If this is weird and you donāt wanna answer I get it, but I see a lot of people saying that they would treat the only girl on the island like the pig. Iām curious what you think would happen if there was only one girl on the island. And what would you do if you were her? How is the best way to survive if this is too graphic or anything like that please ignore this. I love your work so much but if this is too much please I completely understand.
tw: discussion of sexual violence, misogyny.
just a disclaimer - this is NOT meant to be interpreted as any kind of content for self insert or Y/N or anything like that!
it's just based off how william golding spoke about hypothetical scenario of girls on the island and 1950's society.
it is just how i think it would've been written considering the context and the author's views on women.
i do not agree with how william golding would've written women on the island.
well.... if there was only one girl on the island this would definitely fundamentally change the dynamics because she would unfortunately become political whether she liked it or not.
at the very start, i think a lot of the boys would be very embarrassed being around a girl - remembering that this is the 1950s upper class we are talking about where they were sent to all boys schools and gender was heavily segregated.
i definitely think they would be a bit mean to her, just general teasing though at the start. i also think the childcare would be put onto her.
as for the characters, i can definitely see ralph being very chivalrous. ralph represents civilisation (generally that's the general symbolism gist of him), and one of the biggest aspect of the civilised man in the 1950s was to be chivalrous!
jack is interesting because at the start I can see him being chivalrous, remember he's a choir boy and in the 1950s choir boys were "the peak of civilisation"
i definitely think basing on how mr golding spoke about girls on the island, i think there would probably be a bit of competition between jack and ralph, however it wouldn't be anything extreme at first, more just probably trying to impress her.
i think her treatment depends on who she aligns with after the schism. if she were to align with jack, i think she would probably be okay if she unanimously agreed with him
i can definitely see him treating her more like a prize and maybe calling her his queen, i think in order to fit into that society she would have to accept a more decorative role than an autonomous role
however, if she aligns with ralph, i think it is plausible to say that she would experience violence - william golding's writing often correlated sexuality and violence, so i can definitely buy the ideas of the boys treating her with sexual violence.
i think she would probably be taken prisoner at the end, maybe when they stole piggy's glasses or when they torture samneric.
personally, i don't think william golding would write a full scene of it - he generally keeps violence very implied - but I definitely think sexual violence would be implied...
i imagine that it would be roger doing this, as in other writings and letters roger is usually the culprit of all the depravity on the island
to sum that up, if she aligned with jack she would be his private property, however if she aligned with ralph following an abduction she would become public property of the tribe ļæ¼
as for the best way to survive, i'm really sorry but i don't know š
because we don't know how they would treat women, this concept is merely speculative and for all i know mr golding would actually write them to do other stuff i don't know...
ANYWAYS, i will repeat it again - i do not agree with this!!!!
it's just how I think they would've been written based on writings and notes from his manuscript, letters et cetera.
this is NOT intended to sexualize these characters, nor is it meant to be read through any lens that romanticizes or encourages these behaviors
I couldn't be bothered to draw full body I loved drawing roger and jack's paint too muchš I planned on giving them more accessories but I didn't know what to add other than pig skin pelts and necklaces
Name hcs for thwmš
Roger --- Rose
Jack --- Jacqueline
Ralph --- Ruth
Piggy stays the sameLOL but her real name is poppy
I canāt lie I prefer the name āNicholasā quite a bit over āPeterā for Piggyā¦
I understand that Peter has been THE fanon name for the longest time now and a lot of people have grown attached to it, but I just find it a little boring. I get why it was chosen and Itās still good name, still Piggy-like!
Iām not a big fan of the BBC show giving Piggy a name, but I do think Nicholas is a very fitting name for him. Mostly I really like the nickname Nicky, Itās very cute to me.
Little headcanon ramble about that⦠This is probably the main reason I really like the name Nicholas.
