Once more, for the second consecutive year, we invite you to join the celebrations this month of October with 31 days of Solas x Rook-inspired fiction, art, and any creative medium your heart desires, following the Dreadtober 2026 Prompt Lists.
This year, as you can see in the edit above, we have a very special treat for Dreadrook appreciators. We decided there was no better way to announce the return of our cherished festivity of debauchery than through the many Rooks who grace us with their presence on The Lighthouse server.
Heartfelt thanks to everyone who lent us their beloved Rooks so that this creation could see the light of day! We promise they had A LOT of fun!
We wish you many inspired Dreadtober dreams, and as always, remember the regular guidelines: NSFW or not, mix and match the prompts, go wild, and let the Dreadwolf take you.

Rules
1. This is an event meant to celebrate the Rook and Solas ship and the community behind it. Even though the main focus of the event are Rook and Solas, other Dreadrook adjacent ships like Solrooklassan, Solrookvellan, etc. are allowed. Show us your polycules! Other ships may be mentioned, but in respect of the spirit of the event, do not forget that Rook and Solas must be central to your work.
2. Pick your prompt(s)! There are two prompts, general or NSFW for each day of the month. You may select or combine if you so desire.
3. All works should be new or posted for the first time after the event begins.
4. We do not condone use of generative AI in any way, shape or form. We want to see your creativity!
5. Make a Dreadrook inspired creation based on your choice(s). All mediums - art, fic, vids, gifs, game photography, mood boards, collages, edits - are welcome. Create what you love to create! You may submit multiple works (ex: one for each day) or combine them as you see fit. In case of combining prompts from different days, pick one prompt day to post your work!
6. Post your creation on the corresponding day and use the following tags: #Dreadtober2026 & #TheLighthouseServer, and @thelighthouse-server in your creation!
7. All fanfiction should be added to event collection on AO3, which will be open for submissions starting on October 1 st.
8. You do not need to participate on each day. This is for fun, igniting creativity, and community. Post what you want, what you can and when you can. Late submissions will still be accepted and promoted. Enjoy yourselves and support others!

A little fandom behavior rant because in the past month or so I have experienced some strange and quite upsetting things.
Well, tbh, I noticed them in a particular group for months, but they only got worse and weirder and now I finally add them up and am so angry at myself for not reacting in the moment, for not putting up boundaries and voicing my discomfort.
During my years in fandoms few things have disgusted me more than ownership of a canon character by one random person for reasons that should not set them apart from others who love x characters.
It may be very subtle and insidious, may make you second guess yourself and when you do voice that you will likely get gaslighted, but make no mistake, if you are new in a group and feel pushed away, talked over, have one self proclaimed queen bee flex at you for how well they know/write/represent x character, you are not crazy or paranoid and no, you do not have to meekly accept that nonsense. Speak out against it or leave that group because they will alienate you anyway.
There are so many others out there who will love your ideas and content. There’s no need to focus on those who want to stay in their little circles and think that others are a threat.
Offering support to others outside our circles grows fandoms, rather than seeing others who share your tastes as a threat to be pushed away.

okay not to ocpost again but the worst thing about having an oc is sometimes they become The Character to you. and you need to talk to someone about it like wow I can’t stop thinking about The Character… but in order to do so you have to like sit them down and explain everything about your oc first. and then it’s just you explaining your writing ideas. i need to talk about them the same way i would talk about any random character i love to someone.

solas is trapped. he's trapped in the regret prison. he is trapped with nothing but his regrets (in a way, it's an actualization of what he's gone through for so long, but that is, perhaps, its own post)
rook is the only person he sees. the only person he speaks with. the only person who is outside of himself and his memories. the only connection to a world he is cut off from. if memory serves, he mentions that even the spirits know certain things that are happening, and clearly he has some insight into the world, but it's never implied iirc that he's speaking with any of these spirits
no, it's just rook
in a way, it wouldn't matter who rook is. they are the only human (so to speak) connection solas is afforded. they are the only distraction from his psychological torture. they are the only disruption to utter, haunted isolation. and they are the only hope for his future, for his ability to escape this place
no matter who rook was, no matter what they thought of solas, no matter what they did, rook would be something special to solas. this is inevitable
he cares about them so, so much. he has to. they were his world, for a time. that's not even metaphorical, really: they were his entire world, the only evidence of a continued reality outside of his prison and his memories and the information he gets second-hand, information that he could easily come to doubt
isolation is a ripe field for paranoia, after all
rook embodies hope for so many people throughout the game, and they embody it for solas, too. it's no wonder he can't bring himself to kill them. they are his hope. his bridge. his reminder. his access. his grounding. his present. his future
Commissioning artists really makes you feel like a renaissance noble. Like you’ll get an email that just says “Hey sorry some things came up but I’m working on your piece and here’s a WIP” and suddenly you’re wearing sumptuous velvets and eating grapes on a reclining couch like “Ohoho! Take as long as you need, my Orpheus! My riches and time are a paltry price to pay to bring your beauty to the world! I am a ~Patron of the Arts!~”
