When I was hospitalized one of the cleaning ladies who was Ethiopian told me that at first she didn’t understand that the people in here were sick. She just thought we were crazy, lazy, attention-seeking or all three.

Next thing we know people will start saying that “WELL THE WORD CRAZY ONLY EXISTS BECAUSE OF COLONIALISM” and like yeah sure, the word maybe, but don’t act like manifestations of mental illnesses or disorders are unknown in other cultures. I mean even in the ~western~ world, people who suffer from mental disorders and the like are STILL sometimes said to be possessed by the devil so…

Do they think other cultures didn’t have some sort of explanations for erratic behaviours?

Probably I mean they aren't really giving people credit for being just that: people. You can’t treat people outside the western world like infants, which is what is what people do when they say that people are basically blank canvases on which the West painted its image. 

You know at the moment the weirdos have crawled out of the woodwork here to call gay people diseased and shit to try and smear the campaign for marriage equality. I hope that voice isn’t the majority and we have ten days to go to see how the vote will go but at the very least they don’t reflect all of us.  And you’d basically get run from the mental health profession here if you dared say stuff like that. It’s easy to feel resistant when people are trying to help you and sometimes they can say stuff that hurts but ultimately at least a lot of people in the profession do try to help. Sometimes you get though questions that you don’t want to confront and perhaps that’s what that part of tumblr is so afraid of because challenging negative thought patterns is difficult but you can’t hide from it forever I think at least. 

But then again some people have even said they no one can criticise the horrible behaviour of some people the world over because “it’s their culture”. You know what people have been telling us this past while? It’s in our culture to hate gay people and we should vote against marriage equality. News to me so it is and I’m very much insulted to be associated with our most vitriolic segment of the population. Ireland was dominated by the church for years and I’d like to think there is more to our culture than being dominated by corrupt institutions

If you’re lactose intolerant you can eat nuts and if you’re allergic to oranges, most other fruits have vitamin c. If fruits aren’t an option, there’s also vitamin c supplements.

Vitamin C has not actually been proven to help your immune system in well designed studies. A varied diet is good for you but unfortunately there is no fix all, especially not one dietary component alone. 

And with regards to testosterone, most studies stipulate having a high testosterone level for a male. Not having a normal level, having an abnormally high level for anyone. The hospital I went to was one of the places that were only starting the current research on that and those studies are not finished yet.

ok i’m getting seriously pissed at those posts now, i saw another one talking about this problem and how in Europe heatwaves were a serious thing, even if our heatwaves are considered “for babies lol”

In France back in 2003 there was a heatwave with temperatures rising to 30°/40°C (that’s 86° and 104°F to you), 15000 people died in a month because of the heatwave. It’s not fucking funny.

Britain often suffer from water shortages because of low rainfall during heatwaves. Britain and Ireland generally have colder climates and the crops we grow are dependant on our regular climate of mild temperature and regular rainfall. We’ve had heatwaves where crops failed, water supplies had to be rationed and then losing elderly people because we don’t have much air conditioning considering it isn’t usually necessary. 

Heatwaves aren’t always about the temperature itself but the fact that it remains relatively high for prolonged periods of time.

Personal dietary decisions are your problem but I don’t see why someone would get a carnivorous animal and not feed it suitable meat. I would probably even extend that to omnivorous because I notice the chickens seem to be more healthier and long lived when they are let eat some worms. (Seriously they go crazy if you are doing some gardening and loosen the soil enough to expose some worms)

There are herbivorous pets available if you can’t handle the idea of giving a pet meat.

It was nice though, like not as cheap as that one you mentioned but nimnims. and marks and sparks had their giant cookies for 1.20 for five cookies and yes I am a fat walrus.  so you mentioned how your mam got some brie. How much for how much? what’s your favourite cheese?

personally I like some pecorino, vintage cheddar, kind of mid range strengths. for things like pizza though I enjoy creamier ones too. I had a nice brie and caramelised onion sammich.
