It sounded more to her that he’s never paid attention to women much. The blame probably goes to that of keeping focus on one’s duty but...

“Lesson number one: Never go by the book when it comes to trying to get to know another person. Number two: remain vigilant in your surroundings. Always expect eavesdroppers lurking somewhere. People do love gossip.”

Beatrix was especially aware of number two because of her own soldiers always finding time to gossip about what they’ve heard or seen that is irrelevant to their duties.

Her hand came up to touch where he had kissed as soon as he walked away. As affectionate as Steiner was showing himself, he also had... awkward ways of showing it too. But this time... it was subtle enough for her to accept it.

“...Carry on.” she murmured before turning to go on her own ways.

Beatrix was never really one to wear her emotions on her sleeves. Especially after hearing about how she was peeped on long ago. That’s all the past is: in history. So it wasn’t something she’d get worked over on.

Shock could be read in the knight’s eyes as beatrix stood before him.“Excuse me ? general ?! What are you trying to imply ? I have been patrolling the halls with my men all day long !” He was genuinely hurt that anyone would dare say such calomnious things about him.

“Is it zidane again, spreading rumors and the such ? Because if it’s so, i’ll give him a lesson he ain’t forgetting for staining my name in such ways !!!”

“Don’t think I haven’t noticed you peering in rooms to look at maids while they’re at work. And why is it that you always bring up Zidane? He’s changed his ways enough already...” It was almost funny, but at the same time... not really. But really, if he was going to continue to feign ignorance, then so be it.

“Bah…” Replied a fakely annoyed steiner, rolling his eyes. Beatrix, giving him a compliment ? Very unusual, to be quite honest.”They are an absolutly hopeless bunch, dear general. Even with all the good will in the world, only an actual BUDGET, could do anything to get it back together. I have seen some of my men with armors falling apart and fixing it with any kind scrap metal they could find and melt. My men are crafty, but still remain the history of the pluto knights, laughing stock of alexandria.” He closed his weary e yes for a moment.

“So, if helping me is truly your goal, starting by standing by my side and giving back the honor my blason I think deserves so much. Would be the only ways I could think of right now.” He spoke with his heart, and melancholy was showing.

She raised an eyebrow for a moment. What was this... Captain Steiner is actually asking her for help? She crossed her arms for a moment, thinking things over. It wasn’t every day where they actually spoke about things outside of the protection of Her Highness or even the Castle... Well actually, this conversation was definitely about the troops, even if it was just the Knights of Pluto.

Slowly, Beatrix shook her head. “You know as well as I that such honor does not come from me. It would be from the People of Alexandria.” She pointed out. As for the budget... “We don’t get that much either. You and the men really should know how to take better care of your armor, that’s all.” Still.. could she really leave it at that? Beatrix is quite aware that the men have done remarkable things. Shoot, it’s the captain who should receive the recognition more. All she’s ever done is all in the past.

Did you ever have the time to think that maybe the General might have wanted to hear your reasoning? She was simply moving on orders after all...

“I will remind you that amongst us at the time was freya; a few hours, days maybe, before, she had just witness HER PEOPLE , being litteraly murdered by beatrix and her men, under said orders.” He sighed.

“If beatrix wasn’t going to draw the first blood, Freya would have and the consequences would have ended up as equally disastrous for us either way…”

Alas.. those were the times before she had stopped to think for herself. Then again, Her Majesty had called for the use of the Black Mages rather than the General and her troops to march forward. It was due to the loss of numbers of Black Mages in the Grotto and at Burmecia that the Queen had ordered the General to send her troops in. While she never really questioned Her Majesty’s intention, she couldn’t exactly ignore rumors from among the guards. It was rather... mind-boggling to say the least.

Shoot, if she hadn’t heard Zidane ask her to state her sworn duty and to see what was happening to the Princess herself, she wouldn’t have mentioned the rumor either. It’s what had opened her eyes and made her regret so many sins that she had already committed. Especially to Burmecia and Cleyra. They might have been orders, but the General could have stopped it. She was the one who commanded the soldiers after all...

The hard working steiner eventually has to pay attention to beatrix, as much as he tried NOT TO. it was true she was agreable to look at , at this very moment, but.. He’d rather have all this blood back in his brain at the moment. Staying in control and cool was a thing a had always strive to better himself in. “I’m sorry, was I disturbing you?” would he asks between two push up.”I did not realise I was speaking this loud, beatrix..” then again…”With just the two of us, I can imagine the place would be rather silent, actually.”

Beatrix chuckled softly. Well indeed. Just the two of them along with the faint sound of music in the background so it wouldn’t be too quiet with just the sounds of machines.

“Just a tad.” she responded. “I didn’t realize you also come to this gym.” Or she would have looked into another one. Then again, this gym in particular has already accommodated quite enough equipment for everyone’s needs to exercise and not fall behind in terms of strength.
