Never in my life have I thought I'd reblog a post because of a man's glorious, uh, backside, but here we are.
Oh please. Enough.
Honest question, how can someone NOT die seeing this? Anyone out there still alive?
I'm very much dead.

“Se que yo no voy a volver, pero está bien, estoy tranquilo. Estoy preparado para lo que viene. Los dos lo estamos. Y me pone muy feliz saber que ustedes si lo van a lograr. Eso me pone contento, Nando.”
“I know I'm not coming back, but it's okay, I'm calm. I'm ready for what's coming. We both are. And it makes me very happy to know that you are going to make it. That makes me happy, Nando.”

Jacques Le Gris
Adam as Jacques Le Gris, long maned and bearded, adorned with the chain of his office, face carefully blank save for the eager gleam lighting his eyes and the subtle twist of his mouth.
This is a powerful man who looks more than ready to pick up the gauntlet that’s just been thrown at his feet.
Full disclosure, I’ve not actually read “The Last Duel” yet, and everything I know about the movie is only what we’ve seen in the trailer and bits from the wikipedia article on Jacques Le Gris, which means I can’t even say for sure exactly when in the story this scene actually is. BUT. From what I can piece together, I’m guessing that this fascinatingly controlled expression is in reaction to his former best friend literally throwing the gauntlet down in front of him. And Le Gris is more than ready for a fight.
Adam’s face is very carefully neutral; nary a rumple, crinkle, or dimple in sight to suggest any amusement or ire. There’s a bit of a clue around his mouth, in that faint twist to his lips; the natural slant to his mouth is pulled ever so slightly higher. But if you look at his eyes you can definitely see how intensely engaged he is; the lids are pulled as far up as they can be without him raising his eyebrows, meaning we can almost see the full circle of his iris. You’ll notice that his pupils are blown too, which could be because the room was dark, but authenticity of Adam’s past performances leads me to think that we’re seeing his body’s genuine reaction to the challenge; one of the effects of a rush of adrenaline is to widen the pupils.
I have faith that Adam will give us an incredible, nuanced performance, and honestly that’s kind of what’s got me nervous.
Photo used for reference was a promotional still for “The Last Duel."
About 12.5 hours of drawing time, getting that brocade to look even halfway decent took a lot of trial and error and I finally just had to say it was good enough and put the stylus down and walk away.
I was waiting when @altocello will do a portrait of Le Gris, and here we are <3
Adam Driver #81 (Burberry Hero)
Adam, mostly submerged, hair damp and tangled, tendrils swept across his face by the sea breeze, his deep, calm gaze holding ours, the point of his chin dipped enticingly below the water’s surface.
That expression is so intimate; it feels like he’s sharing a secret with us, poised to gently surge out of the water.
I have to laugh, thinking of Adam talking about how his younger self would hate him for being so bougie in his interview as a new Breitling ambassador, and now he’s representing not one, but TWO high fashion brands, while playing the scion of a third. If you had told us in January 2019 that Adam would be an ambassador for Breitling watches, playing Maurizio Gucci, AND the face of Burberry’s newest fragrance, all at the same time, I’m not sure we’d have believed you. OUR Adam? The man who still wears his boots from when he filmed “Tracks” in 2012? Who has three different colors of the same denim shirt on rotation on his days off? THAT Adam Driver?
According to Adam’s groomer, the ever incredible @akgroomer, Breitling filmed their promotion in June of 2019, and the Burberry spot was filmed in the Canary Islands in mid-September. With as full a schedule as Adam had right then (filming “Annette” while also promoting “The Report” and “Marriage Story” in the marathon that is the fall film festival circuit), Adam’s calendar would have been carefully planned out months in advance. Frankly, the fact that they managed to fit the Burberry shoot in at all is a testament to just how well organized his team is.
And what a shoot! A visual symphony of images of Adam, muscular and very lean for his role as the sinewy Henry McHenry, lit by the rosy blush of dawn as he sprints down a beach and swims with a horse in nothing but a pair of neoprene trousers. We know he’s athletic, but it’s really something else to see just HOW athletic, in slow motion, with every muscle so clearly visible; he is poetry in motion.
The official promo photos both have Adam gazing at the viewer with his characteristic magnetic gaze; I find it mildly unsettling because I feel so very carefully SEEN by him, and he’s not even physically present. The behind the scenes photos are beautiful too, with Adam in all his confident wind and wave tousled glory, interacting so gently with that proud horse. The whole shoot is very clearly playing on Adam’s sex appeal, but it also has a kind of quiet, introspective, thoughtful feel that I find remarkable in a production shot and directed by men. These are guys, and I’m very deliberately including Adam in this, who clearly understand and embrace the female gaze.
The icing on the cake, of course, is that the cologne in question is named “Hero.” If there was ever an actor to be promoting a fragrance that sounds like a very thinly concealed meta about at least one of the characters he’s played, if not his personal philosophy on life, the universe, and creativity, it would be Adam.
That Burberry turned him into a centaur is the cherry on top.
Photo used for reference was taken by Mario Sorrenti in Sept 2019 as part of the promotion for Burberry Hero.
About 10 hours of drawing time for this one. There was a lot of leaning on my trust in the process while making this one; I was not sold on it for the majority of it’s work in progress stages. Many thanks to flypaper_brain, rad_braybury, and the RAG disco for holding my metaphorical hand while I cringed my way through those hair highlights.
(Meanwhile, all the fan creators [writers and scented candle makers especially] are reveling in the fact that the scents chosen for this fragrance are all things that have been included in their works. Well, maybe not the juniper.)
From a recent GQ Australia article about the Burberry "Hero" campaign:
Adam Driver is an inspired choice for this new Burberry campaign. Since launching his career as Adam on the Lena Dunham-created series Girls (he shared a name with his character, and it’s been said both real life and onscreen Adam shared traits), he’s gone from being perceived as this awkward, ungainly man whose hulking figure had the propensity to frighten small children and chihuahuas, to blossoming into this robust, Roman-nosed beauty who’s landing all the cool acting roles in all the cool films.
A collection of all the art for "Hiraeth" - gifted by artists and readers and friends - put in one place for no other reason than sometimes I'm like a dragon and I love hoarding beautiful, precious things, and putting them in a pile to look at them and feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside.
There's one illustration missing - from jenniferladybug - but drat and double drat, can't share that one on this site since it features stuff that'd put me in tumblr jail.

