Top Five Natsuki Hanae Roles
Yeah, now it’s his birthday. I’ll be honest, I’m not too fond of his voice. It’s like a prepubescent guy. He has a certain niche where he plays the right characters that suit his voice though, and when that happens, you can tell that he’s really nailing his role. I’m not a huge fan of his singing, but I still do listen to some of the Honeyworks songs he does because I’m a fan of that series. I have massive respect for him. He’s an accomplished voice actor in the realm of video games and anime. He has roles in the Fire Emblem series and in League of Legends. In real life, he’s really funny when drunk (that’s a subbed clip of him not being able to handle alcohol), and he posts a lot of cat pictures on his Twitter.
You can find his Twitter here. I’d say a good half of his pictures are of cats. I see he is a man of good taste as well. I’m personally extremely allergic to cats, but I still like cat pictures.
With that out of the way, I’m going to start the list!
Honourable Mentions (That I Haven’t Seen):
Lavi (D. Gray-man Hallow)
I haven’t watched this anime yet because the number of episodes is quite intimidating. There 103 not counting the sequel which has another 13. But a weird thing about this role is the fact that he only plays Lavi in the sequel. The original series had Kenichi Suzumura playing that character. I find it odd because I find that there’s usually a lot more commitment towards keeping the seiyuu consistent. I’m kind of curious as to why they changed it.
Rokuro (Sousei no Onmyouji)
This one is kind of for the same reason as D. Gray-man. There are 50 episodes in this one. I’ll watch it someday though. The supposed genre of this show fits my criteria for what I like.
Haruichi Kominato (Diamond no Ace)
Since I’m a huge fan of Nobuhiko Okamoto, I kind of recognized this character. He’s the younger brother of Nobu’s character. I’ve only watched one scene from the show, but it was only for Nobu’s character (who was badass even if he was just passing him by at a vending machine).
Takumi Aldini (Food Wars)
Yeah, I’m not going to watch Food Wars. I might change my mind later, but the amount of fanservice actually makes me uncomfortable. Yes, I’m being serious. It’s ecchi, and I don’t watch those, so no matter how good the animation is and how good the food make look, I just don’t think it’s the show for me.
Shuuhei Amamiya (Piano no Mori)
I literally couldn’t find a gif or proper image for this one, so instead, have this image that I drew in five minutes of some stickman playing the piano.
I’ve watched one episode of this series, and the older version of Shuuhei hasn’t appeared yet, so I can’t add him to the top part of this list, unfortunately. It will definitely be tough getting through this series because like sports anime, I weirdly find that it triggers me a little. I still want to watch it though.
5. Kotaro Enomoto (Honeyworks)
This one is mostly here because I’m a huge fan of Honeyworks. Yes, this counts as an anime role because he appears in the Honeyworks anime movie adaptations. He’s the main character in the second one ( Suki ni Naru Sono Shunkan wo.: Kokuhaku Jikkou Iinkai ). He is a tsundere in every sense of the term, and he has his own song too! Here’s the song, and here’s a scene (no English subs, unfortunately)
4. Reita Toritsuka (Saiki Kusuo no ψ-nan)
Yeah, the perverted psychic with purple hair. He is honestly such a goof though. He is a funny little addition to the cast of Saiki, and he does have his good run of jokes. It took a while for this role to grow on me, but it did.
3. Hikari (Nagi no Asukara)
I watched five episodes of this twenty-four-episode series a few years ago (because I just finished Akame Ga Kill at the time, so jumping from that to this was a little too tame), but I rewatched the first episode to refresh my memory because I remembered this character that much. Personally, I think the casting choice for this character is spot-on. I couldn’t have chosen a better person who could play an immature prepubescent dude. I technically should watch the rest of the series before I put him on this list, but it’s too late now. :P
2. Kousei Arima (Your Lie in April)
I managed to get through this anime a couple of years ago. “Your Feels in April” is probably a more fitting title. I personally found this a memorable role even though the dub was really good as well. The funny moments were really funny (when the writing landed well), and the serious moments were really moving. Seriously, if you haven’t watched this already, I highly suggest it. I was really relating to Kousei as a character and his emotional struggles with playing his music. Here’s a character song and an injury compilation. Yeah, this character goes through a lot, doesn’t he?
1. Ken Kaneki (Tokyo Ghoul)
But this character went through way more. I know it’s a series that “you might as well read the manga”, but you got to give the guy credit for acting those excruciating scenes. Here’s a story of the audition. They basically had to act like they were suffering which is awkward when you’re surrounded by people who don’t know what’s going on or if there are people there watching you. Here’s a clip of some suffering. But just try naming a worse first date. See? Being single is a good thing sometimes.
