my fixation on carmilla is frankly baffling because, usually, my other interests come and go, and i'll remember them again a couple years later. but this has just not gone away. i've never liked anything like i have this decade old webseries that's simultaneously the corniest piece of shit ever and a modern day classic. i'd ask what's so appealing about it, but the answer is obviously lesbian vampires and all the good parts of buffy. i'd ask what's so relatable about the title character, but the answer is obviously the emotional disaffection, feeling so much yet never being able to express it, and the resulting internal tug of war between the front they put on and their real self. i'd ask what's so compelling about hollstein, but the answer is obviously the irresistible connection brought forth by their circumstances, that tiny red string of fate that just won't seem to break no matter how much they or anyone else may tug on it, and thus only finding solace in each other as the world falls apart around them, every word, every glance, and every little thing they do just being some roundabout way of saying i love you. it's the sort of thing where, the moment you press play, you immediately understand why it had such a grip on its demographic. it's a chronically online lesbian circa 2015's wet dream
