Help Queer Disabled Couple Stay Afloat

On August 12th, my partner and I were in a car crash that left us both [chronically injured] and cost us both the complete ability to work due to our injuries. Over a month later, both of us are still jobless and we do not know when we will have a source of income again. We have also not yet been financially compensated for our injuries in the crash.

We are both very disabled, very queer, and very poor, and we’re extremely anxious about getting bills paid and keeping our lives from utterly falling apart, all while still trying to recover from a crash that happened several weeks ago.

We are also being completely blamed for the accident, despite the fact that we were sandwiched between two other cars on the insterstate.

We are both feeling really, incredibly hopeless right now. We don’t know what else to do but ask for help.

i honestly don't think it gets talked enough about how gay men can have a very nuanced relationship with gender, complex genders, and "contradictory" identities a lot of the time. i think a identifying as a man only gets forced on to gay men a lot these days, but so many gays identify as nonbinary, transfem, women, bigender, genderfluid, genderqueer, gnc, a crossdresser, a lesbian, and many more things. i love you, gays with weird genders

someone at the anti carceral suicide training talked about how in order to be a therapist who actually supports your clients you have to be comfortable with breaking the law. Also, how important it is for therapists to understand that despite their individual values and the benefit they bring their clients, the whole system of psychiatry and therapy is entwined with incarceration, racism, and capitalism. And to actually confront that, therapists need to commit to breaking mandatory reporting laws and not incarcerate any of their clients.

And I’ve just been thinking about this all day, and how a lot of times therapy is presented as a neutral or inherently beneficial system when in truth it is often a system of violence. it’s been very powerful for me to be in these spaces with mental healthcare providers who are doing the work to figure out how to radically change the system.
