Of terror and danger and f e a r.
The Where and When is a melting mess of conflicting information, but the one consistent thing is the DANGER. The fear of death of dying of Something Coming Run Run Run-
Something that chases, something that kills, human-shaped but not one because a human wouldn't do this
What 'this' is, is unclear in the dream, a shifting thing whose only definition is Fear and Pain in equal measure
Sometimes it's stone, sometimes it's metal, sometimes it's projectiles and explosions
and something about fire sticks in the dream, holds there, hovering in place like an angry god, red and glowing and powerful - exuding a promise of inescapable torment.
The nightmare fixes on the Red-Fire-Dangerous
There's a scream of his own held in his throat, trapped there, held in place expertly, imprisoned right up against his racing heart - Edward was no stranger to nightmares that had him waking up wanting to make noise, and thus he was quite well verse in making sure he didn't make any, for fear of letting Alphonse know it was worse than it seemed.
Even far away from him, way out in Ishval, the habit refuses to change. Perhaps it's Solaris he doesn't want to worry, this time.
He notices - but isn't calm enough to care about - the almost-shell growing around his person. Floor and wall and parts of the bedframe reaching out and curving awkwardly around him, thorny like a giant chestnut shell made of wood and earth and stone.
He lets it stay there - too jittery and unsettled by the nightmare to bother thinking of how to correct it. In a way, it also makes him feel safer; a shield keeping the Outside just that much farther away from him.
It'll be tough to explain to Solaris once she notices. Tougher to explain to any Ishvalans that notice a hell of a lot of transmutation scarring in specifically Edward's room.
Edward curls into a tight little ball, face pressed into his knees, and just. Breathes.
It doesn't mean anything.
