Daryl snorted and shook his head at his best friend's words. "Nah." A reaction the woman had kind of anticipated. "Yes, you are, Daryl. Admit it to yourself." The archer scoffed, "'M not... in love." and continued to dispute it. Carol sighed; letting go of the man's arm and slightly shifted to be able to face him better.
"Okay, where's the problem? What's so bad about being in love?" Daryl scoffed; throwing the stone in his hands away, which caused Dog's ears - who laid snuggled against his dad's leg - to perk up. "Nothin'. 'S just... I've never did this before. Not properly." "And that's okay. I'm sure Y/N understands that as well. There's a first for everything."
Another moment of silence passed, before Carol took the hand of her best friend in hers; causing his head to turn and face her. "You deserve to be happy, Daryl. You deserve a happy end. Especially after all that shit you've been through. You deserve to be loved." The archer's hand gently squeezed the woman's hand as he pressed his lips in a thin line; not saying a word. He simply didn't know what to say.
"Don't you want this?" She asked carefully then, to which Daryl only shrugged his shoulders. "Dunno," he said; voice merely above a whisper.
"Well..." Carol started, and took a deep breath. Her hand let go of his again. "No matter how you decide on this, you have to give Y/N her notebook back." Daryl grunted lowly. "Can't ya give it back to 'er?" The gray haired woman shook her head; "No." a small smirk tugging at the corners of her lips. "I won't let you run away from this, Mr. Crossbow. You'll have to face this - and Y/N."
"You really think I'm gonna find it again?" You questioned Michonne sceptically. The woman smiled and nodded confidently. "Yes. Don't worry. Your notebook will find its way back to you. I'm sure of it." "Okay..." You gave her an uptight smile and went to hug her in order to say goodbye. "If you say so..."
That's what Michonne said... Almost two months ago, right before she (and everyone else) returned to their communities... Slowly, you really started to lose hope... You sighed and clapped your diary shut; hiding it again underneath your mattress. Just as you wanted to blow out the candle and go to bed, you could hear a soft - almost faint knock against the door to the cozy, little hut you lived in. Frowning, you reached for your knife and slowly made your way over. Taking a deep breath, you opened the door - only to see a familiar figure standing in front of it. Well, rather the back of a familiar figure. Your heart skipped a beat.
"Daryl?"
Your voice caused the archer with his signature angel-winged vest to stop dead in his tracks. "What are you doing here?"
The man swallowed hard - unbeknownst to you. He had hoped that you were asleep already. That he arrived too late in Oceanside. That he didn't have to face this, but reassuring his conscience with the fact that he tried.
Well, his plan failed.
Taking a deep breath, he turned to face you; arms crossed behind his back to hide your precious notebook. "Been bringin' some stuff for the trade." It wasn't a lie. "O-kay," you gave him a nod, then frowned. "I-I mean, no. What are you doing here?" You vaguely gestured around to refer to your hut; unable to form a different sentence. The presence of your crush totally threw your already tired brain totally off-track.
"Oh, uh," Daryl started and ducked his head, while nervously chewing on the inside of his bottom lip; working hard to form the right words in his head. "I, uh, jus' wanted to give ya somethin' back." Slowly, he brought forward your notebook from behind his back, causing your eyes to widen.
"Belongs to ya, righ'?" You nodded; stunned and wordless. Daryl took a few hesitant steps closer - as if you were a wounded, dangerous animal. "Found it, 'n thought I should give it back to ya." Once he was close enough, he literally shoved the notebook into your arms and chest, before quickly stepping backwards again.
You blinked; looked from him to the notebook and back. "T-Thanks, I-" "'Course, see ya." The archer instantly interrupted you and this time really turned on his heels and vanished into the night; leaving you just standing there. What you didn't see, nor hear, was how the man pinched the bridge of his nose and repeatedly mumbled under his breath: "'M a goddamn idiot."
You stood like frozen to the ground in the doorway, just staring into the distance. Only a chilly breeze, which caused goosebumps to spread all over your skin managed to pull you out of your trance like state. Blinking again, you turned around and went back inside the hut; closing the door behind you. You made your way back into your cozy bedroom and got comfortable underneath the sheets; carefully checking the beloved notebook in your hands if it was okay. Not that you didn't trust Daryl, but...
Skipping through the pages, you discovered that everything was as it should be. No ripped pages, not dog-eared or stained. He had been really attentive. A smile spread on your face. The happiness that you got your most valued possession back finally sinking in - but not lasting long...
You reached the last page you had drawn something onto... Daryl. And suddenly sunk your heart to your boots. What if he knew? What if he had seen the drawing? "Oh gods..." You whispered to yourself. Was it a coincidence that he of all people had found your notebook? Should you confront him? Ask him? You had to, right? Or not?
Your head started to spin; one thought chasing the next. Needless to say, it was a sleepless night.
You couldn't tell yet if fate wanted to help you or kick you repeatedly in the butt. All you wanted the following day was to talk to Cyndie - thinking Daryl had left Oceanside again, but then you saw the two of them having a seemingly important conversation. With your eyes widening, you quickly turned on your heels again and wanted to 'flee'.
But you didn't get far.
"Y/N, wait!" You heard Cyndie call out. Squeezing your eyes shut in a grimace, you took a deep breath and turned to face them with a fake smile. "Good to see you. You're just in time." "O-Oh, yeah? Am I?" Cyndie nodded with a smile, then gestured towards the archer. "Daryl agreed to help us get the new solar panels we need. You know, the ones which got destroyed in that storm a few weeks ago?" "Yeah, I know... How, uh, kind of him." "Indeed," Cyndie agreed. "And you are going to go with him."
Your eyes widened again; cheeks instantly turning red.
"M-Me?"
"Her?"
Both, you and Daryl exclaimed simultaneously.
Cyndie's eyes darted back and forth between you and the archer. A borderline skeptical look was on her face as she nodded. "Yes. You know the area pretty well. Better than anybody. You know where that warehouse is," she explained, then scanned your faces again. "Is this a problem for you two? A conflict or anything else you want to talk about?"
"No."
"Nah."
You and Daryl answered simultaneously once more. The leader of the community gave you both another skeptical look. "Okay. You should gear up and get going then. Better be back before it gets dark. And be careful, yes? Take care." Cyndie received two nods as an answer. "Good," she said and turned to walk away. "Oh, and Daryl?" The archer looked up to face the woman. "Thank you. Your help is highly appreciated." The man nibbled at his bottom lip and gave her another nod; desperately trying to hide the upcoming nervosity inside him.
You inhaled a deep breath in a lousy attempt to calm your rapidly beating heart. It was beyond excited to spend time with the man it secretly yearned for. Your head on the other hand was signaling you the complete opposite. Your head told to run and hide, despite knowing that you couldn't. You agreed to this mission, after all.
"Get yer stuff. Ten minutes at the gate," Daryl's voice urged to your ears, but before you could say something, he was gone.
"Shit, shit, shit," you cursed under your breath. This was going to be a fucking nightmare
Thirty minutes later, you and Daryl were on the road together; making your way to the warehouse with the solar panels. Cyndie had described the way and even handed him a small map. You really didn't know why she nevertheless send you along. Just because you 'knew the area'? You had to suppress a scoff. Despite all that, though, were you certain that your leader had no idea which hell she pushed you through. It was torture. You absolutely didn't know how to act around Daryl anymore. The uncertainty what he knew and if he had seen your drawing of him (including the poem) was positively driving you insane.
Of course, you didn't have the guts to ask him either; too afraid of the outcome. What were you supposed to say anyway?
'Hey, Daryl, have you coincidentally seen the drawing I made of you in my notebook? Why I drew you? Oh, just because I'm totally into you.'
No. Certainly not.
Therefore, you settled on staying quiet and watching him instead. Analyzing his behavior. Daryl was walking ahead in silence; crossbow slung over his back and map haphazardly stuffed in the back pocket of his jeans. He led the way, but looked regularly back over his shoulder to make sure you were still there. It was challenging to lower your gaze in time and avoid his beautiful eyes whenever he did that. No words were exchanged. Sure, Daryl wasn't super talkative. He had never been and you knew that, but... You felt like he was even quieter than before. It was weird. His whole demeanor was weird. He was acting... different - and it gave you chills.
What if he had truly seen the drawing and is now creeped out by me? What if he thinks I'm weird? Or crazy? Or he's disgusted? Angry?
Your thoughts were a mental merry-go-round.
Little did you know that the archer was acting so distant and weird because his romantic feelings for you he had discovered a few weeks back were skyrocketing since he was that close to you for almost two hours now, and he just didn't know what to do with himself. He felt like a teenage boy falling in love for the first time. He just hoped that this was over fast and he could return back home to Alexandria and hide away.