I can totally see his auntie calling him Nicky, his classmates bullying him for it, and then Nicky morphing into Piggy. It would be especially disheartening to Piggy because heās fond of his nickname, as it reminds him of his auntie and parents. I feel like heād slowly start to associate āNickyā with all the negativity around the name āPiggyā and grow underlying resentment towards it. Maybe if heād gotten to his later teens he wouldāve completely dropped the nickname.
(Kind of inspired by the fact Piggy is prideful of his quirks but theyāre often the things he is ostracized for)
Hot take (or maybe even warm take idk) but if a canonically poc character gets turned white in either the fandom space or in an adaptation I WILL be angry about it. But if a canonically white character gets turned poc in either the fandom space or an adaptation I genuinely wouldnāt care and I would actually be more happy than sad or angry because like who even gaf

UM KINDA OF A SUMMARY OF HER I GUESS IDK
Alice is a thin British girl with an āange
Relationships: Iāve talked about this topic in my first post, mostly about her strongest relationship with Ralph and how he struggled to see her past her gender, but I think I failed to mention more of their relationship in the earlier stages. Before, Ralph relied on Alice for emotional stability and to be his anchor. (If you want more info on that, read my other post about Alice! š) Their relationship was quite awkward at first. Iāve stated that Ralph had your typical āschool boyā crush on Alice and how this could make him feel very shy or awkward around Alice, making him be more dismissive of her. Kind of giving Alice the āyou just sit there and look pretty!ā treatment. I also think Ralph would tease her a bit. Not like how Piggy was teased, but more of a playful way to make himself more charming. I also want to mention that I leave a lot of what type of relationship they are up to interpretation. I think Ralph, despite not really respecting Alice, still made an effort for her to like him. Whether itās romantic, platonic, or psychological, all of those answers are/can be correct! I also thought it would help Alice feel more like her own person outside of Ralph.
Now I wanna talk more about her relationship with Jack because I left a lot of empty room. (And my brain melts anytime I write about that little pos) Now Iāve stated they share a mutual dislike for each other, but earlier in their relationship it wasnāt as bad, more passive-aggressive. Now thereās no real reason why they were hostile towards each other. I think thereās a lot of factors like Jack being unlikable, losing the ācharisma contestā to Ralph, being unattractive, or even what Alice heard from what Simon said about him. Now I wanna add, similar to Ralph, that Jack would also probably tease Alice, but instead of it being playful or charming like Ralph does. It would probably have an undertone of misogyny or even violence. I donāt think Jack and Alice could ever truly get along, not because they argue a lot but because Jack finds Aliceās femininity a threat, while Alice thinks Jack is sinful and gluttonous.
Onto the other 2 relationships I didnāt touch on š„² is Piggy and Simon.
Starting with Simon, as this might have been her second-closest relationship. I mentioned how they were pretty good friends and enjoyed each other's company! Probably because of the gentle worldview they shared. I like to think they became friends through being outcasts. No one listened to Simon, and Alice was always being dismissed. A big reason why I think Alice would like him so much is that Simon is physically and socially weaker than her. So I imagine Alice can be more at peace and still share her view on things. Now I doubt Alice had much of an understanding for Simon as he did for her. She found what he said strange but amusing. Even going so far as to call him a āTeddy bear with a voice box,ā which can be interpreted as a selfish gesture from Alice. While Simon is connected due to her āangelic presence,ā as he claims. Now this could mean a couple of things. This could be what he hallucinates, seeing Alice as this angelic type of person, or because of the concern she shows for him during his faints or episodes. I think you can imagine how crushed Alice was when Simon died. So much guilt would wash over her, to the point where I think the constant shift from selfish to empathetic in her personality would spiral even more.
Now onto Piggy, I honestly believe they would have the most average relationship ever. Like, they werenāt exactly friends, but I donāt see them having any big issues with each other. I think Alice would find him obnoxious and embarrassing for his strict behavior on rules sometimes and laugh with the others when they called him names, but she would never go out of her way to bully him. Piggy probably wouldnāt go out of his way for her either. They would be more like acquaintances than friends. Only when Piggy dies does Alice feel true sympathy for Piggy and fear of the hunters, as they sealed his fate.
