The order was barely more than a whisper over the voices filling the room, yet it froze her in her tracks. She wanted to turn her head. Nothing. She wanted to frown at being interrupted. Nothing. She wanted to shift her gaze to the side. Nothing. She wanted to respond to the confusion on her friends' faces.
Nothing.
"I'm sorry, I completely forgot we've got an appointment. Sorry, folks. Gotta run. No, really. Sorry, Tom. I'll make it up to you next time, okay? This is important."
A hand wrapped around hers. She could do nothing.
"We're leaving."
Motion returned and was further out of reach than ever. She observed as her body swiftly rose and followed the pull. It seemed to know what to do.
She didn't know why that meant sneaking out.
"Get in."
She could only watch as her body sank into the offered car seat as if it was the most natural thing to do.
It still felt that way when she walked through the door, pulled into the questionable privacy of the warm living room.
"Kneel."
There was no hesitation as this body that looked so much like hers dropped down, reverently hanging on to every word.
"You're mine."
Right. Of course. She would have breathed a sigh of relief if she had control over a body that could act on the thought.
"You gave your thoughts to me."
She had. Just like this thought was an offering on the altar of her submission.
"You look so pretty for me."
The praise stirred the precious feeling of butterflies in her stomach, even as the rough, resolute tone made her yearn to pose. To show off to her audience of one with nothing to distract her from her singular mission.
"I command. You obey."
The familiar ever-present chatter within her mind faded into obscurity. Every cell in her body turned towards the sole center of her world.
"Others may look. Only I may touch."
Nothing could have been more obvious. Yet to spell it out like this lit a fire within her that consumed every spark of thought, burned away every looming shadow of decisions to be made. To light a path free of the burden of free will.
"Hear just me."
Her skin felt hot as fingertips tenderly traced her ear on their way down her face.
"See only me."
She only realized she had cast her gaze down, fixed on the spot right between the polished shine of dark shoes, when the touch of a gentle, yet firm hand forced her to raise her head. She dared not to breathe, scared the sound alone may drive the fortune away that brought her here. Dared not to blink even as the lights painted the most dazzling scene of a mighty silhouette towering above her.
"And pray."
She wanted nothing else. Wanted to be nowhere else but right here. On the floor. Bowing. Chanting. There was no concern to the thud of a full handbag hitting the ground, or the clicking and rustling of its contents partially spilling. Not a moment's hesitation spared for the fancy party outfit she had fussed over for hours. Not a question in her mind about how she looked or what people could think. Because what could thought matter when she was granted the most sacred of privileges? Her lips moved. Vows of devotion and loyalty filled the air as much as her mind. They melted into babbles, but even a dim glint of embarrassment wasn't enough to stop her. The shame of kneeling at her deity's feet belonged to the busy teacher. The prim and proper daughter. Or the witty sociable party guest. But they all needed this and found peace when she stared up into those infinitely hypnotic eyes, becoming only a receptive vessel. More words carved away her will. None of them were for her to know, so she was happy to entrust herself to the process. And as her mouth began to repeat the orders in worship, she only felt pleasure to be shaped further in her deity's image.