But fate had other plans, of course. It didn't let you and Daryl off the hook that easily. Quite the opposite...
"S-Stay here? Overnight?" You squeaked out in a high-pitched, yet muffled voice; shocked and appalled. "Ain't got no choice," Daryl whisper-shouted as he carefully peeked out of one of the small, dirty windows of the barricaded door. "'S way too dangerous, 'n it's gettin' dark soon. There 'r way too many of 'em out there. We can't take 'em. Not jus' the two 'a us." He referred to the rather big herd of walkers, which had suddenly decided to flood the small town you were in. "If ya wanna go 'n die, go. Ain't gonna hold ya back," he snapped gruffly, but instantly regretted it again. The mere thought of seeing you die caused his heart to shoot an aching pain through his whole body. Oh, how he would hold you back...
You just nodded wordlessly and turned around to somehow make yourself comfortable. "Well, at least we got the solar panels," you whispered and vanished around the corner. He could hear the slight hurt in your voice.
Daryl sighed deeply and squeezed his eyes shut. "Idiot. Yer a damn idiot, Dixon," he muttered to himself and managed to barely hold back his fist from slamming it against the steel door. Attracting a ton of hungry walkers in an already shitty situation wasn't a good idea.
To keep his mind distracted with other things that weren't you - and frankly to give himself an excuse to not face you, he patrolled the whole building; checking every window and door to make sure that nothing dangerous could get in. Dead or alive.
Nevertheless, Daryl knew that he had to face you at some point. He just couldn't stay away. His selfless nature and the attraction he felt towards you literally urging him on to check in on you and protect you if necessary. So, he made his way carefully to the little camp you had set up. Wordlessly, he set his crossbow down, shrugged off his backpack and sat down opposite you with his back resting against the cool wall. He just watched you for a long moment with the pad of his thumb between his teeth; gnawing at the rough skin, as you munched on some bread you had packed.
"Barricaded the doors 'n made sure nothin' can get in," Daryl dared to speak up then. "We should keep watch anyway, though. Ain't takin' the risk." You nodded - and silence settled over the both of you again. It was nowhere near pleasant and rather suffocating. And yet neither of you knew what to say, until...
"Ya mad at me or sum'thin'?"
The archer's sudden, unexpected words cut through the silence like a knife. Daryl himself didn't even know why he said them. They just slipped past his lips. You hadn't given him a glance. Until now. You looked up slowly - almost shyly. Your eyes met his, and he could swear that his heart skipped a beat - just like yours. Then you shook your head. "No. Why should I?" The man opposite you merely shrugged his shoulders. "'Cause yer actin' pissed 'n distant." You scoffed, "Me? Distant and pissed?" and crossed your arms over your chest. "You're the one who's acting weird and distant." Daryl grunted, and shook his head; causing a few wild bangs to fall into his face. "Nah, I ain't. Dunno whatcha mean." "You're a bad liar." Now Daryl scoffed. "Yeah? How do ya know? Ya ain't know shit 'bout me."
You didn't know why, but his words stung.
You said nothing and instead turned away from him to lay down on the hard, uncomfortable underground with your backpack acting as a pillow. "I thought we were friends, but... Apparently I got that wrong," you whispered and closed your eyes. And again Daryl regretted his words. How could he act so stupidly and make the same mistakes again and again?
Another long period of silence passed between the both of you, while it got dark outside. The only source of light were both yours and the archer's flashlights. The faint but always present sounds of familiar groans and snarls reminded you constantly of the danger lurking outside - why you were trapped in this damn building, and keeping you from sleeping. Since you had turned away from the man across you, you had been staring out of the distant window; watching the moon replace the sun through a thick layer of dirt and dust.
"You could've just told me." Your quiet voice ripped Daryl out of his trance like state; deeply sunken in his own thoughts. "Wha'?" He asked; heart speeding up again as his brain registered your words and the possible meanings behind them. Tell you what? That he loved you? Have you managed to see through his façade?
"That you hate me."
Your words soothed and simultaneously hurt him. Relieved that you hadn't figured him out. Hurt that you were thinking he hated you. "Wha'?" He croaked out again; too stunned to get his mouth to say something different. You shifted and turned to face him once more. The light wasn't bright and your face barely illuminated, and yet he could see the nervosity on your face. Your eyes held fear, regret - and something he couldn't pinpoint. "You... You've seen the page, didn't you? I-In my notebook. That's why you act like that. You hate me now." You didn't know where you took the bravery from to ask him that. Perhaps it was the steady relentless nagging of the voice in your head. Perhaps you just couldn't take the uncertainty any longer.
Daryl was speechless. Way too overwhelmed by what you just said. She knows. She knows. She knows. The words echoed through his mind on repeat. His pulse sped up once more as he stared at you in shock. "I-I-" The man stammered and needed quite a few moments to get himself together. "Nah. I-I mean, yeah. I, uh, saw your drawin'. 'M sorry. I didn't mean to snoop around. I jus' wanted to figure out who the notebook belonged to."
Fuck, fuck, fuck, you cursed internally; having a hard time to hide your blush. This was beyond embarrassing. You felt like being stripped butt naked and put in front of a huge crowd of people; judging and laughing at you. Your mind worked at lightning speed to find the right words to say to Daryl. A good explanation. An apology. A white lie-
"But I dun hate ya."
And suddenly it was quiet. All the thoughts and voices in your head suddenly fell silent.
Blinking, and completely in disbelief, you sat up. "What?"
Daryl shrugged his shoulders; nervously fumbling with his fingers. "I dun hate ya."
You blinked again. "You... Don't?" "Nah."
Another beat of silence passed, in which your brain just tried to comprehend what your ears just heard. You opened your mouth to say something and answer him, but before a single word could leave your lips, a loud noise could be heard from just outside the building. It caused both your survival instincts to kick in; the conversation forgotten for the moment. "Get over, 'n turn off yer flashlight," the archer whisper-shouted as he got on his feet; extinguishing the light and drawing his knives. You quickly nodded and got over to him. Pressing your back against the wall beside Daryl, you drew your weapon as well and switched off the flashlight. It was entirely dark now in the way too large warehouse - except for the moonlight shining through the high windows. Adrenaline pumped through your body as you stood there besides Daryl; breathing shakily. The noise you had heard a few moments ago didn't repeat itself, but the snarls and growls outside got louder.
The archer stowed his knives away again and switched his flashlight back on, before he made his way over to an old shelf. "Help me get that thing over there," he said; jutting his chin towards the wall ahead and taking the flashlight between his lips. You did the same and hurried over to help him get the shelf as quietly as possible over to stand directly against the wall; not knowing what his intention was. You discovered it soon, though; watching with wide eyes as he started to climb on the damn shelf. "Daryl," you whispered. "What are you doing? This thing is old. What if it breaks?" "Ain't gonna break. 'M jus' takin' a look," he grunted and reached the top; pulling himself up to stand and look out of the window. "What is it? Can you see something?" "Jus' a burnin' car," he stated quietly, then shifted to climb down again. "Be careful," you mumbled; watching his every move.
"A burning car?" You asked as the archer had both feet planted firmly back on the ground again. "Yeah. 'N a hell lotta walkers, of course." You frowned. "Means someone is out there?" Daryl shrugged his shoulder. "Could be anythin', but yeah, looks like someone lit it to distract the walkers." He walked back over to your little camp to grab his crossbow. "Imma check the doors again, 'n take a look around. Stay put, 'kay?" "But..." You watched him disappear into the darkness with wide eyes.
You sighed and sat down again; back against the wall and clutching your flashlight and knife tight. Those haunting sounds of dozens of walkers attracted by that car keeping you brain on high alert. You weren't afraid of the situation. Nervous, perhaps. You were afraid that something happened to Daryl. That someway somehow found something dangerous its way past the barricades inside the building and was now lurking in the shadows to attack. Should I follow him? The thought crossed your mind more than just once - but before you could act on it did you hear some rustling. Quickly snapping your head to the right - ready to defend yourself, you watched with pure relief how Daryl appeared from around the corner. "Daryl..." You sighed; a small smile tugging at the corners of your mouth. "You okay?" He nodded. "'M fine. Doors are still barricaded. Seems like nothin' tried to get in," he reported as he put his crossbow back down. "Wha'ever it was it's gone. Think we are safe. Jus' need to wait out those damn walkers. There's even more now." He sat down beside you with a grunt. "The car..." The archer nodded. "Well, at least we are safe for now... Hopefully," you muttered and took another deep breath; leaning your head against his shoulder. Before you realized what you were doing, was it already too late. Your body craved safety and a feeling of comfort - and the man you loved was right there. Apparently did your control slip for a moment, which was enough for your heart to command your body to act as it desired.
