while i do like the idea of the “big strong butch” trope that goes around here i can’t help but think about all the butches (and femmes) that don’t feel connected to the characteristics that are attributed to them on here.

being a strong butch shouldn’t always be physical. a strong butch can also be someone who carries themselves with pride even when they’re told to be less, to put themselves in a corner. a strong butch can be someone who deals with a disability or chronic pain but that still shows up for their community. it can be the closeted butches who push through and face their fears every single day.

i think we should all start to appreciate the people in our community for their emotional and mental strength too and not focus only on what they can offer you in terms of physical affection.

this is all to say, i love you all types of lesbian, you’re loved and appreciated just as you are.

I think one of the most important thing that someone can do as a queer person is connect to other queer people outside of romantic relationships.

My queer friends are the biggest gift on this earth, they bring me so much happiness and sunshine and have made me feel a lot more comfortable in my own identity just by being themselves. That is something I will never take for granted. Its genuinely such an amazing feeling finally having people you can relate to and who you can feel safe around without having to worry that they’re going to judge you.

As a Femme, especially speaking to other Femmes and Butches is magical because you realize that you finally found someone who gets you, someone who you don’t have to justify yourself to. Our community is build on a strong base of protecting and caring for eachother and we must never forget this. Butchfemme isn’t just romantic love, it is also platonic in the best ways possible. Finding these friendships is like a warm blanket being wrapped around you after a long time spend in the cold outside.

We as a community must treat eachother with respect, love and grace. The world may be cruel and scary but together we can make it a little less of these traits by embracing who we are loudly and proudly and standing up for those weaker than us. We have the power in us to bring joy and color into eachothers life and we should use it as best as we can.

We must never forget that in the end what remains is always always our community. ♡
