Are you serious, Dutch? Right in front of my salad?
what if the van der linde gang DID end up owning huge property that they all lived on together? and who would share the same houses/cabins? well heres my take:
-dutch, hosea, and molly are OBVIOUSLY living in the same house lets be real. i think there would be an extra guest room though that molly sometimes sleeps in or the other members if they dont wanna be in theirs. when trelawny visits, he stays there.
-arthur, charles, and sadie would live together. it would be the most peaceful household but i feel like they would keep forgetting whose doing what chores and their place would get messy quick
-abigail, john, and jack get their own place with uncle bunking, what did you expect? probably the cosiest on the lot too.
-mary-beth, tilly, and karen would have the nicest furniture in their place i reckon. theyre always having fun, doing gossip seshs, and inviting others over for sleepovers. grimshaw regularly bursts in to lecture them on keeping their place tidy.
-lenny, kieran, & sean share their space together but sean NEVER cleans or helps around the house so lenny is always sleeping over in the guest room by invite of hosea and then complaining to arthur. kieran ends up doing most the chores.
-grimshaw, strauss, reverend, and pearson share their space. its definitely the tidiest and theyre always out of the house working around the area and helping others out (apart from strauss whose more of a recluse)
-lastly, bill, javier, and unfortunately micah share their cabin. for the most part, bill and javier can be civil but there are a lot of arguments in that place and dirty dishes they fight over regularly.
i definitely have more headcanons about this and will make a part 2 …
more vickori propaganda for the masses
thinking abt how rdr1 really dwells on the idea that a person will abandon their values when pushed. the way john works for the law, the very force he's fought and hid from his entire life. how javier turns to the same government that displaced him and forced him into america because he's alone and desperate. john is a man of principle, but his mentor and the man who he credits as having a hand in raising him (for a time, he was the greatest man he knew) is a shell of who he once was, creating chaos and dissent wherever he goes for the sake of it, leaving who he once presented himself to be behind. jack, the bright creative who wanted to travel the world and help people, becoming bitter and angry as he repeats the cycle of violence.
sigh.
And the light shineth in darkness and the darkness comprehended it not
I can’t stop drawing this man lol. It’s a bit concerning.
First time using Tumblr, tho this will be my place for uploading ALL my fanarts, analyses and AU (I hope so). LET’S GO!
hmm what if instead of sitting at the divide, ulysses went on to become an 8-ball champion ?
in another life, they are in uni...talking about boring shit...
Hating Mary Linton for not staying with Arthur is misogynistic. Pure and simple.
Is she perfect? No, but neither is any other character in this game and some of y’all act like she betrayed Arthur worse than Dutch did.
She is not this master manipulator some of you make her out to be. Yes, her first letter is vague and probably gave Arthur hope but, regardless of if that was intentional or not, she sent that letter in a desperate attempt to save her brother; she didn’t just want to cruelly play with this man’s heart. Her second letter is clear in her intentions and she apologizes for even asking for his help because she doesn’t want to hurt him.
As for her saying “you’ll never change,” and such…you guys realize Arthur kills people, right? And that Mary was with him for awhile and probably spent a lot of time believing he could change and then he didn’t. Mary can be judgey in some less valid ways, but her not liking the idea of being with a man that murders people isn’t one of them. Most moral people would be uncomfortable in that situation. She does not owe it to him to compromise her morals just so he isn’t sad and, even if that wasn’t a factor, she does not owe it to him to stay with him, period. Plus this whole game is about the fact that Arthur is an incredibly flawed human that should change. To villainize Mary for believing that Arthur should choose to be better is to villainize the story you claim to love.

oh hello beautiful javier😙❤️🩹
the woman of the century!
you know sometimes i think about dutch questioning arthurs loyalty far back in horseshoe overlook and wondering where it had come from,
because to us, and to the gang, arthur is the most loyal of soldiers, someone who will follow dutch's order and whim and walk through hell and back to achieve it,
because being in the van der linde gang gives arthur a purpose, something so many will spend the rest of their life searching for, that even questioning arthurs loyalty just seems rather... foolish.
but dutch questions it, and he does so throughout the van der lindes journey, and he does so constantly, that it can't just come from nowhere.
and to dutch, and to me, i don't think it does. i think to dutch, however ridiculous it may seem, arthur has always had one foot in the van der linde gang, and one foot out in society, this coming from who arthur is, and who arthur tends to be attracted to.
you see arthur wanders, and he wanders a lot, he does so during their journey and he very clearly had done so before that, given the fact there seems to be a set system for when arthurs been gone too long, and dutch never seems to mind this, as whenever arthur returns, he always brings back to impossible, be it gold bars, large wads of camp, or enough food to feed the camp on weeks on end.
but then arthur brings back a women, a society women nonetheless, a society women arthur loves so dearly, and dutch's trust in arthur starts to crack, as while dutch never cared what arthur was up to on his wanders, now he knows that there's a chance that arthurs with that women and it bothers him, that arthur might have loyalties to someone outside the gang.
even so, that relationship between mary and arthur reaches it inevitable end, both wanting something from one another that the other cannot give them, and dutch ultimately feels relief, that while arthur is devastated, he stays in the gang for longer, his wandering less frequent, and dutch thinks he can forgive him for that one mistake.
but it happens again, sure, eliza's not a society lady like mary was, however, this time, arthur and eliza have a son, something else arthur can give his loyalty to, something, that gives arthur a purpose, and one much more precious than the one dutch had given him.
and arthurs gone for longer, to help eliza to prepare, to help raise his son, and with each time arthur leaves, dutch's trust in arthurs loyalty fractures, yes, arthur always returns with his pockets full to give to dutch, to the gang, however, there will always, always be a chance that arthur decides that the purpose his family gives him means more to him than the purpose dutch and hosea gave him isn't enough for him anymore.
although, arthur never gets that chance, and arthur stays within the gang for good, as anytime arthur seeks something meaningful outside of the gang, his heart just becomes battered and broken, and on the outside he becomes the perfect soldier, cruel and unfeeling,
yet the fact that arthur never got the chance to chose the gang, to set in stone that arthur will always choose the gang above anything else, means that dutch will never truly know where arthur's loyalty lies, despite it all, despite all arthur has done for him, to dutch, that question will always be there.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
side note, while we know the reason arthur and john don't get along so well in the beginning is because john not only left something precious that arthur had forcefully taken from him, and that he had left the gang, people who had rescued and raised john, i do think dutch had a large part in in their relationship shattering, because to dutch, john did it right. sure, john had left for a year, but his family hadn't, and his family were loyal to him, to the gang, and rejected society.
which is why it hadn't bothered him as much, why he doesn't get on john's case a lot in the beginning and why he had seemingly welcomed john back to the gang with open arms, something he likely had never done so with arthur.