Daryl froze at the sudden, unexpected contact; a blush spreading over his whole face and even coloring the tips of his ears. "If you don't hate me... Why do you act like you do?" Your voice was hushed and soft - almost vulnerable. It tore at the archer's heartstrings.
He swallowed; "'Cause I..." trying to find the right words to say. "I didn't mean ta push ya away, 's jus'... I've never... I..." You slowly lifted your head to look at him. You had never seen the archer struggling like that. "You never...?" You asked quietly; literally able to see the gears turning in his head. Daryl shyly tilted his head a mere few inches to be able to look at you as well - a big mistake. He didn't realize how close you truly were. Until now. He was able to see every inch of your beautiful face. Every dimple. Every dip and curve. Every mole and beauty mark.
Once more he swallowed hard; eyes dropping to your lush lips. They looked so warm, so soft, so inviting - and only a few inches separated them from his. It caused the archer's breath to hitch in his throat.
"You never...?" You repeated, seemingly unaware of the situation you both were in. Daryl couldn't do much than stare. "I-I never..." He tried again, but felt himself lose the battle. He leaned in slowly, causing a small gasp to slip past your lips as you suddenly noticed as well how close you were. "D-Daryl?" Your heart threatened to burst with each inch he bridged, until his lips were hovering just above yours.
He is going to kiss me. It's happening. Daryl Dixon is going to kiss me. Am I dreaming?
You couldn't believe this; were clearly thinking that you were caught in a dream. You would've never imagined that this was going to happen - and yet you could feel his warmth radiating off of him and his unsteady breath against your skin.
Like clockwork slipped your eyes shut; ready to finally feel his lips on yours.

The first time you had seen him was all those years ago, when he and his group 'raided' your camp for all the guns you possessed to fight the Saviors. He had been the one who tied your hands with that uncomfortable, scratchy rope.
Daryl - like the woman with the katana addressed him - had been kneeling in front of you on the rough, earthy ground. One big, work-worn hand had captured your smaller ones around the wrists, while the other worked to wrap them up with the rope. His long chestnut brown curls had fallen into his face; preventing you from seeing his stunning blue eyes. He hadn't said much during the task at hand. Nothing but a few grunts. Your eyes had been stuck on him the entire time; entranced, stunned, enchanted.
It had been only a short encounter. A small touch. A fleeting moment - and yet you remembered everything. It was like engraved in your mind.
Now, Daryl stood merely a few yards away from you on the sandy underground of the beach in Oceanside - your home, so many years later. The memory from your first encounter was still vividly present, like you discovered. Sure, you had seen him before after you first saw him. Quite a few times actually, but most of the times only fleetingly. This... This was different.
The archer had passed you by with a soft touch on your arm and a 'Hey, Y/N, ya good?'. You wanted to answer him casually, but when your eyes met his and the wind carried his scent to you - a mix of smoke, leather and something earthy and musky, your mind went blank. Mostly. All you were able to think about was that damn moment all those years ago and suddenly crashed those warm, fuzzy feelings you had thought dead full force into you again.
Apparently had the crush you developed on the handsome archer never ceased. It had been just hidden; buried underneath a ton of other feelings.
You had barely managed to give him a proper answer; too overwhelmed by his sudden presence and the feelings running wild inside you.
Now he was watching you (and everyone else) fighting off the walkers Jerry and Ezekiel released from that old shipping container to practice your fighting skills and test out different strategies. To say you had a hard time concentrating was an understatement. Your eyes were like glued to Daryl; unable to tear them away from him.
"Y/N?" Michonne's voice reached your ears and brain, but nobody was home at the moment. "Y/N. Hey, Y/N." Only when your friend grabbed your upper arm and gently shook you 'awake'. You blinked; focusing again and turned your head to face the woman. "Huh? What?" "Eyes up front, soldier. This is where it's at!" An uptight smile crossed your face as a reddish blush crept up your cheeks. "Uh, yeah, sorry, I just... I thought I saw something out there in the distance," you lied; referring to the ocean. You actually hated lying, but your brain just short-circuited in that very moment; not finding a different way out of this kinda embarrassing situation.
Michonne's eyes flickered over your face as if to analyze your reaction and expression. Then she turned her head up front again. A knowing smirk was on her face - unbeknownst to you. "Sure, Y/N, whatever you say."
It got only worse the following days from that point on. It seemed like everywhere you went, everywhere you looked, there was always Daryl. As if he was a ghost, haunting you. It wasn't your fault that you ended up sitting underneath a tree, which shielded you from the warm sun, your old notebook in hands and drawing the handsome archer working a few yards across from you. It was clearly his fault.
Well, at least now you had a... reason to constantly watch him. You just hoped that neither he, nor someone else noticed it. That's why you opted to 'hide' underneath that tree; providing you the perfect opportunity to fully indulge in the crush you harbored for him.
Most likely unbeknownst to him had chosen Daryl violence today - in your opinion. His old, kinda ragged brown jeans were still the same, sure, but they nevertheless didn't fail to accentuate certain... body parts as he moved around and helped Beatrice to fix that small boat with the leak. Therefore, that it was a quite warm day for Spring, he didn't wear that greyish black shirt he had worn yesterday, no, he wore a black one... With the sleeves ripped off - what caused his arms to be on full display. Logically. A perfect view on his tattoos. A perfect view on his bulging biceps. To say he had a pair of strong muscles was probably an understatement... Always carrying around a quite heavy crossbow was apparently showing.
It was the first time you saw him with bare arms, and you positively had to swallow.
If you could, you would definitely take a bite out of those delicious arms. Just a small nibble.
The sweat glistening on those arms in the afternoon sun wasn't helping at all. If not, it made everything just worse. Just like the sweat on his chest - on which you caught a pretty good glimpse of as well, since the top two buttons were undone. Tanned skin - kudos to quite a few hot summers spent without sunscreen in the Georgia heat, adorned with a dark patch of chest hair curling over his pectorals and clinging to the slick skin there; leaving you thirsting for more.

Your eyes widened as you caught yourself thinking this; a blush spreading over your cheeks. You quickly shook your head to try to get ahead of these... inappropriate thoughts.
But... Weren't all your thoughts kinda inappropriate at the moment?
Most likely, yes, and you definitely felt a bit bad for sexualizing him so hard, but you just couldn't help yourself. Your crush on the brave and selfless archer with his rough and tough edges but definitely with that heart of gold underneath the hard shell was beyond huge. Not that he'd ever feel the same way about you, but a girl could dream, right? Instead of acting on your feelings you chose to suffer in silence; afraid of making a fool out of yourself.
You sighed softly and gave his shirt on your drawing a last pencil stroke, before you redirected your attention back to Daryl; now focusing on his handsome face.
And you really thought things couldn't get worse, but like so often before you got proven wrong...
Those eyes... Those beautiful, breathtaking blue eyes... You were sure you could drown in them - and you wouldn't even complain if you did.
It made you kinda sad that you just possessed a pencil to draw and not any colors. Such eyes deserved to be seen.
Daryl's beard hadn't changed much. Except that the fine hairs got a little bit more gray in them now - and you would lie if you said that it wasn't hot.
His shoulder-length, chestnut brown hair hadn't changed as well; was still one of your favorite features of him.
Your hand which was literally glued to the sheet of paper on your lap seemed to work on its own accord, as you kept on drawing the handsome man. But suddenly, he stopped at his task at hand to rummage through the pockets of his pants. Once Daryl had found the object of desire, he did the unthinkable. It caused your eyes widen to the size of plates...
He tied his long curls together into a man bun.
Your jaw dropped; brain on the verge of collapsing. The man across you looked even prettier now - something you didn't think was possible. Until this very moment. It suited him to perfection. You had always thought his long hair to be sexy. But Daryl with a man bun was just devastatingly hot. You'd even go as far and say it was a panty dropper.
"You'll catch flies if you keep on staring at Daryl like that." The sudden voice urging to your ears from your left managed to burst the dreamy bubble around you. You blinked and quickly clapped your mouth shut again; head snapping into the direction of said voice. Michonne was standing beside you; arms crossed over her chest with a smirk on her lips.
"W-What?" You squeaked, then quickly cleared your throat. "I-I wasn't staring. I was just... in thoughts," you stated; trying to somehow get out of this kinda embarrassing situation. "You weren't staring at him?" You shook your head, acting innocent like a well-behaved school girl. "No." The woman raised a suspicious eyebrow at you, but stayed quiet. Michonne just eyed you for a long moment in silence, "If you say so..." before she moved to sit down beside you. "What are you drawing?"
You instantly blushed; clutching your notebook against your chest. "Uh, nothing." "Nothing?" "Nothing important," you corrected and hoped Michonne would just buy your story and drop the topic, but deep down you knew that you blew your cover already at the very beginning of this conversation. Her smile widened. "Just Daryl, right?"
