This aircraft is a Lockheed F-117 Nighthawk, famous for its characteristic angular design designed for stealth. Although officially retired from active service in 2008, around forty aircraft remain in service in 2024 for training missions, including as aggressors. It is not a fighter but a pure ground attack aircraft, despite its "F" (Fighter) prefix which was intended to deceive about its function.Designed by Lockheed Martin, it made its first flight in 1981 and was first used in live combat during the 1989 invasion of Panama.

“Not a pound for air-to-ground” shaped more than just the airframe. It shaped the cockpit too. The F-15 introduced one of the most complete HOTAS (Hands On Throttle-And-Stick) setups of its era. Radar modes, weapon select, target designation, countermeasures, and key communications were all moved onto the throttles and stick. The pilot could run the entire fight without ever taking a hand off the controls or looking down at a panel. Older jets forced you to reach across the cockpit in the middle of a merge. The Eagle was built so you stayed eyes-out and hands-on from start to finish. It was pure air-superiority thinking that has been included in every fighter jet since.

Medical records finally sent me an electronic copy of my imaging from my trauma in April. First image shows the spiral femur fracture just below my hip prosthesis (femur head shattered from previous trauma). The next images show the completion of ORIF surgery (long plate and screws). Leg is looking like it was pieced together at HomeDepot.
