Quality Check (measurement), Packing and labelling on Sampling Clothing
I was involved in doing sampling clothing’s measurement taking and then labelling these samples before we arranged to send to the users at Parkway Pantai. I felt that there was lot of manual tasks in fashion industry, from design to sample making to QC and labelling and packing before it reached customers.
Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) - Tie and Scarf Designs
Reflection - SNOC’s design
I was task to design some patterns for SNOC’s Tie and ladies’ Scarf. Here is some of the design that I have done. As the requirement was not very clear. I started using last SNOC color theme which was the color theme for Singapore National Olympic design. Remove those sports icon that are not for this year. However, the boss of ESTA felt that this color is too dark for Summer event and wanted a light tone color. Hence, I have redo with a little blue shape and tint. The whole process is quite slow and a bit frustrated due to the computer lagging and takes a long while to make changes and save. There was too many icon, logos and tagline on top of those new design patterns.

Unfortunately the National Olympic was postponed.
Co-Art Flow Reflection 2 - Strategy Plan for Co-ArtFlow Business Services
Reflection on the Services Plan
I am quite sceptical, especially at night... worrying if what l want to do and the products that we intend to provide, will they works... because there are thousands of design house and how of free design pictures / designs in Pinterest and IG.. why will people want to buy those digital photos or artwork that I created. Are we going down the right path?
That keeps my mind thinking how I shall position my service in design.
Is the same thought that I ponder over whenever I'm sketching and designing ... why would others want to buy those clothing that I design and made...
I am also thinking why some people could just start a business and continue for 30 years by just making and selling dumplings .. dumplings are so common too... but they make it work for 30 years.
With this encouragement, i believe as long as we put our heart and effort into creating new techniques or design and stand out from our USP - uniqueness.. we should be able to succeed, isn't it?
A tagline that say, “If we don't try and do, we will never know if we can succeed.”
Co-Art Flow Reflection 1 - Modelling
I have never been taught or experienced in modelling before. However, with this personal modelling experience, I can better experience and understand those models better; able to coach those inexperience model like normal person who has no modelling experience on the modelling poses. I will be able to appreciate the appearance, aesthetic and how to capture and reflect the look in photographic.
I started with no idea what to do and how to pose. Trying to figure out with my freelance friend on different ideas and was glad that we had some good photographs.
I am also amazed that some of the poses that I have done subconsciously, are exactly those art poses that I fancy or appreciate, which I have seen before in magazines or in graphic design.
That leads me to believe that when we unconsciously let our subconscious mind (what we believe in and like much) lead the way, and our thoughts and action will just reflect what is in the subconscious and turn out to be real and exact what we want it to be.
So we shall have faith in what we believe and remain positive which is very important for our subconscious mind and it is more powerful than our conscious mind.
Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC)
Reflection - SNOC
I have helped to amend and re-drew the technical flat for SNOC’s jacket that will be used as a tech spec for sample making.
The requirement was to remove the lining and just done with a semi -facing with fabric bias cut taping as finishing as per illustration.
Being mentally unsatisfied with what’s going on in the company while I am doing attachment with ESTA.
I could often hear arguments within staffs and I was attached to someone twice younger than me and with just 6months of experience from Diploma … Omg … she couldn’t identify the wrong and right side of the fabric and cut the fabric on the wrong selvage. 😅
I was too busy to check and lucky she went to verify with the fabric maker auntie before she sent the fabric for embroidery. By one look I could have spot her mistake and yet she didn’t even know that. 🤣🤣🤣
What I learned is that not everyone who so-called designer knows what they are doing and we have to also keep an open mind to hear out even those lower education aunties who do their jobs well.
Looking for fabric to do the binding of the jacket’s semi -facing, using fabric satin instead of bias cut taping.
Past years SNOC Jacket with full lining. As it will be summer in Japan for NOC, so they will like to change to semi-lining Jacket design.
Reference on the semi-facing lining.

Finally the sampling of the SNOC Jacket is done. Unfortunately, this year National Olympic has been postponed due to the Convid-19 pandemic situation.
Reflection 3 - Denim Wash
I learned that there is this challenge when working on uniform requirements, 1. Customer will like to request for restocking or use back the same color code for another set of design but didn’t know the right color code. Hence, it is difficult to communicate with the supplier on the dyeing color, as we do not know which Pantone color-coding that they are using in the past. To solve the issue we asked the supplier to send us different kinds of wash, and no. of wash samples for us to select from. I google the different type of denim wash and find this article quite useful https://www.burton.co.uk/blog/denim-washes-and-finishes/ 2. Another challenge that we faced is due to language communication issue as most fabric suppliers don’t speak in English, you need to communicate with them in Cantonese or Chinese. 3. Customer requests for sustainable fabric but not able to accept the price range

Refection 2
In the product development department, I was involved in sending out products for mockup design base on users’ requirements. Looking for an embroidery supplier to do embroidery for the SNOC logo on the jacket before get the inhouse seamstress to sew the jacket. I learned that we can use lining fabric as bias tape for finishing.
For embroidery supplier: Adrian Koh (Stitch & Print) [email protected]
There is another project with SJI institution, they require us to make a jacket and Polo- Tee for them but their requirements are to use sustainable fabric to make the garment. Hence, I spent time doing research on the existing suppliers to find out which suppliers can provide sustainability fabric. Here are some of the companies that I research on:
1. Toray: https://www.toray.com/sustainability/vision/
2. Futex: http://www.yct.com.hk/%e6%b7%b1%e5%9c%b3%e6%9c%8d%e8%a3%9d%e5%b1%95%e6%9c%832017-2/
3. Gistex: http://www.gistexgroup.com/pages/index.php?hal=environment & http://www.gistexgroup.com/pages/index.php?hal=detailArticles&pick=4
4. Goodonyou: https://goodonyou.eco/most-sustainable-fabrics/
Week 1
The company’s business was affected by the conorovirus -19 pandemic, many uniforms projects are put on-hold. Esther, CEO of the company decided to open her seamstresses service to the public. Hence, I helped her to come out with the alternation service price list as shown here. As a designer, I learned about the business pricing to alter a garment.
Latest update.
Week 1
I have helped ESTA to create this sizing labeling form for them to use as the standard template. I learned that male has a more different range of size spec compare to female’s size range and male’s pant size is based on their waistline’s width.
Start of the Internship
As I will like to gain working experience as a fashion designer, my learning proposal for my internship is looking at gaining working experience in the product development department of ESTA and then join another freelancer to focus on Photography, modeling, styling and Graphic Design.