Well, shit.
Your silence was answer enough for the Alexandrian. "Show me? I won't laugh or judge you. Promise." You took a deep breath and looked at your friend, before hesitatingly handing your notebook over. Michonne's eyes scanned the paper; instantly widening. "Wow, Y/N, this... This is beautiful! Absolutely stunning."
A small smile spread on your face.
"Thanks..." The woman shook her head; still marveling at your art. "Amazing, truly..." She looked at the drawing for another moment, before handing the notebook back to you - and you really believed that you were off the hook now.
"You like him, don't you?"
Nope.
"W-Well, I-I-I...," you stammered; the reddish color returning to your cheeks. "Oh, you absolutely do," Michonne smirked, while you helplessly shrugged your shoulders. "H-He's a kind, cute guy..." "Yeah, you got it bad for Daryl," she giggled; placing a hand on your shoulder.
"Why don't you tell him?"
Your eyes widened a second time.
"T-Tell him?! Are you out of your mind?!"
"Why?!" She chuckled. "Because he won't ever - not even in my wildest dreams reciprocate those feelings, Mich!" You exclaimed. "And I certainly don't plan to make a damn fool out of myself." You clapped your notebook shut and hugged it to your chest; resting your chin on your drawn up knees. The woman sitting beside you sighed. "Y/N... Life's too short for this bullshit. Every day could be our last, as hard as it sounds. We've got no time to 'think it over' or to 'wait another while'... Just do it. Tell him. Friends, family, hope and love is all we got those days. Thought you know that." With those words your friend stood up and left you alone again with your crush on the archer and those raging thoughts inside your head.
"Where is it... Where is it..." You mumbled under your breath as you rummaged through your stuff. You were on the search for your beloved notebook. You could've sworn that you placed it on your bedside table yesterday, but it wasn't there. It was nowhere, actually. Not on your bed or under the mattress. Neither in your backpack, nor in the box where your fishing gear and weapons were. It seemed like it just vanished - and you were close to losing it. This notebook meant so much to you. Held various memories, captured in the form of drawings and sometimes even poems. You didn't know what to do if you had truly lost it.
Frustrated, you made your way outside the hut; almost crashing into Cindy. "Woah, Y/N, carefully." She was carrying a crate with fresh fish. "S-Sorry," you apologized instantly and rubbed your left upper arm. The leader of your group frowned. "Are you okay? You seem... absentminded and worried." "Yeah, I'm good. It's just... I can't find my notebook..." Cindy knew how much value this plain little object had for you. "I'm sorry. I hope you'll find it again. Look around the camp. Perhaps you forgot it outside somewhere and somebody found it. I'll keep my eyes open, okay?" You smiled softly at her. "Thanks." Cindy gave you a compassionate smile in return, then passed you by.
Following her advice, you started to search the camp. It just had to be here somewhere...
"Tara woulda been proud," Daryl stated, while walking side by side with Michonne through the bustling camp. "Mhm, hope so," answered the Alexandrian leader with a smile. "It's good to bring the kids also... Let 'em see the ocean for the first time." "Yeah, I know one idiot that woulda loved this." Michonne's smile even widened as she gently bumped Daryl's upper arm with her fist, causing the crossbow-wielding archer to smile as well.
The two friends kept walking in silence, before Michonne spoke up again. "Hey, what you got there?" She asked; noticing in the corner of her eyes the not very subtle book which peeked out of Daryl's back pocket of his jeans. "Oh, uh, tha'..." He reached behind to retrieve the item, "Found it underneath a tree." and handed it over to his friend. Michonne inspected the paperback sized book. Her eyes widened. She knew that book. It was yours. The conversation she had with you yesterday immediately flooded her brain again.
"Have you looked inside?" Daryl shrugged. "Nah, not really. Jus' flipped through the first few pages... Lotta drawings 'n some poems or sum'thin'." The woman smiled; unable to resist the urge to help you and Daryl along. Sometimes you had to push them into the right direction, right?
"It belongs to Y/N," she said; turning her head to face her friend. "Yeah? Really? Didn't know she could draw like tha'... 'S real good." "Mhm... You should take a look at her last drawing," Michonne said; still smiling like a Cheshire cat. Daryl frowned. "Why? 'S her personal stuff. Been already snoopin' 'round too much." The Alexandrian leader stopped in her tracks to pat the archer's shoulder, "Do it. Trust me." before she walked away.
Daryl was quite confused about his friend's behavior. A frown stretched across his forehead. Nevertheless, did he decide to follow her advice and take a look at the last drawing. Once he reached said page, his eyes almost widened to the size of plates; jaw dropping. The drawing wasn't just anything or anyone, no... It was a drawing of him. A beautiful one at that. Very detailed and so realistic, as if you had taken a photograph of him. Just in black and white. The only color this piece of paper possessed was an oceanic blue. His eyes.
The archer smiled softly; feeling honored that you'd draw him. He didn't question yet why. But then he noticed the small text written underneath the drawing...

The archer stared holes into the written poem; totally taken aback. He wasn't stupid. He knew what those words apparently meant - and they caused his brain to malfunction. A woman. Apparently in love. With him?! How was he supposed to react now?
Clapping the notebook shut again, he quickly stowed it away in his back pocket again, before it got too real for the archer.
He carried the small item around with him for days. It almost felt like it was burning a hole into the fabric of his tattered jeans. It was always present in his mind. You were always present. It didn't help that he often saw you. Constantly. Everywhere he looked, there was always you. He knew he should give you the notebook back, but he was afraid. What was he supposed to say anyway? He just didn't know how to react or what to do. And when he left Oceanside with the others to return to Alexandria, Daryl felt utterly guilty. So guilty and so helpless, that he did the only thing his brain was telling him seemed right to do... Ask his best friend for help.
"I feel like there's a reason you took me on that hunting trip. Am I right?" Carol's voice urged to his ears from behind him. He swallowed. He should've know that the woman looked right through him. She knew him like the back of her hand. No wonder after all those years spent together in a apocalypse... "I can literally see the gears turning in your head, Daryl." He stopped; Carol coming to stand beside him, while Dog already trotted ahead. "So there is," she stated finally. "You gonna tell me or do you need another while to come around?" Daryl scoffed and shook his head, before he continued to walk. "Came out to hunt. Gonna do tha' first." A smile spread across Carol's cheeks, "Alright. Whatever you say, pookie." as she followed him and their animal friend.
About two hours later, the two of them sat around a little campfire they made; grilling a few of the fishes they had caught.
"You're awfully quiet. More than usually," stated the gray haired woman after a long while of almost crushing silence. "Whatever it is that's on your mind, it must be bothering you a lot..."
It did. She wasn't wrong.
Daryl sighed. He came here to talk and he wanted to. It just didn't come easy to him. Things like that never did.
Wordlessly, Daryl turned to rummage through his backpack and handed Carol your notebook. "Last drawing. Towards the end of the pages." His best friend gave him a curious but also questioning look, before she opened the book; skipping to the last drawing.
Like Daryl's before, Carol's eyes widened as well as she studied the page. Then she smiled. "I think someones got a huge crush on you." As if it wouldn't be obvious... "Let me guess who? 'Cause I think I know." The archer looked at the woman sitting beside him; leaned against the log with an almost shocked face. "Ya know?!" She nodded. "Y/N." Daryl's jaw dropped. "Wha'? How do ya know?" Carol chuckled. "Are you kidding me? It's obvious. Have you never noticed how she looked at you whenever the communities meet?" The clueless man blinked. "Of course you haven't..." Carol rolled her eyes but was still smiling. "That her notebook?" He nodded; swallowing hard and trying to find his voice again.
"Found it... Quite a few weeks ago. Back when we were at Oceanside for tha' training..." "And you didn't give it back to her?" Daryl shook his head; chewing on the inside of his bottom lip and nervously fumbling with his fingers - and Carol knew. "You saw the drawing and now you don't know what to do, right?" Another nod, before a beat of silence passed between the two best friends - only the sound of the crickets and the crackling fire could be heard.
"'S jus'... I dunno how... how to act on this. I've never..." He paused. "I've never thought someone could ever love me, ya know... Let alone a woman... 'M a stranger to all 'a this..."
Carol gave the man a compassionate smile; not judging her best friend and rather wanting to help. "Do you have feelings for Y/N?" Daryl thought for a moment, then merely shrugged his shoulders. "Dunno," he whispered; staring like hypnotized into the fire. "Okay, let me rephrase that question... What did you feel when you saw Y/N in Oceanside a few weeks back?" The archer thought again. He was trying. He really was. "Uh, happiness, I guess? Like... 'S always nice to see 'er. She's a kind woman." Carol nodded. "And what do you feel now when you think of her?"
