Thoughts from a new vegetarian
âWhere do you get your protein?âÂ
Wow, were they not kidding that this would be the first thing out of everyoneâs mouth and that I would find it unfathomably annoying. Like, dude, maybe you should be more worried about that bacon burger killing you than whether Iâm reaching bodybuilder levels of protein intake.
âOh youâre vegetarian now?â
Yes, for a year, Iâve told you multiple times. Weâve cooked and eaten multiple meals together in which I prepared separate food. WHY ARE YOU NOT REMEMBERING?
âItâs okay, sheâs not a judgy one.â
Great, Iâll remember to police all my conversations so that I never levy the slightest criticism of your burger lest I damage your tenuous acceptance of vegetarianism.
âIâm so glad Iâm not a vegetarian.â *chomps on burger*
Iâm so glad you felt the need to rub that one in my face. Yeah, Iâd like to eat a burger too, but Iâm trying to stick to something here. Itâs just unnecessary to comment.

FUCK THIS
Its pretty incredible how accurate the science of astrophysics has gotten. New Horizons actually arrived 72 seconds early after travelling for almost 10 years straight to its destination.
Hello! The person who calculated the arrival time of New Horizons was Yanping Guo, mission design leader and one of the women who made up 25% of the New Horizons team. She configured the entire mission trajectory, including Jupiter and Pluto flybys.Â
Womenâs contribution to the sciences has a long history of being erased, so letâs not forget the women who made New Horizons possible!Â

this! it doesn't have to be big bad things either. we all know those friends/family/coworkers who keep calling you a nickname/tickling you/making "ironic" sexist jokes after you've told them you don't like it. people who try to get a rise out of others can step away, please.
'Wild' Is the Feminist Film of the Year:
I wrote about Wild, harassment & getting toddler boogers on myself while hitchhiking in Namibia.
Highlighting these elements of womenâs travel experience is not discouragement from seeking out solo adventure â Wild is nothing if not a celebration of womenâs personal strength â but rather an acknowledgement of the way women are sometimes forced to navigate a world that continues to peg them as less capable, and less fully human, than men.
Rather than admonishing women to be careful, Wild simply presents a peek into the female psyche at a moment when empathy for such a viewpoint is sorely lacking. To quote Strayedâs mother, it reminds audiences that women, too, deserve to move freely throughout the world and to put themselves âin the way of beautyâ â without being made to fear for their safety.
Dear Men,
If while in a public space you demand the attention of a woman unknown to you through any kind of sexually objectifying communication, non-verbal or otherwise, IT IS NOT A COMPLIMENT. IT IS HARASSMENT.
You are never entitled to a womanâs attention. Stop behaving like this. Stop letting other men behave like this. That is all.
This video inspired one of the most thought provoking comments I have read in a while. It has given me a lot to think about:
mirror_father_mirror @ The Billfold said:
"[...] Some of the most aggressive catcalls I got came when I was living or working in spaces that were on the edge of gentrification, and I was definitely aware that there are competing forms of privilege at work in these situations. Sometimes it seemed that the catcalls were ways for men without the racial or class privilege they perceived in me to call out my presence in their space with the only form of privilege they had left."
