"i didn't get to say goodnight," he says casually like the hot water bottle is his apology.

✦ he's a big meal prepper. whips up big batches of tasty lunches and dinner, so late nights in the studio or long mornings in dance practice don't let his muscles wither away. donates one of the portions hoarded on his shelf in the fridge to you one time, and suddenly your shelf is filled with tupperware too.

✦ con: makes you heat up his portion in the microwave whenever you eat yours.

✦ knocks gently before entering the room without fail. worries he might startle you with barging in like he would the other guys, or catch you mid-changing accidentally.

✦ casual habit of pecking each other on the cheek before leaving the dorm to go your separate ways for the day. has resulted in an accidental peck of the lips once. he didn't move for ten seconds, and when he did, he said "...i don't really feel like getting strangled to death by chan or losing a bet i have going with minho, so i'm going to pretend this never happened."

✦ when he makes it back home later the same day, he closes the door with wide eyes. "okay, so, i might have accidentally told hyunjin what happened this morning. on a completely unrelated note, how good are you at barricading doors against, i don't know, six fully grown men?"

✦ never catches on to you 'borrowing' his things. finds his favourite cap on your shelf in the closet and the only thing he does is frown with confusion. "hey, didn't this end up here last week, too? seriously, am i blacking out or something because how does this keep happening?"

✦ thinks about you constantly when apart from each other. wonders if the other guys are taking care of you, whether he should bring takeout home to share on his way back to the dorm later. doesn't get embarrassed when the guys tease him for it, just says "the coolest thing a man can do is care."

✦ in fights, he passionate but gentle. sits you down on his bed, takes your hands in his, positions you both against the problem like the team you are deep down. "something's off with us. i feel it, and i know you do, too. let's figure this out together, just you and me. yeah?" he will always end the discussion with a long lasting hug until everything falls back into sync again.

✦ late night hangouts that turn into laughing matches while the rest of the dorm sleeps. only ends when chan bangs the wall from his room on the other side and shouts "it's midnight! shut up!"

✦ inconveniently affectionate with you. arm slung around your shoulder to lean on you while you're just about to put your shoes on, or open arms to invite you into a hug when your pot of boiling water cooking your noodles on the stove is about to spill over. never realises why those hugs are shorter than usual. "woah, you don't want to hug me? ...do i smell or something?"

✦ "don't roll your eyes at me!" after asking something obvious.

✦ uses up all your candles because he likes the ambience. but when you ask why he left five candles lit and unattended in your room while he chatted to changbin in the kitchen for an hour, he frowns like it's obvious. "i left the door open so everyone who walked past our room would feel it, too?"

✦ sketches from his notebook end up on the walls of your bedroom. he paints one picture of the two of you, but this one gets framed and put on his desk because it's special. he likes painting things you talk about, like a dream or a feeling you describe, then surprises you by hanging it on your side of the dorm like a gift.

✦ absorbs your mental state. if you're having a bad day, he'll naturally get quieter if you don't talk much, and he'll sink to your level and bite over little things when you do. but when you're all smiles and bubbling over with joy, he's right there with you sharing the brightness without realising it's coming from you. it can be reckless, and sometimes it isn't healthy.

✦ awful habit of bursting into the room like it's an emergency, just to go sit on his bed and scroll or adjust his hair in the mirror. when you ask if it was necessary to nearly give you a heart attack for nothing, he pouts and says "yes."

✦ fights between the two of you consume him. he spends the rest of the day overthinking everything from if he could have said something more productive in the moment, to if this has caused irreversible damage between you two. it makes his feet miss steps in the dance studio, his voice crack in the studio, and it only fixes when you talk things out and reconcile.

✦ he's a sentimental hoarder. he keeps seashells from beaches you visited together, tokens from arcades, even receipts from convenience stores in foreign countries. "what do you mean, do i really need this empty old chocolate wrapper? you said you liked it in belgium three years ago, and if we ever go back i need to remember what one it was so i can buy it for you again!"

✦ always collapses onto his bed when returning from shooting ad campaigns abroad. "did you miss me as much as i missed you?" he always asks, before diving in to all the celebrity gossip he found out on his trip.

✦ heavily relies on you to protect his peace. he's so busy being perfect for the world that sometimes, all he really wants to do is settle on your bed bare-faced with messy hair, watch something in silence together, and just be hyunjin.

seungmin! as your roommate:

✦ deeply values being regarded highly as your roommate. regularly does little things to lift the burden, like emptying the trash can under your desk, relocating your laundry from the floor to the hamper — he'll even hang your towel to dry before you've had the chance to do it. glows with pride every time you thank him. "don't worry about it," he says and the little smile on his face betrays how deeply he loves the recognition.