Her best friend swallowed; the stone he had just found on the wooden ground beside him suddenly very interesting.
"Been lookin' at tha' drawing a lot... Been thinkin' 'bout her also a lot... 'S... I dunno. 'S like somebody handed me glasses 'n I see her different now tha' I wear 'em." Daryl paused. "When I think of 'er now, I... I think 'bout how, uh, great she is. 'N how... pretty. Feels like an itch in my, uh, stomach. A tickle or some flutter. Dunno how else to describe it." Carol smiled encouragingly at him. "That's good. Keep going. What else?" "Uh... Think my heart also beats, uh, faster. 'S like I've been runnin' a damn marathon or sum'thin'." "Mhm," the woman sitting beside him hummed. "Do you have the urge to see her? Talk to her? Be with her?" Daryl blushed; cheeks turning crimson. He nodded.
Carol's smile brightened, and she hooked her arm through his; patting the strong muscle. "Wha'?" The archer asked a bit confused.

Life on a ranch wasn't always easy.
Life on a ranch a day after a storm, which caused a lot of damage, was even less easy. It honestly sucked – at least that was what you thought. The whole day after was only spent with getting things right again, cleaning up, clearing fallen trees out of the way, mostly fixing fences, and catching eloped cattle and horses. It was exhausting and incredibly tiring. But once all the work was done, you often found yourself on a ride out with your palomino Mustang stallion Arrow in order to take some time off and relax. Just like on this pleasant Saturday in spring...
The surprisingly pleasant warm Montana sun was shining down on you, as you rode down the mostly untrafficked road; past endless meadows and fields - always following the Yellowstone River. It was quiet and peaceful; all you could hear were the sounds of nature and the click-clacking of Arrow's hooves - until a rather disturbing... noise cut through the air and urging to your ears.
Motorcycles.
It was a rare thing that even cars drove down that road; trucks even less and now bikes? You scrunched your nose and gently guided Arrow to leave the road and continue the journey through the meadow.
The sounds of engines got closer and closer, until you saw about five or six bikes pulling up beside you in the corner of your eyes.
Must be a biker group or something...
They slowed down; almost coming to an halt beside you. "Hey!" A voice called suddenly out, causing you to stop Arrow in his movements and look to your left. One of the bikers had pulled off his sunglasses and was looking up at you; both feet planted firmly on the ground beneath him. Muscular arms led to gloved hands, which held on tightly to the handle grip; sunglasses dangling between deft fingers.
You adjusted the cowboy hat on your head; looking down to meet the man's - admittedly - stunning blue-grey eyes.
"Uh, hey," you called back. "Can I help you guys out?" The biker nodded. "Hope so. We got a lil' lost on our way," he explained in a very thick southern accent; voice a little muffled by his black helmet. You shrugged your shoulders; smiling. "Well, I can try. Where were you guys heading?" "Planned ta go to Billings, but kinda landed 'ere." You nodded; still smiling. "Ah, I see. Should've took route 94. This one won't lead you to much. You need to circle back and drive past Miles City."
The man - most likely leader of the biker group nodded. "How far from 'ere ta Billings?" "About 140 miles. If you're lucky, you can make it in two and a half hours." "A'right," the man nodded and put on his sunglasses again. "Thank ya." You gave him another smile. "No problem."
He gave you a last look, before he revved the engine of his bike and signalled his group to circle back. They followed his command and off they went. Your gaze followed them for a moment, before you gently nudged Arrow's sides. "C'mon, buddy. Let's head home. It's almost time for dinner."
You and Arrow made your way back to the Willow Creek ranch - owned and run by your aunt and uncle. Having lost both your parents when you were small due to a car accident, you and your older sister - Tess grew up on the ranch and were working there. Well, Tess longer than you; given the fact that you finished college not that long ago.
After taking care of your animal best friend, you joined your family for dinner.
"You coming later with me, sis?" You swallowed down the remaining food in your mouth and looked over to your big sister. "Where to?" She rolled her eyes in return, but smiled. "You know where, Y/N..." You sighed; poking around in your peas. "Tess... How often have I told you that-" "This isn't your thing, I know... But you have to try it first, right? How can you say you don't like it, if you never tried?"
You grumbled under your breath. Unfortunately, was Tess right.
"Yes, you should really accompany your sister, Y/N," acknowledged your aunt suddenly; agreeing with her. "You barely leave the ranch, honey. It will do you good." You sighed, but for the first time gave in; tired of all the constant discussions. "Alright, fine. I'll go with you - but if I don't like it, I'll leave immediately!" "Yess!" Your sister cheered. "You'll love it, I promise - but yeah, fine." You scoffed. "We'll see about that."
Partying and alcohol had never been one of your high interests and certainly not on your bucket list - yet, here you were standing now in front of the best bar in Miles City - according to your sister; located at the outskirts of the city... 'The Rowdy Racoon'.
You sighed; eyes directed at the building, while Tess just giggled. "I can't believe I'm doing this..." You moaned; already regretting your decision. Your sister was quick to grab your hand, "C'mon, sis... Loosen up a little and have some fun! It's Saturday night, for God's sake!" before you were able to cop out. You groaned again, but let yourself get dragged towards the entrance of the bar; past several vehicles and over the large porch, on which several men and women stood with drinks and cigarettes in hands; talking, laughing and having fun.
Loud music urged to your ears as you stepped inside. 'Born To Be Wild' by Steppenwolf - and just in that very moment, you felt like there wasn't a more fitting song on this whole planet for the scenery you walked in...
The bar was almost filled to the brim with people. Some of them were sitting at the large counter in the middle. Others were seated on some tables all around the big room. The rest of them was dancing, playing pool or tried their luck at the Pinball machines. It was loud, wild and crazy.
You hadn't even the chance to look fully around, since your sister dragged you further on to the bar counter. "Time for a drink, sis!" She announced in a sing-song voice; ordering two Whiskey Cola's. "We'll start slow," Tess said with a smirk; handing you the glass. You gave her a small smile. "Thanks." She clinked her glass against yours and took a sip. "Here's to an awesome night!"
Your sister's so-called 'awesome' night started surprisingly good - like you had to admit. Sure, you had to get a little comfortable first and getting used to being at a bar; warm up a little, but at some point it was really okay. Unfortunately, though, the tables turned after an mere hour. Friends of Tess had decided to come around as well and in the end, you sat alone at the counter on the bar stool; staring at your almost empty glass of Whiskey Cola.
This definitely wasn't how it was supposed to go... Not at all. It caused your mood to drop, of course; feeling alone and kinda betrayed. Tess invited you; took you here and now she had run off with her friends. You couldn't even leave, because you took Tess' car and she had the keys and certainly wouldn't let you drive. Great...
You sighed; turning the now empty glass in front of you in a circle, until...
"Thought I wouldn't see ya again, 'n certainly not 'ere," a familiar voice suddenly urged to your ears from behind you. You frowned and turned in your bar stool, only to meet the same blue-grey eyes you gazed into earlier this evening. It was the biker - but this time, he wasn't wearing a helmet. Chestnut brown hair reached in soft waves his shoulders; paired with a black baseball cap he wore backwards on his head. His chin and a little bit of his cheeks were covered in a slightly grey goatee, which fitted him perfectly.
You swallowed; couldn't help but to stare at him for a moment. He was downright attractive.
"Y-Yeah, uh, same," you stammered out, but quickly got your shit together again. "Didn't find your way to Billings yet?" The stranger chuckled and shook his head. "Nah. We decided ta spend the night in Miles City 'n head for Billings tomorrow." You nodded; smiling politely. "Wise decision." "Yeah," the man said and lifted his hand to scratch his beardy chin as if in a thinking manner. You noticed the tattoo on the back of his hand... A skull and... stars? Then he nodded at your empty glass. "You gonna let me buy ya a drink? Some credit fer ya help earlier. 'S the least I can do. 'Nother Whiskey Cola?"
You felt a slight blush on your cheeks. "Um, yeah, thanks." He gave the bartender a sign, who immediately worked to replace your empty glass with a full glass. "I have ta thank you," he answered; then looked behind at a bar table to where a few other people sat. His group, you thought. "Wanna join us? Ya seem a lil' lonely." You giggled dryly. "Yeah, my sister dumped me for her friends." You gestured at the dance floor; the biker's eyes following. "Kinda rude if ya ask me... C'mon, join us."
You swallowed; hesitating for a moment. You were a cautious person. After all you didn't know these people.
The man could seemingly read your mind. "They ain't bitin', I swear. All of 'em are very nice." "I-I, uh... I don't even know your name." He smiled crookedly, "'M Daryl." and walked towards his group again. Only now did you notice what he was wearing... Dark, slightly ragged jeans with a red rug stuffed in the left back pocket, a black, washed-out shirt and a angel-winged vest. Leather, as it seemed. Admittedly, you had a really hard time not to stare.
