“Oh shit,” Felix said under his breath as Freddie walked into the diner.

"And then you said you thought I’d prefer to be between someone’s sheets." She rolled her eyes and pushed the rest of her salad away from her. Wiping her hands, she moved to stand, finished with the conversation, "Thanks for lunch, Felix. I’ll see you around."
As she began to leave, Felix threw his hands up in surrender. “Okay. Okay. I’ll stop. I’m sorry,” he said. “Please stay and finish your lunch. I’ll shut up. In fact I’ll leave if you want me to.”
23mayor-davenport:
Parker nodded, looking sternly at Felix for a moment. “Yes, we all are, isn’t that the truth.” He gave his assistant a little smile, then skimmed through them all and signed them at the bottom. They weren’t anything spectacularly important so his rapt attention was not needed. He looked up. “I don’t think I want to take the rest of the day off. I haven’t seen Kat around and I don’t want to see Stella. But thank you.” He focused his attention on the younger man for a moment. “Something been on your mind?”
Felix just looked at his boss with a face as blank as paper, but offered him up a smile when he replied and did the same. “Well you are the boss, sir. You can do whatever you like.” Felix extended a hand to take the papers, but didn’t want to just grab for them, that was rude. “Not at all, Mr. Davenport. Do I look like there is something on my mind?” Felix always had something on his mind. His brother, his growing infatuation with his boss’s daugter, and his suppression of criminal urges. But secret keeping was part of his job, and he was good at it.
Parker’s brow furrowed a bit a the mention of his daughter — he didn’t know why, but Felix bringing her up like that made him a little curious and slightly unsettled. “Mm… and how did she seem to be doing?” He asked, being nosy. “Absolutely, give them here and I’ll give them a read.”
"She seems good, sir. Keeping herself busy with work, but aren't we all." Felix put his phone away, and went to get the papers from his desk, then brought them back in for Parker to sign. "Here you go, sir. You could even take the rest of the day off. I can take messages and forward important calls to your cell, if you want."
"Stop thinking about me in someone’s bed," she demanded gently, glaring at him, "I hardly think Daddy would be happy to hear you talk to me like that, Felix."
"Again, I said back of a bike," he held up his hands in surrender. "If you don't tell him how I speak, then I won't tell him you were at the party." Felix could definitely be a conniving little shit when he wanted, but he would never betray Josie's trust.
"Uhha," she said distractedly, making a mental note to talk to one of the crow eaters when they next came in to the salon. She furrowed her brow, "Rolling around with a King? Way to make it sound like I’m opening my legs to them, Felix."
"I meant on the back of a bike, but you taking it that way only makes me think you'd rather it be under some sheets," he shot her a dastardly grin.
"Really?" she asked, the prospect of going to more parties even if uninvited oddly thrilling Josie, "Interesting." taking a sip of her drink, she laughed, "How would it be giving you more work, Felix?"
"I'd guess, but I wouldn't take my word as gospel on it or anything. I'm not a part of that world." A fact he thought about now almost on a regular basis. "I'm not just your dad's assistant, I'm also a publicist. How am I supposed to spin the mayor's daughter rolling around with a King?"
Josie pouted as if upset she had wounded him, her face breaking into a smile as the waitress brought her salad, “Maybe,” she nodded, “If I get invited again, that is. Some of the girls who go there invited me, I’m not going to just show up, that’s weird, isn’t it?” She laughed a little, tucking her hair behind her ears as she began to eat, “I highly doubt that’ll happen, Felix. Could you imagine what daddy would say if I began seeing someone from the club?”
Felix chuckled at the fake pouty face she pulled. "I don't think the guys much care where the girls come from, just as long as they are there," he noted then took a bite of his sandwich so she wouldn't feel like he was watching her eat. "He'd probably be upset, but if anything you'd just be giving me more work to do."
"Only in your dreams, I’m sure," she raised a challenging eyebrow. Josie wanted to ask when the last time he had spoken to his brother was, but she knew it wasn’t her place to do so. Running her hand through her hair, she smiled faintly, "I had fun," she nodded, "A lot of fun and I only had to spend five bucks on booze."
