Movieverse! Liir (Son of Elphaba/Wicked Witch of the West)

So I have the Wicked craze and I’ve been consuming all things Oz which includes Gregory Maguire’s novel. I remember hearing the crew behind the Wicked movie say they were going to add things from the books and it inspired me to make fanart of Liir (Elphaba and Fiyero’s son) if he existed in the movie.

I don’t really do characters with textured hair because it’s so difficult to keep consistent but I tried my best. I looked at a lot of pictures of the Throp family to see which features to keep like hair and skin colour, eye or face shape, Elphaba’s nails, etc. I also used whatever images I could find of Liir too, though it was harder considering how empty the wiki is, but his outfit is inspired by the ‘Son of a Witch’ book cover with his long tattered cloak. I also added a little feather as a reference to the Birds in the book being really important to the story and Liir.

I knew I wanted to draw Liir on the broom and that he’d ride it like a skateboard because it seemed fitting with when the book and musical came out those sorts of sports were super popular (just look at Jim Hawkson’s in Treasure Planet or Max in a Goofy Movie).

I love how this came out! I’m so happy with the colouring and shading especially his skin and hair!