You hesitated for another few seconds and threw a look over to your sister again as well; noticing that she was still completely ignoring you and instead partied with her friends. Therefore, was your decision made. You slid off the bar stool and made your way over to Daryl and his gang.
An hour and another Whiskey Cola later, you had learned that they were indeed a biker group - from Georgia - making a road trip through America. You got to know the whole group as well, of course. There was Rick and Carol, which were Daryl's best friends. Glenn and Maggie - a young, kind couple living on a farm had joined the gang as well, just like Negan - a slightly annoying, but funny gym teacher. It was a crazy, but also perfect mix - and they all shared one passion... Motorcycles.
For an absolute non-expert in this new territory, you were absolutely fascinated. The stories they told you; the things you learned - it was fun and exciting.
Daryl and Negan invited you to a round of pool then; Rick and Maggie joining in as well. It was the best evening you had in a long while - but when the alcohol you had consumed slowly started to course through your veins and the music and chatter of the people became suddenly so very loud, you knew you needed a break. You were definitely not quite used to this, after all.
Stepping out of the bar and onto the porch, you took a deep breath; inhaling the fresh, chilly night air.
Yeah, the alcohol was present. You definitely felt a bit tipsy, but you were still fully aware of your words and actions, which was a good thing - and a stop sign you didn't plan to ignore.
"Ya good?" There it was again. That voice out of nowhere. His voice.
You looked to your left; seeing Daryl casually leaning against the railing with a cigarette dangling between his lips.
You nodded. "Yeah, just needed a break and some fresh air." The man took a deep drag; puffing out a cloud of smoke mere seconds later. Your eyes were still fixated on him - and you swallowed.
Hot... Why was that so hot? Him smoking?
"Me too. Needed a smoke." Daryl took another drag and stepped closer; hand fumbling in his trouser pocket. "Want one?" He asked then; fishing out a slightly squashed box of cigarettes and holding it out to you. "Um, I, uh..." You stammered; cheeks already turning red. "I dunno." "Ya ever had one?" You shook your head; biting your lip. The biker stepped even closer to you then; his body barely inches away from touching yours. "Ya wanna try?" Daryl took another drag, then held his cigarette in front of your face.
Hesitatingly, you leaned forward and took the little mouthpiece between your lips to take a drag. Feeling the smoke fill your lungs, you immediately started to cough and back up. A small smirk tugged at the corners of Daryl's mouth as he watched you; taking the cigarette back between his lips. "'S a normal reaction. Once you'll get used ta it, it won't happen again."
A short moment of silence passed, while you replaced the smoke in your lungs with fresh air and Daryl's eyes travelling up and down your body.
"Hey, uh, ya wanna get outta 'ere?" The man opposite you boldly asked with a charming smile; hands grasping the wooden beam above him. It caused the black shirt he wore to ride up and reveal some skin of his stomach; alongside a dark patch of fine silken hair.
For the second time this evening, you had a hard time not to stare and instead to focus on his question - which left you just as breathless; given the fact that you knew exactly what he insisted.
Before your brain was even able to ponder thoroughly over his question, your mouth answered with a quick, determined 'Yes' - which kinda shocked you yourself. "So... This is nothing I have to be afraid of?" You asked hesitatingly; voice still thick with concern. Siddiq gave you a bright smile, which was a clear attempt to nip your worries in the bud. "No, Y/N, absolutely not. It's perfectly normal and important to experience Braxton Hicks. And besides it's an indication that my estimations are correct. You're about twenty-eight weeks along now, I'd say - in time frame for that to happen." You nodded; finding Siddiq's reassuring words truly helpful. "O-Okay... But there's nothing I can do about it, right?" "No, sorry. You just have to go through them." You gave the doctor another nod, "Alright..." and moved to sit up on the makeshift examination table; Siddiq immediately offering you a hand to help you up - which you gladly took. "Thanks." The man smiled at you once more and stood to his feet as well; placing a hand on your shoulder.
"Just remember, it's important for your body. It's practice." "Yeah," you answered; rubbing the back of your neck. "Won't change that Daryl's gonna be worried sick... Dunno if he knows what Braxton Hicks are." Siddiq chuckled; knowing exactly what you meant. He got to know the archer way better the past months, and knew what he was 'capable' of...
"Explain it to him like I did to you. He'll understand." "Mhm, yeah, gotta try." You offered the man opposite you a last smile, patting your thigh to gain the attention of your furry, four-legged friend and headed for the door; "Thanks, Siddiq!" Dog following close behind. "Sure thing, Y/N." The doctor watched you leave, before he returned to his work.
You made your way slowly back to the basement apartment you and the archer shared. It took you about two times longer now to head from the infirmary back home; due to the pregnancy and its side effects. Your feet were swollen and hurting, just like your back now and then. It could be quite frustrating from time to time, especially when your husband wasn't around to give you endless foot rubs and massages - just like at the moment. Daryl was stationed and working at the bridge since almost two weeks now... You missed him - a lot. The daily conversations over the walkie-talkie weren't just enough anymore.
Knowing he'd be away for at least a month, he left Dog with you; trusting the faithful canine to keep you safe. He did and seemed to understand exactly what his dad asked him to do. Dog was like glued to your side; never leaving. You thought it was adorable and utterly precious.
Closing the door of the basement behind yourself and Dog, you grabbed the walkie-talkie and plopped down on the sofa with a sigh. Since the sun had started to sink, you hoped that Daryl could spare some time for you now to talk. Sure, he always did, but you hated to keep him from important things. After all, he was an important figure in this whole construction Rick and everyone else had built over the years. Daryl wasn't 'just' a right-hand-man anymore... He was a leader - and you weren't just talking about the Sanctuary.
"Daryl?" You pressed the button of the radio and called out his name, before letting go of said button again; waiting for an answer. After a few moments of silence, you tried again. "Dar? You here?"
It took the archer another few moments to answer. "Yeah, 'm here," his slightly static voice suddenly sounded from the small device in your hands; giving you a little scare. "Sorry, sunshine. Been wantin' ta get away from that bridge first 'n into my tent." He paused for a short moment.
"Everything a'right with ya two?"
You smiled; already loving to hear his voice. Dog's ears perked up as well, before he quickly joined you on the sofa and snuggled against your left leg; head resting on your thigh. Your free hand immediately went to give the canine some well-deserved head scratches.
"Hey, baby. Yeah, we're good; just missing you..." An adorable grunt could be heard from the other end. "Don get me started on how much 'm missin' my girls."
Your heart clenched at his words; bottom lip wobbling dangerously. What you would give to curl up in his arms now...
Somewhat between a sob and a laugh was escaping your lips. "Baby, you gotta stop that, or you're gonna make me cry, what in return in going to make our munchkin even more sad." "Even more sad? Whaddaya mean?" Daryl asked; his attention falling on his unborn child in concern. You smiled sadly and started to absentmindedly caress your baby bump; letting go of Dog, who was dozing peacefully.
"She's very unsettled and... antsy. I can feel it. She kicks more than usually a-and well... I think it's because she misses her daddy. She's used to hear your voice, you know, and now it's not there. Over the radio isn't the real thing..."
All you could hear for quite a few moments from 'the other end of the line' was silence. You frowned and just opened your mouth to say something, when you heard his voice again. "'M comin' home," Daryl stated. Your eyes widened. That wasn't your intention... You knew that he had to stay. Rick needed him there, but his words were also so tempting... And the fact that he was willing to drop everything just to drive back to Alexandria in order to calm his unborn daughter caused your ovaries to explode.
But you knew better, unfortunately.
"No, Daryl. You gotta stay. Rick needs you." He scoffed. "But our munchkin needs me more..." Well, damn. That was actually the truth. Valid point. "I know, baby, but I got it, okay? It's only two more weeks..." "Yeah, 's two weeks too much," he grumbled in return. "I know, but look... After that is done you won't have to leave us again until the birth. Rick promised, remember?" Daryl sighed; remembering his brother's words.
You were sure you had convinced him with that; already celebrating your victory over his stubbornness internally, when your body decided to throw a wrench in the works... Hitting you with a Braxton Hicks contraction.
Of course, you didn't see it coming - how could you? And therefore left a loud hiss your lips, followed by a small, yet painful cry, before you were even able to stop it.
You knew right away that you were screwed now. That wasn't how you planned to tell him... Fuck.
"Y/N?!" His panicked voice instantly urged to your ears. And Daryl wasn't the only one worrying... Dog had woken from his sleep by your cry; ears perked. He was wincing and repeatedly nudging you with his wet snout.
"Y/N!" "I-I'm here, Daryl," you radioed back as soon as the mild contraction subsided. Taking a deep breath, your free hand returned to the canine curled up against your side; petting his fur. "I'm okay, Dog, I'm okay..." You reassured Daryl's animal companion.
