Zohran Mamdani | Type Animation

Just a couple of little typography animations I made in support of Zohran Mamdani for NYC Mayor campaign. Not an official commission, just something from the heart. They are a bit different, first one passed through a DV tape recorder for retro vibes. If you are a supporter, feel free to use it. No permission needed (credit would make me smile). Go vote! Ps: Beats are pulled from Pharoahe Monch’s “Simon Says” who uses an unauthorized sample from the soundtrack of Godzilla vs. Mothra (1992), composed by Akira Ifukube. Since the sample was not cleared (licensed), the rights holders sued. As a result, Monch’s debut album Internal Affairs was pulled from stores for a period, and the track faced restrictions on re-releases and digital distribution.

What’s most curious about Zohran’s campaign is that out of all his bold policies—like free public transit, universal childcare, and affordable housing—the one getting the most attention is his proposal to raise taxes on the top 1%. Most people don’t care because it wouldn’t affect them at all. But for the ultra-rich, the powerful, and the media they control, it’s a nightmare. They’re terrified not because it would ruin the economy, but because it might actually work—and prove that a different way of governing is not only possible, but popular.
