and want Gwi-Ma just as dead as she does, they make a plan.
They'll kill him by doing a sort of ancient ritual (which I'll think of later ). Meanwhile, Gwi-Ma is making his way up to the surface cuz of all the negative emotions accumulating in the air as he calls humans, Zoey and Mira included, to Namsam Tower to 'grant their needs/give them what they desire'.
The Saja Boys and Rumi know that they'll have to be very quick and precise cuz Rumi's losing a lot of blood. Blood is required for any demonic ritual (I think, or maybe a sacrifice), so this is their only chance without killing something (they can't exactly try to find cattle to kill rn). Rumi is a half-demon, so she should be able to survive having 1.61 litres of blood drained (She has what is left of the Honmoon and her demon heritage to help with rapid healing, so she will survive).
The ritual is a success, and Gwi-Ma is now killed. Demons are still there, but now free of Gwi-Ma's control. Most of them slip back into the demon realm, while some who wished to live a human life stay behind. Rumi is exhausted by the end, and the Honmoon, while still weak, is slowly healing itself. Zoey and Mira snap out of their trance before everyone else and see Rumi flying high up above Namsam tower before she loses consciousness and free-falls. She's saved by Abby, who then, with Rumi and the rest of the Saja Boys, teleports away.
This is all for now.
Again, I'm sorry for disappearing. Imma make a post about the ritual next (maybe) or continue this AU.
For now, Imma go celebrate.
So...I had a thought. Not sure if anyone's ever done this before or asked about this, but I need to know if this is even possible..
What if during the final battle at Namsan Tower, Rumi made the new Honmoon by using just her soul? Literally. Using her soul as a way to again trap demons and Gwi-Ma back in his realm while becoming a demon herself in the process?
If this is possible, her soul would still be connected to Mira and Zoey's, but only in the form of the new barrier formed. Her physical body and mind are trapped in the demon realm.
Gwi-Ma is wrathful. He was so close to finally taking over the human world, but Rumi's soul had trapped him down below again. As revenge, he imprisons her and tries to break her down using both physical and emotional torture.
It takes a long time, but she could only hold on for so long after her own soulmates pointed their weapons at her, and the one person who was supposed to love all of her couldn't do it.
She goes feral. Like a dog. At Gwi-Ma's beck and call. He keeps her trapped in the demon realm for a while to make sure she is completely under his control before opening a tear in the new barrier months later (tearing her soul open in the process, hurting both her soulmates).
Zoey and Mira confronted Celine after the Idol Awards and have lived with her since then, after making an announcement that Huntrix is on hiatus until further notice. And then, her soulmates and her eomma reach the tear, seeing Rumi upfront and first in her full demon form, barely recognisable, leading the demons' attack. They don't recognise her immediately.
Only when the new barrier (Rumi's own soul) reaches out and tries to connect with her body, her own flesh, does one of them realise that this is Rumi. Their soulmate, daughter, friend, pupil.
I know I'm rambling, but I had to share this cuz it has been on my mind for 3 days...I still need to fill in some gaps tho.
Oh this sounds super interesting.
Would Rumi's soul essentially be outside her body as the honmoon in this? And is her mind still inside her body?
Yes, her soul is outside her body as the honmoon. Her mind is still with her physical body, but she used most of her happiest memories to make the honmoon out of her soul.
Any memories left are slowly forgotten or sort of transferred to her soul because she knows that Gwi-Ma would corrupt her memories of Mira, Zoey and her eomma Celine.
In the demon realm, she is nothing but a mindless puppet, a bloodhound for Gwi-Ma. With little to no memories of her girls and Celine, she gives into the animalistic instincts of a demon.
Soul Barrier AU rambly ramble...
HAVE FUN 👇🏽
Rumi's humanity is buried under all that physical and mental trauma that Gwi-Ma did to her. She's just a mindless puppet/mutt to him at this point, and he constantly has to use pain and flashbacks to keep her obedient.
Her body is just a shell of her former self at this point. The Honmoon though...
I would like to think that Rumi had to focus on her happiest memories and moments to make the new Honmoon out of her soul. Since memories are also how your personality is shaped, I'd say that almost all her memories are with the Honmoon, which only makes it stronger than the older one.
The fans' support or their voices aren't the only things that hold it strong. Rather, it's also her memories of Zoey, Mira and Celine (Bobby as well), and how they remember her that keeps it strong.
Zoey and Mira remember Rumi as their leader, a third of their soul. So their connection to the new Honmoon is obviously strong. To their surprise, however, Celine's connection to this new Honmoon is just as strong, stronger than the one she had with the older Honmoon.
Rumi and Celine were daughter and mother in everything but blood. Say what you will, but I believe that Celine is just misunderstood. She tried her best to raise Rumi, and despite not wanting to take Miyeong's place as Rumi's eomma, that was just how Rumi saw her.
Being her only family ever since the moment Rumi first opened her eyes, it's only fair that Celine has a huge impact on Rumi, especially on her soul.
After the incident under the tree, Celine is devastated, because she had failed Rumi. Rumi, who was her ward, her only family after Miyeong died, her daughter.
Meanwhile, in the demon realm, Rumi is trying to hold on to the happier memories of her soulmates friends and her eomma Celine. But it is not easy when you've made a soul barrier with them, and choose to forget them willingly because you do not want the demon king to corrupt the only light in your life.
Only a handful of memories are used by Gwi-Ma to break her down. Zoey and Mira pointing their weapons. Zoey saying they can't be together if they can't tell her lies from her truths. Mira saying that it was too good to be true. When Celine pointed her sickle at Rumi, after feeling a demonic presence behind her under the hunter's tree. The one time Celine was making a much younger Rumi breakfast on her birthday, only to point a knife at her when she saw the purple patterns on her exposed arm when Rumi tried to sneak up on her...Gwi-Ma twists them to his will, making those memories near impossible to bear when accompanied by the pain of scorching flames enveloping you.
Needless to say, my brain will not stop overthinking and make things complicated and angsty...I will not stop making them suffer. The blender exists for a reason....
I dunno if anyone's thought about this or done this before so Imma ramble:

Had to share this cuz it has been on my mind for 3 days...I still need to fill in some gaps tho.
I sent this as an ask to a blog where I found excellent AUs and even interacted with them (just once...cuz I'm shy af). It's my first time thinking about an AU on my own (and taking inspiration from a lot of other AUs).
I have named this AU as 'Soul Barrier AU'...