"Wha' wrong?! Are ya in pain?! Please talk ta me, woman!" You swallowed; redirecting your attention back to your worried husband. "I'm good, don't worry. It's just... I, uh, started having Braxton Hicks..." "Braxton wha'?" "Braxton Hicks... Those are, um, mild contractions. It's something that occurs between the twentieth and thirty-fifth week of pregnancy. My body is, uh, practising for the birth," you explained; biting your lip, before quickly adding: "Siddiq says it's a good thing a-and perfectly normal."
There was silence on the other end for a long moment, before the click-clacking sound of the little device in your hand announced Daryl's voice again. "'M comin' home," he stated once more; now drop-dead serious. "Packin' my stuff right now."
Damnit...
"Baby..." "Nah. Ya ain't talkin' me outta this, Y/N. Yer in pain, havin' fuckin' contractions! 'M comin' home." You sighed; knowing that starting yet another 'discussion' would be most likely fruitless. You couldn't stop him. Not again. "Imma talk ta Rick first thing in the mornin' 'n leave as soon as I can." "I won't win another argument, will I?" "Nah, ya ain't."
You sighed again, but ultimately gave in. "Alright... I'll see you tomorrow then... Be safe and drive carefully, yes?" "Of course, sunshine. Don worry 'bout me. You stay safe, ya hear me?" "Promise." "Good. I love ya. Both 'a ya." "We love you, too."
With yet another sigh, you put the walkie-talkie aside; placing it on the small coffee table in front of you. You didn't want Daryl to cut this 'mission' short just because of a few cramps, but on the other hand, you couldn't deny that you looked forward now to see him again. Two weeks felt like ages.
You smiled; cupping your baby bump once more. "You heard that, munchkin? Daddy's coming home tomorrow."
Daryl had a hard time sleeping that night - naturally. He was way too worried, and therefore just decided to spend the rest of the night on watch; waiting for the sun to rise.
Once the other people in the camp had started their day as well and the place was literally bustling with members of all the various communities, the archer sought out his brother...
"Rick." Said man was currently talking to Cindy and Beatrice from Oceanside as Daryl approached. The former policeman's eyes travelled shortly to Daryl, before he ended his conversation with the two women and shifted his attention. Cindy and Beatrice passed Daryl by; giving the archer a nod, which he answered with a curt jut of his head.
"Mornin'," Rick greeted his brother; hands on his hips. "You good?" The leader was indirectly referring to the last remains of a fight his friend had with Justin - a Savior, few days prior. Daryl had clearly won that argument, but a very prominent cut above his upper lip was the price he had to pay.
The archer put Rick off; "'M fine." quickly dismissing the topic. "But we gotta talk." Rick nodded and gestured at the huge tent only a few yards away, in which everything else got usually discussed as well. Wordlessly, Daryl followed him; stepping through the flaps of the dark green tent.
"I gotta go back home." He didn't beat around the bush. Why should he? "Y/N's experiencin' those... fake contractions, 'n the baby's very restless; givin' 'er a hard time as well. She needs me," Daryl explained; biting the inside of his bottom lip. "I know ya need me 'ere too, 'n 'm sorry, but-" "Y/N and the baby are your priority, I know," Rick interrupted the archer and gave him a smile. "As it should be, Daryl. They're your family. Go home. We got this." He nodded; head lowered. "Thanks, man." Rick smiled once more and gave his brother a pat on the shoulder. "Be safe, yeah?" "Ya too."
Not even ten minutes later was Daryl kneeling beside his bike to strap his crossbow on the vehicle; ready to leave. The camp was bustling with people, and yet found him a specific pair of eyes...
"You're leaving?" Carol asked as she came to stand beside him; arms crossed over her chest. "Without saying goodbye? Shame on you." Daryl looked up, almost apologetically. "Yeah, 'm leavin'. Y/N needs me," he explained; getting to his feet. "But I was gonna say goodbye. I ain't jus' leavin' ya." A frown carved itself immediately in the woman's forehead. "Is everything alright? Y/N and the baby are fine, right?" The archer nodded. "Yeah, jus' some fake contractions 's all, but I wanna help 'er through this. 'Sides the lil' munchkin 's missin' me," he explained; shrugging his shoulders and moving to mount his bike.
Carol gave him a cheeky, yet happy smile. "I think you're the happiest I have ever seen you, you know that? It's good, pookie." "Pf," Daryl scoffed and grunted; couldn't stop his cheeks from reddening. "Stop." His best friend smiled even brighter. "No, 'cause it is a good thing. You deserve this. To be happy. You do." The smile he gave Carol then was nothing but sincere. He wasn't a man of much words, but the woman knew, of course.
Daryl started the engine and exchanged a last look with his best friend, before he drove off.
Since you knew that Daryl was returning sometime this morning, you decided to take on Michonne's watch. It took you all the convincing skills you had, but in the end gave your friend in. Some fresh air was always a good thing, right? And all you wanted was to see your husband approaching safely the gates.
You didn't know exactly how much time had passed, but you were pretty sure it had been a few hours, until you heard that familiar sound of an approaching motorcycle. Standing up from the comfortable camping chair Michonne had gotten up on the wooden tower only for you, you watched with a smile how Daryl drove up to the gates - which got immediately opened for him. The archer had seen you, of course. A short eye contact was enough to display the feelings exploding within the both of you. Especially happiness and love.
Well, it had been two long weeks...
Your husband drove past the gates; immediately turning off the engine and dismounting his beloved vehicle, while you moved to slowly climb down the wooden ladder - step after step. You were carrying precious cargo, after all. About halfway down, you suddenly felt two big palms settling firmly on your hips. "Careful, sunshine," the archer's deep, smokey voice urged to your ears. You smiled; his touch and voice sending a pleasant shiver down your spine. Planting both feet firmly on the ground again, you immediately turned to hug the man as tight as your baby bump allowed.
"Daryl...," you breathed; inhaling his scent and fighting the tears - kudos to your hormones. "Hey, sweetheart." He held you just as firm, before he pulled back to gaze concerningly in your eyes. "Wha' were ya doin' up there?" He nodded at the watch tower. "Waiting for you, of course." Daryl grunted in clear dislike. "Ya shouldn't be up there. 'S dangerous. 'Specially alone."
You appreciated and treasured his protectiveness, but in that very moment was the watch tower the last thing you thought about.
Rolling your eyes with a smile, you cupped your husband's cheek. "Shut up and kiss me." Daryl still wasn't entirely comfortable of displaying affection in public, even after all those years - what you didn't mind, of course, but in that very moment, he didn't give a fuck. The longing and the ache in his heart after having to be away from you for so long was taking over.
He grunted in fake annoyance, before he dipped his head to meet your lips halfway in a deep, longing kiss. "I missed you so much, Dar," you whispered against his lips and bestowed another sweet, short kiss upon them. "Missed ya, too, sunshine." You smiled; his cheeks still cupped by your hands, as your eyes roamed his handsome face. But your happy expression got quickly replaced by a frown as you noticed the small injury above his lips.
"Where did you get that cut, baby?" Daryl shook his head; hands squeezing your hips in a reassuring manner. "'S nothing, sweetheart. Jus' got in a fight a few days ago 's all." Your eyes darkened. "One of the Saviors?" He nodded. "Justin. He was bein' an asshole. Couldn't let tha' slip." You sighed; nodding. "Does it hurt?" Concern flamed up within you once again. "Nah. Not anymore."
You wanted to answer him, but another cramp shot through your lower abdomen; causing you to grimace. Daryl's grip tightened again on an instant. "Contraction?" "Y-Yeah..." You confirmed; luckily feeling the period cramp like pain subsiding again. "C'mon, sunshine. Let's getcha back home. 'M here fer ya two now. Ain't gonna leave again."
You weren't the only one being happy about Daryl's return. Dog was happy too; almost taking the bulky man off his feet with the force he threw himself on him; paws connecting with Daryl's broad chest. You only watched with a smile; hands supporting your baby bump.
Speaking of... The tiny girl living in your womb was ecstatic to hear her father's voice again. You could feel it. Once you had cuddled up with Daryl on the sofa, to catch up on the lost time of physical contact and conversations, you felt her move; recognising Daryl's voice and seemingly that the hands around her home weren't yours as well... Daryl was about to tell you about working at the bridge, when a tiny foot connected with the palm of his hand. "Was tha'...?" You giggled; nodding. "A foot, yep. She got super active within the last hour. She knows her daddy is back. Told you she missed you." A breathless laugh left your husband's mouth; his thumbs starting to caress the clothed skin of your stomach. "Hey in there, lil' munchkin. I missed ya too, ya know."
