the deathstroke #6 preview is a mess (and i know the outcome but i'm keeping quiet) but this really irked me.

the concept of slade not being able to feel hurt/empathy if a loved one is hurt or in harms way until rose gets shot is ridiculous. grant's death impacted him GREATLY and his actions and who he eventually became were in response to his own grief in regards to his death which he feels somewhat responsible for. then jericho is a literal living reminder of his actions and even pride hurting the one's he loved.

and i want to say this isn't me trying to compare or debate which child he loves the most. he loves them ALL and has very different relationships with all of them. however i cannot act like rose's character hasn't relied too much on slade or how she's also been watered down (along with slade) in recent years.

it's already some bullshit that they had adeline shoot her eye out which ultimately absolves slade of any past wrongdoings or blatant abuse he subjected to rose. that in itself can be a whole nother story but to keep it on track ultimately we're in an era where both characters are not at their best.

however to try to imply or just straight up say that slade never knew real pain or hurt until it came to rose getting hurt really shows how they really weakened both characters in both ways. hell, the "girldadification" of deathstroke just truly might be the direct cause of this.

did adeline not groom slade when he was a teen in the army or am i genuinely crazy i feel like there was a comic with it but idk if it's even an actual thing or got retconned

this isn't me trying to hate its a genuine question because i wanna learn and don't want to have any misconceptions about characters n stuff

anyways to answer your question i feel like i should address this one thing. grooming has multiple meanings and has evolved over the years. you probably know this but you'd be surprised how some people don't and some are willfully ignorant about this concept. grooming is not always sexual and grooming can come in many forms.

that being said adeline did not groom slade as a teenager or sexually at that. slade joined the military at sixteen (later seventeen in rebirth) and didn't meet addie until he was a major. while he was obviously gifted and a great fighter he couldn't have become a major that fast lol also he didn't meet adeline the first year he joined. in fact if i'm not mistaken he met wintergreen before her. so they met when they were both consensual adults although i will admit there is an age gap.

also people will say they got married when he was 18. that's a damn lie.

i mentioned grooming earlier because while i said she didn't groom him sexually i WILL say she groomed him into the military industrial complex. while he didn't need her help to join as he chose to join due to his abusive home life she arguably did train him to be a better fighter. also, you could argue wintergreen also enabled some of these aspects.

i'm going to assume the reason why you feel this way is because of the out of context panel that floats around from the priest run where the riddler basically says "groomed him for genetic experimentation..." and ever since then people who are illiterate and have chip on their shoulder use that as their #1 source. this leads to a misconception that he didn't want to take the serum but literally in every iteration he willingly volunteered to take said serum.

so yes... adeline groomed him and so did the entire military. that being said no she isn't a pedo like certain people want you to believe. also, funny enough she's actually stated to be slade's junior in pre new 52. marv's misunderstanding of the military is a whole nother thing we can get into that also contributes to this convo lol.

will i say their relationship is perfect or healthy ? no. not at all. however people do tend to do a lot when it comes to them specifically adeline. i've seen people try to use her "grooming" him as to why he groomed a teenage girl (applies to before and after THAT retcon) when he was very much created specifically to be a villain and to play a part in the judas contract.

I love how fan artists get creative with alien humanoid characters. their original designs are nice but some don't necessarily give extraterrestrial aside from them maybe having an abnormal skin tone or facial features. fan artists put a lot of effort in making them different and i think that's cool 👍

probably should make a blog abt the misconceptions of adeline and how a certain group of deathstroke fans blame her for slade's problems and actions... no she ain't got shit to do with him grooming terra pre and post retcon.

it's just really ridiculous how people throw such big and bold accusations at her when they barely read any addie centric stories or view everything surface level.

while yes she may not be perfect it seems like a lot of people deflect when it comes to slade's actions. saying she slept with him as a teen, saying she has a history of dating young boys, saying she's always been evil, and even going as far as saying her shooting him was abusive... y'all need to go outside but also work on whatever misogyny y'all got going on.
