[Hope you feel better soon, darling!] I just recently opened up an oc city rp but I'm having issues gathering people's attention and receiving apps. Do you have any advice maybe on how to attract more attention to the group?

thanks for the well wishes, sweetheart! i had better start feeling well again soon or i’m going to write a letter of complaint to whoever gave me this shitty immune system. aNYWAYS, on with your question: 

firstly i’d ask around for opinions on how you’ve laid out your theme and plot, find out what people think of as the most aesthetically pleasing (because let’s face it, tumblr is a hoe for good aesthetics) and make sure that your plot is easy to understand but also exciting at the same time. you’ll probably want to have some sort of twist that makes you different from the other oc roleplays, because there’s a hell of a lot of them. 

secondly you should promo the living heck out of your group! get shoutouts from your favourite rphs, design some neat ass eye catching graphics that really draw people in, make character edits for the people in your rp, encourage drabbles and self paras, maybe even make yourself an rp playlist for that extra lil something! spread the word as well as you can, basically, and try and keep the rp as active as possible, encourage people to make their own stuff and have a separate tag for it that applicants can browse through. oc roleplays always promise to be great places for character development--- so prove that yours is. 

and thirdly, most IMPORTANT of all: be enthusiastic and excited about your rp and the players in it, even on the slow days make sure to remind yourself of why you made it in the first place. nothing draws me to an rp quite like seeing a dedicated admin who seems to really love what they do.

Hey! We’re a brand new Veronica Mars themed Town RP! Anyone can join, since there are no real ties to the show! Watched Veronica Mars or not, you’ll still be able to enjoy our plot and characters! That being said, we’d love a chance to get your opinion!

i have absolutely no idea what veronica mars even is (am i missing out?), but i’ll do my best! under the cut are my opinions, and feel free to message me if you want this post taken down or anything in it discussed further.

theme & graphics: i think most of your theme is really great, and the idea is stellar, but the camera thing on your header is irking me a little because the gifs inside it are all different quality. i’m just a bit nit picky about that sort of thing, i’m sorry. it’s a really cool idea but just yeah, maybe try and get some better gifs. your character graphics are awesome! 

content & plot: your plot looks pretty damn great, i love me a good murder mystery. and i like how you’ve summarized it at the bottom too, short and snappy and very attention grabbing. the first thing i noticed when going to look at your character bios is that you don’t seem to have a section for non binary characters, and for the sake of diversity and representation i really think you should make one. you’ve got some long ass bios, which is always nice to see, it really shows how much time and care you’ve put into making the rp, you know? instead of integrating all of the information into the biographies though i would maybe make sections so that it’s easier for people to read through it for quick reference too. for instance having a portion at the end for the character connections and personality traits. 

application: it all looks pretty good to me! if i were you i’d also maybe have a small section for headcanons and stuff like that, just so you can really see if the applier is right for the character that they’re applying for (you can’t always tell with para samples). i also like that you ask in the oc app if you can keep the bios of ocs that leave! nothing is more aggravating than an rp that keeps a character that’s yours and that you’ve worked hard on without your permission, so kudos to you! 

general: needs some work/ going nicely/ would recommend/fucking amazing/ if i had the time i would want to join

( drink lots of tea ! ) i have a small question: i've been toying with the idea of making a post-apocalyptic/dystopian sort of roleplay, but i'm not sure if i should make it entirely oc or have some kind of base for the charas ( skeleton style ) ? what would you do ? thank u very much !!

tiny cupcake oh my god you’re the cutest! and thank you very much for the advice i’ll be sure to up my tea intake!! mmm dystopian roleplays are my favourite, i hope the making of this rp goes well for you, doll. what i would do is make skeleton bios for a handful of characters so like a lil character aesthetic maybe based on an archetype each and with a little bit of history in there? ( because all too often with apocalyptic rps you see the same sort of backstory being used over and over in ocs and this way you’ll be guaranteed to get a wider range of characters, which will help you move the plot along. ) that being said though you should definitely have some oc slots open as well as having skeleton bios. just let me know if you’d like help with anything else, and again good luck!

theme & graphics: oh goodness your theme is lovely and so eye catching as well as being easy to read and to navigate! it really draws you in and gives you an idea of the aesthetic and vibe you’re going for, and just from your graphics and general look of your roleplay i’m already getting interested in it. you did a brilliant job on all this! i especially love the scroll bar at the top that gives updates, and the fact that your bio graphics include three faceclaims instead of just one in case someone wants a change. that’s going to make life a lot easier for you when you start accepting. 

content & plot: i was actually really surprised to read your plot because due to the name of your rp i thought that you were going to base your plot around royals and all that. it was a good surprise though because i love your plot! so long as you make sure your promos state specifically what your roleplay is about i don’t think the ambiguity of your url should be a problem, just make sure you’ve got that down and you should be fine. i love how much detail you put into everything-- from the bios, the plot and the additional information like the powers page and locations. it’s also really neat that you have a wanted connections page too! even after just a quick browse of this rp you can see just how much time and effort you’ve put into making it, and i think that’s absolutely fantastic. 

application: i like that you include a section for headcanons, which i find always helps when applying to any rp, because you can only really tell if you know a character when you get into that sort of headspace to try and figure them out. i also like that you left the option of writing an IC para sample up to the applier. it’s good, it’s simple (unlike most bio rps, which discourages people from applying) and all in all i think you should do very well!

you can indeed get an opinion sweethearts, sorry this is so late-- i’ve not been feeling very well recently. under the cut are my opinions, and as ever if you would like anything taken down or discussed feel free to pop me a message. 

theme & graphics: nice simple themes that are easy to navigate are my favourite, and yours seems pretty chic as well as being simple, which is very pleasing to look at. your graphics and general layout reflect this too-- very minimalistic, which isn’t a bad thing at all! to be perfectly honest, i think more rps should take a leaf out of your book. you’ve focused on what’s important, which is the content, and let it speak for itself rather than dressing it up in fancy graphics that are hard to read. 

content & plot: again you’ve gone very simple with your plot, so i don’t have all that much to say about it except that you’ve written it out well. your characters also seem really cool-- i like how you seem to leave most of the development up to the applier and just give them the label to work with, although maybe adding in a bit more detail about what you want could be useful? just a few plus and negative traits of each or something along those lines? 

application: your app fits your rp perfectly. it’s not so bare that just about anyone can join, and it gives people a space to write out some character development points. all in all you’ve created an rp that seems very welcoming and non exclusive, which is a vibe not a lot of places have nowadays. it looks great!