Speaking of fate, letās talk about Aliceās fate!!
Aliceās fate- Iāve had a lot of thought on whether I wanted Alice to survive or not, but ultimately I decided that š„š„ drumroll š„š„she would survive. (barley) When Ralphās tribe goes to retrieve Piggyās glasses. This would end in Piggyās death and Samneric getting taken prisoner. Alice would follow quickly after, with Jack pulling her back by her hair and using brute force and violence to take her prisoner as she tries to resist and cry out to Ralph for help. Ralph is forced to retreat but will soon return when he talks to Samneric. And when he does, Alice quietly sneaks out of the cave to speak to Ralph as well. With bruises, cuts, and puffy eyes, Alice quickly asks Ralph to take her with him. Ralph happily agrees as he gets back his emotional anchor and an ally and pulls her towards him as they both tumble over each other into the woods. If you remember the flower that Ralph gifted her in my first post, where he promised to be a good chief and protect, well, that hibiscus flower is nothing more than a few dead petals stuck in Aliceās hair. Showing that Ralph failed to keep his promise and that their relationship turned from a āprettyā tie between the two into a deep, intense traumatic experience.
As the hunters smoke out Ralph and Alice, they split up, running in completely different directions, with their last will to survive till Ralph meets the naval officer. As he criticizes all the boys for not putting on a better show, Alice drops down onto the floor with Ralph and the hunters. The officerās eyes widen, and his mouth goes agape as he begins to criticize her even harder because of how deeply disappointing it is to see a young girl fall into this savagery. Alice falls to her knees, wailing into her hands, with Ralph and the others following suit.
AND THATāS ALL!!

Comments, questions, concerns, or if you think I did something ooc for the original characters. stop fucking saying the same bullshit bare bones ass "racism is bad!" statement in this fandom. no not just poc in general are being harassed and yes whitewashing is bad but lets focus on whats actually most important. you cannot deal with the blatant anti-black language and biases that MANY people still use and have here without caring and then get surprised when its called out. you cannot see black people in this fandom be harassed and then generalize them as "Poc." it is not poc, it is one fucking race. black people have and continue to have the worst experiences in fandoms like these. genuinely i consider leaving this fandom because of how ignorant and bigoted you all are. this fandom as a collective knows that its racist and that its always been yet none of you actually make an effort to change that. preaching that simon and roger are not white is not going to change how this fandom is. you have to actually speak up because i know that when we do we're talking to a wall. we've been saying the same fucking things over and over again and no one listens but the moment a non-black person says "i dont think racism is very cool guys" suddenly you all agree. racism is not excused if you are poc. anti-blackness is not excused if you are poc. we are not the same. we do not share the same trauma and experiences. just because you are oppressed too does not mean you have the right to be racist. i dont care.
Lotf fandom the racism and anti blackness isn't just a thing that affects characters from a book, there's actual teenagers behind the screens running blogs that are being targeted, bullied, and hurt by it. What kind of support is this fandom providing if the same people calling themselves allies still interact with despicable confessions, the blog that perpetuates racism and gave a platform for people who want to spread hate. If we really want the fandom to do better, we ALL need to listen when people speak up about the racism and hate they face, lift up their voices instead of trying to argue and "disprove" their experiences, because the rampant racism and antiblackness IS that bad in this fandom. I promise you the hurt being felt by black people here is indisputably more important than how badly you want a caracters hair colour to be blond. Some people in this fandom want an exclusive space filled with only white people and that filthy and disgusting. Dont just ignore those people and look the other way, there is no room for hateful people like them here. And lastly, there are many black people in this fandom that have been speaking about these issues before me, and their voices matter way more here, so please go listen to what they have to say and take their experiences seriously
