Plot holes aside it's really fucked up to think that Barthelemy poisoned a Queen (on top of other things) just to get the throne for himself. This chapter just read stupid to me 😅 I don't know how 'archaic' Cordonia's laws are, there is no way another person would be accepted as representative of a Great House at the very last minute to vote on something of national consequence while everyone knows that Olivia is very much breathing and kicking. What if she was just running late? She just doesn't get to vote because they found a relative of hers in prison to cast a vote in her place?

Also if we follow this logic then they should have just knocked out Adelaide then asked Madeleine to vote on behalf of her House. It doesn't make sense, and Cordonian laws being archaic doesn't excuse this silliness.