✦ lets you have free range of his accessories. scarves, bags, rings, whatever. if you want to borrow something for an outfit or a picture, he lets you have at it. draws the line at clothing though. "you and i need to have some boundaries, okay?"

✦ when the two of you clash over sharing a space, whether it's accidentally crossing boundaries or grating on each other's nerves, he pulls away. it's not a conscious decision, but it doesn't change the fact that he ends up avoiding you. he's suddenly too busy to answer texts, already has plans when you ask to make some, only comes to the room to sleep. he's mature enough to apologise after it becomes obvious he's been avoiding you, but hasn't yet figured out how to talk it out before letting it get to that point.

✦ changes your nickname to "pabo" for a few hours after catching you being clumsy.

✦ likes to convince you that facts he's made up are real. finds it absolutely hilarious to reveal he was lying, but funnier is when he purposely searches up real facts that sound fake just for you to accuse him of lying. enjoys the psychological warfare he causes. always ends up with you being suspicious of anything that comes out of his mouth. "is there a reason why you're squinting at me?"

✦ has a youtube playlist named after you. regularly adds videos he thinks you might both enjoy, and occasionally when you have a free half hour before you need to sleep, he'll invite you to come lay on his bed and watch one for a little. always holds the phone.

✦ finds it hard to open up when something's wrong. as much as he wants to be honest about feeling stressed or sad, it doesn't feel easy for him to express it. he copes by seeking out your company instead. whether it's sitting beside you during breakfast, or helping to dry the dishes you wash, he finds a way to be near. gradually, the comfort of your company encourages his walls to come down enough to have a heart to heart.

✦ on your first night of becoming roommates, he played a prank on you. he sheepishly said he can only sleep to whale noises and if you'd be okay if he put it on in the background to sleep, but what you weren't expecting was for him to crank up the volume of the moaning whales to the point where you could barely hear him asking "you don't mind, right?" from his bed across the room.

✦ he drags you into the bathroom, morning or night, to brush your teeth together. he claims it's to make sure you're on time for the day's schedule, or to get you ready to wind down for sleep at the end of the day, but you know it's more than that when he spends the whole two and a half minutes of brushing pulling funny faces at you in the mirror.

✦ occasionally bursts into the room without warning, door flying open while he rushes in, just to stop dead in his tracks after you've recovered from the shock... just to say "hi" and leave again.

✦ recognises the smell of your perfume anywhere. thirty minutes after you've left the studio and minho walks in, he catches the lingering notes of vanilla and honey in the air. narrows his eyes at chan. "nobody told me y/n was running lines today?"

✦ meticulous in keeping your things off his side of the room. tosses your deodorant onto your bed if you left it on his desk, pushes your hangers further from his in the shared closet. one time he catches your charger plugged into his socket and threatens to hang himself with it if it happens one more time. "i'll do it, y/n. and you'll find my body on your side of the room."

✦ speaks softly in the mornings when you've just woken up, but will also yank the curtains open with no warning. "what?" he asks innocently while you shield your eyes. you don't need to look at his face to see the grin.

✦ grows his own herbs for cooking on the windowsill, often asks you to water them when he's in another city for an ad campaign. when he gets home, he excitedly rushes across the room to see how they're looking. jumps up and down a little when he sees they're in good shape. "nice. i'll repay you with dinner later, and i'll let you keep your life... for now."

✦ maintains boundaries. he doesn't want you to know everything about him, and if you push for vulnerability when he's not volunteering it, he isn't afraid to make things uncomfortable to protect his privacy. he will usually opt to deflect when your questions are brushing against something he doesn't want to discuss though, and will shut your probing down with "well, if you really want to know more about what's going on with me..." before going on to describe his bowel movements that day. enjoys the way you cover your ears and twist your face. "what? you asked."

chan! as your roommate:

✦ dislikes clutter. if there's a pile of miscellaneous items spread over your desk, he will find himself glancing at it every few minutes until it's all he can focus on. he'll hold back for a little while, give you the chance to sort it out. but if in ten minutes you haven't made a start on putting things away, he'll blurt out "alright, i can't hold it in any longer. what is all that, and why doesn't it have a home yet?"

✦ takes his sleep very seriously. expects you to be respectful enough to avoid waking him up when getting up in the middle of the night, and if you do disturb his sleep, he gets huffy. big sigh as he rolls over, mumbling a cranky "you know i'm trying to sleep here, right?"