"Ouch, harsh," he brought his hand up over his heart. "Seems like a good deal," he nodded. "They'll probably be seeing your face at every shin-dig then. Maybe someone'll take a liking to you and you'll be an old lady soon." The thought made his stomach turn. Felix knew all too well how things like that worked at the clubhouse. He was the product of it.
She sent a playful glare his way, rolling her eyes, “I don’t need to know what S&M you’re into, Felix,” she spoke, looking up at him as he asked of his brother. She wished she could tell him that yes, she had seen him and he was doing fine, but she wasn’t going to lie to him, “No… I got a bit distracted, I didn’t see him.”
"You aren't a little bit curious?" he grinned teasing her some more. He figured her answer would have been what it was, but it didn't hurt any less that he had to keep going on with no updates on his twin. Either way he kept his emotions off his face. "That's ok. As long as you had fun." He bit back the urge to ask who the distraction was.
Josie leaned a little closer to Felix, “If I find out you told him, Felix, I will strangle you,” she spoke gently, “Yes, I was there.” She trusted Felix enough, but she was still worried about Parker finding out she had lied to him.
"You promise," he winked, a breath of a laugh escaping. When she confirmed it though he fell more serious. "Did you see Freddie at all?" It was a big party, so even though Felix knew he'd have been there, her answer was likely to be no.
Parker looked up from his paperwork. “Hm? Yes, Felix, I did, thank you. Did you enjoy yours?” He tilted his head curiously. “What’s on the books for today?”
"Yes I did. I ran into your daughter, actuallly." Felix walked over to the filing cabinet and put a few papers away, then went pulled out his phone to look at the rest of the day's schedule. "It seems everything big was done this morning. I just have a few things you need to sign now."
Josie stiffened a little as he asked if she’d attended the party, not wanting to tell him the truth in case he told Parker, “What party?” she asked innocently, “That one that the Kings hosted? Of course not.”
"Yeah that one," he clarified. Of course he cared if she'd gone to hang with the bad boys, but he was more hoping she'd have info for him on his brother. "I know you don't pass up a party Jos, and you don't have to worry, I won't tell your dad. I know how to keep a secret." It was a major part of his job.
"Did you enjoy your lunch, sir?" Felix asked as Parker walked into the office.

"Jerk," she spoke as she swallowed the bite, crossing her arms over her chest. A smile came to her lips as he offered to buy her lunch and, as a waitress passed, she ordered a Caesar salad and pineapple juice, "Daddy knows how to make you work for your wage," she joked, "I’m going okay. Working a little, hanging out with people a little. The usual."
He smiled at the waitress and told her to put Josies order on his bill. "I earn every penny that's for sure," he smiled. "That's good. Did you go to the party the other night?" He was curious is she'd seen Freddie.
As he nodded, Josie grinned, taking the card the moment it was offered to her, “You’re the best,” she spoke, tucking the card in the back pocket of her jeans, “By the end of the day, yes Sir.” She lent over, grabbing half of his sandwich and taking a bite, placing it back on his plate and chewing before speaking again, “How’re you? How’s working for Daddy going?”
"Mooch," he chuckled as she ate some of lunch. "If you want something go ahead and order. My treat," he said and took another drink. "I'm alright. It keeps me busy. What about you? What've you been up to?"
Crossing one leg over the other, Josie eyed him for a moment, “You’re not risking your job,” she insisted gently, “You’re giving the girl your boss adores money to fix her car because she doesn’t get paid until tomorrow,” Josie explained, “Someone fixed my car yesterday and I want to go back and pay him. You’d be in Dad’s good books if you made me happy, Felix.”
He thought it over for a moment then gave a nod. Reaching into his back pocket Felix pulled out his wallet then produced the card. He held it out to her but then pulled it back for a moment. "I'll need it back soon. Preferably by the end of the day."