Okay, okay.
I am having a moment...
This is what the gods want Adam Driver to look like - beefy, bearded, with long hair and anger management issues...
Took me an eternity - life in the second half of 2020 turned very messy and I'm still processing things - but here it is, finally, Chapter 33 of "Hiraeth" with all the historical notes, photos and links you may wish for, as well as some personal memories and anecdotes shared. This is not a history lesson, god forbid - but rather a "making of", a look at the real life events, experiences, and lived moments that served as the inspiration for the story. Posting it symbolically on June 25th 2021 - the 30th anniversary of the breakup of Yugoslavia.
Art here by Shunak (@shunakart on IG) illustrating Chapter 18, which he made to celebrate one year of the fic, my 40th birthday, and this final chapter with historical notes. As always, he really, really nails the dynamic between Kylo and Rey in "Hiraeth".

reading a poem a recipe author wrote about her mother who passed and tearing up………. thank you bread recipe for the small dose of heart and tenderness 🥺💖
@illness
My mom died of covid this fall. There's an unfinished book by her nightstand, a murder mystery set in Moscow, corner of the page folded as a bookmark on chapter 3. There's a pair of brand new shoes - comfortable ones, with memory foam insoles - that she bought for long dog walks, but never got to wear. There's a not-so-secret stash of strawberry chocolate candies, which she wasn't supposed to eat but still craved.
I can't bear to look at these things, and yet I can't throw them away.
the rules are simple, you can only talk shit abt eastern europe if you come from eastern europe
Yes please.
The official trailer for Annette is here! The film, directed by Leos Carax and starring Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard, will premiere at the 74th Cannes Film Festival on July 6th, 2021.

It’s been around a year since I finished “Hiraeth” - my megalomaniac project that mixes the Reylo tale of star-crossed lovers with the actual history of my country, and my personal lived experience of growing up in the 90s during the war. It’s also been around a year since the pandemic started - and it’s been a rough year for me, with this plague completely disrupting my life and taking my loved ones before their time, which I’m still struggling to process. So I wanted to do something fun, and silly, and self-indulgent, and both blissfully creative and non-creative: for the first time in my life, I edited a video, like some sort of a trailer for “Hiraeth”. I had heaps of fun working on this - so I might as well share it with the world.
Video made in Canva, music from the “Gankutsuou” OST, text from Chapter 29 of the story. If you wanna check it out, here’s the AO3 link - just mind the tags and the prologue.