✦ the only exception to waking him up is an emergency or a nightmare, then he's all hugs and gentle comfort. "hey, hey, it's okay, i'm here. channie's got you."

✦ always asks permission to go into your nightstand or desk drawer. sharing a room is lack of privacy enough, and he won't make it worse by going through your things without your consent. if you're ever not home and he has to go through your belongings, he feels the guilt until the next time he sees you. admits to it and apologises immediately.

✦ "is it weird if i use your lipbalm? that's weird, right?"

✦ sometimes gets distracted mid-conversation by an incoming call or a lyric in his head that he just has to write down, then forgets to return to the conversation. can go thirty minutes before he breaks the silence with an "oh yeah! as i was saying..."

✦ has a habit of squeezing your shoulder in passing. doesn't matter if if you're eating at the desk and he's on his way out the room, of if he's got to leave the conversation to take a call, he's always giving you a little squeeze of acknowledgement. it's his own little form of affection — his way of checking in, even if he's not saying anything at all.

✦ where he goes, music follows. leaking through his headphones when he's working on a beat at the desk, or when he's taking a shower in the bathroom next door. it's never overbearing, but it's not something you can ask him to stop doing if it gets irritating. it's part of him.

✦ finds it difficult to be both your hyung and leader while also sharing a room together. in the instances where he has to scold you in dance practices, or for not focussing in the studio, he takes a moment to talk it out in the privacy of your room so you understand it isn't personal. "you know i love you to death, yeah?" he says before pulling you in for a hug until the air feels cleared between you again.

✦ sings to himself when he restocks his closet with fresh laundry.

✦ impossible to track his routine, so don't wait up at night. if you do, you'll probably be waiting hours with how much time he spends in the studio. sometimes he'll come back at eleven in the evening, just to slip out again at midnight. the music never sleeps, and neither does he.

✦ when he feels like your schedules have been keeping you apart for a while, he'll wordlessly pull you into a hug the next time he sees you. it's always long lasting, gentle in a way he isn't with the guys. head tucked in your shoulder, mumbling a heartfelt "missed you."

jeongin! as your roommate:

✦ when your schedules keep you apart, he sends you silly pictures of your stuffed animal wearing his sunglasses or baseball caps. the excited text messages he receives from you about the jeongification of your teddy bear never fails to make him smile.

✦ hangs and folds everything. and so will you, because the backdrop of jeongin's outfit of the day mirror pictures will not feature a laundry pile.

✦ "hey, can i have a padlock for my birthday? i'd like to lock you out of my closet."

✦ he is a keyboard warrior and he isn't afraid to go to battle on your behalf if the guys are keeping you up at night with too much noise. he'll pretend the guys woke him up from sleep when you stir in the early hours of the morning to jisung's bass-boosted playlist, and get to work on scolding them over the dorm groupchat like he isn't one of the youngest. pretends it's not all for you. it is.

✦ keeps the bottom drawer in his night stand full of snacks. starts planting decoys of your favourite chocolate amongst his collection after you steal from his stash one too many times. he pretends to get annoyed when he notices you've taken the decoy chocolates again, but is secretly proud his master plan worked... and a small part of him is happy that you got to enjoy a little snack, too.

✦ quality time is spent together late at night scrolling through memes in silence from your separate beds. occasionally he'll burst into a fit of laughter, relocate to your bed to personally show you the video saying "you just have to see this." then forgets to go back to his own bed.

✦ quiet as a mouse when you're sleeping. turns off his alarm the second it rings in the morning, closes doors quietly, even breathes softer. if any of the guys are talking too loud in the hallway early in the morning, he'll casually lead them further away from the room to the kitchen to make sure you aren't disturbed.

✦ "if you really loved being my roommate, you would give up your side of the closet for my sneaker collection."

✦ he has a preference for open windows in the room at all times for fresh air, even in the winter. when he sees you shivering, he feels overwhelmingly guilty and will personally drape a blanket over your shoulders and bring you a hot drink as a peace offering after closing the windows. "sorry, noona. didn't mean to chill you to the bone. drink this tea, it'll make you feel better."

✦ physical affection is difficult for him being the youngest in the group. the older members often feel entitled to invade his physical space because of his age, and when you first become roommates, he just needs a safe space to not have his boundaries crossed. gradually overtime he becomes more affectionate, draping his arm over our shoulder to chat when you're inspecting your outfit in the mirror, or climbing under the covers to nap together in your bed after a break in your busy schedules.

✦ takes a polaroid picture of you both on your first night of becoming roommates. has kept it taped to the wall above his bed ever since.