He received another strong kick in return.
"She's got bigger 'n stronger. I can tell." "Yeah? You think so?" You asked; turning your head to gaze at the archer over your shoulder. "Yeah. Can feel it. 'S different." You just smiled at him; loving how observing he was and cuddled further into his arms; enjoying every second of your reunion.
"Daryl?" You asked after a few minutes of pleasant silence. "Yeah?" You swallowed; picking at your nails. "Those Braxton Hicks I had the past days... They kinda, uh, gave me the creeps a little bit. I-I mean... I know now that the birth isn't very far away and that the real contractions will be way worse. That's... scaring." The archer nodded; biting the inside of his lower lip. "'M sorry 'bout that, sunshine.... Wish I could take tha' fear away, but... 'm afraid too. 'M scared of losin' ya or her, or hence even both 'a ya. But we gotta make this somehow, right? We're in this together. You 'n me. I ain't ever leavin' yer side."
To hear that Daryl had his fears as well was weirdly reassuring for you; knowing that you were truly not alone in this - in every aspect.
You laid your hands on top of Daryl's, which were still resting on your baby bump. "W-We gotta make it, yeah. You and me. Together." You felt Daryl nuzzling your neck; his goatee scratching your skin and his chapped lips aiming for a kiss. "Like we always do."
The following days and weeks were spent by the archer to help you through the Braxton Hicks contractions whenever you got hit by one, and through the pregnancy in general, of course. He was even more attentive and protective than in the beginning and was doing everything in his power to take away the stress and make you feel as comfortable as possible - which included pampering you. Endless foot rubs and back massages, running countless baths for you, getting you your latest craving - even in the middle of the night, and of course cooking food for you. The cooking wasn't always successful, but you loved the man for all the effort he put in. Daryl took you on walks around Alexandria regularly as well; making sure you'd get some fresh air. Certainly not outside the walls, but he'd accompany you everywhere you wished inside the walls.
Daryl even agreed on painting your nails, which ended in a mild disaster, but it definitely didn't fail to put a big smile on your face.
And when the tiny miracle inside you finally decided to see the light of the day and Daryl's hand was tightly locked with yours as you went through labour, you knew that everything would be alright, because you got Daryl and Daryl got you.

Daryl had a critical gaze directed at the darkening sky above him. The wind had picked up; bringing dark clouds over the Sanctuary. A thunderstorm was approaching - and fast.
Unbeknownst to him, had the archer started to chew on the inside of his bottom lip; causing you to gently squeeze his side. "Earth to Mr. Dixon," you giggled; trying to get his attention. "You okay, Dar?" The archer blinked and lowered his gaze back to you - his wife, who was neatly tucked against his side on a walk through the yard of the renewed Sanctuary; past the not yet growing crops which had been planted. You smiled up at him - slightly grimaced, but you smiled. He shook his head; "I shoulda been askin' you tha', sunshine..." eyes drifting to your prominent baby bump. You took a deep breath, but nodded. "Just Braxton Hicks, you know..."
Daryl's eyes drifted from your eyes to your (yet) unborn baby and back; a mix of worry and fear swimming in his blue-greyish orbs. You could tell. "Ya been havin' them already the whole day... Since we got up this mornin'. Ya sure this ain't the real thing?" Now you were the one shaking your head. "No. I promise, we're okay." "A'righ'." The archer jutted his chin towards the factory and looked back up in the sky. "Let's get ya back inside," he prompted and gave your hip a soft squeeze, before he started to walk; urging you on to follow. You nodded and scrunched your nose. "Yeah... Looks like rain."
With the first roll of thunder, Daryl closed the door behind you and him, without his hand leaving your body for even a second. He was so adamant to always be by your side; steady you and help you walk, it was ridiculously cute. It made you fall in love with the archer even more - not knowing it was even possible.
You giggled; one hand on the small of your back, the other on top of your belly. "Babe, you know I can stand on my own, right?" "Don care. Want ya close. 'Specially round 'ere... Ain't trustin' 'em..." You knew of course what he meant. The smile on your face immediately vanished; replaced by a concerned frown.
You understood Rick's intention; wanting to make Carl's last wish true. You'd do the same for your own child - within a heartbeat. You just didn't understand why Rick had charged Daryl of all people with the supervision of the Sanctuary. Sure, he was his bother, his right-hand-man, the one he possibly trusted most besides Michonne, but... After everything Daryl has been through here? After all the psychological torture? You knew it wasn't easy for your husband to be here. Even though he didn't say anything. You could feel it.
You took a step towards the archer; invading his space. Placing a hand on his chest and the other on his cheek, you scanned his face. "Daryl... You... You shouldn't be here. You shouldn't be the one having to do this. I'll have a-" You stopped dead in your sentence; eyes widening and heart leaping into your throat at the feeling you had just experienced. Daryl was immediately on alert; completely ignoring what you had just said. "Y/N?! Wha's goin' on?!" His free hand came to rest on the bump which was his child instantly.
You swallowed hard; taking a step away from him again and looked down yourself. A prominent wet patch was spreading across the crotch and inner thighs of your maternity sweatpants. "I-I think..." Your husband's eyes followed yours quick; realisation dawning on him right away. It could mean only two things...
1) You peed yourself.
Or
2) Your water broke.
The archer begged internally to whatever force above that it was not the latter. "Please tell me ya peed yerself..." Daryl mumbled under his shaky breath; already slightly on edge. It wasn't a fortunate moment for the baby to make their appearance... You were at the Sanctuary, for God's sake! Rosita and Eugene were the only one here you could truly trust. Not much medical supplies and even less people who knew how to birth a baby either.
"I-I'm honestly not sure, Dar..." He nodded; trying to keep his calm. "A'right. Let's, uh, get ya in a fresh pair of pants 'n check?" "Uh.Huh," you answered; nervously nibbling on your lip as well. You actually didn't want to 'do this to Daryl' now, but it wasn't like you could take a pick. It wasn't in your hands... It was in the tiny hands of the peanut living in your belly.
You felt your husband's strong arm around your waist once again; supporting you as best as he could and helping you to walk through the darkish, grey hallways of the 'former' enemies hideout and towards your shared room.
After the sweatpants and your panties were not much longer on your body, you and Daryl realised quickly that you did certainly not pee yourself. It was a different... substance - which meant the one thing the both of you hoped it wouldn't be... Your water broke.
"O-Oh, fuck, that's..." You cut off your own sentence; "W-What are we, uh, going to do now?" swallowing hard and balancing on one foot, while you gripped Daryl's shoulder as he helped you step inside a fresh pair of underwear and sweatpants.
The archer looked up at you; panic swimming in his blue-grey orbs. You could tell that his mind was working on overdrive to find an answer to your question. "I-I dunno, sunshine, I-" He inhaled a deep breath; eyes darting around the room. "Ya can't have the peanut here... 'S no doctor 'round. I ain't risking tha'..." Daryl shook his head and stood up; palms immediately lading on your hips. "W-We gotta get ya back to Alexandria. To Siddiq. Now." You nodded; clenching your jaw at the incoming contraction - and Daryl noticed, of course. "'N we gotta time 'em contractions. C'mon."
Trusting your husband and his decision making blindly, you quickly threw a few things you might needed in Daryl's beige backpack, while he was informing Rosita about the situation you found yourself in.
It didn't take the archer more than a few minutes to return to your side; giving you a helping hand and finally walking you back to the door, which led to the yard - but once he opened it, a harsh breeze hit him (and you) instantly; rain splattering across your faces.
Fuck... The thunderstorm... Daryl had totally forgotten about the weather conditions; too occupied with you and the baby. You did, too.
"Fuckin' shit," the archer cursed under his breath; trying to shield you from the rain with his broad body. "Well, that's gonna be a fun car ride, eh?" You halfway joked; trying to lift the mood, but without success. "I'll get the truck; park as close as somehow possible. No matter wha'... We have ta get ya back home."
The Sanctuary had borrowed a truck from the Hilltop for moving things and other 'heavy' stuff. It was the only car option Daryl got. Of course he couldn't take his bike. Hell no.
"Ya wait inside. Don want ya ta get wet 'n cold." You nodded; bracing yourself beside the door against the wall. "Ya good bein' alone?" Once again you nodded; giving him another half-smile. "Go." He gave you a last once over, before he stepped out in the rain to get the truck.
Soaked to the bones, he helped you down the stairs then and outside; sitting you in the passenger seat of the truck; not letting go of you for even a second. "Y-You're soaked, baby..." You noticed with a furrowed brow; concerned. "You'll catch a cold if you-" Your husband immediately interrupted you; shaking his head and squeezing your hand. "Doesn't matter. This ain't 'bout me. 'S 'bout ya 'n the baby."
You knew that arguing would be just a waste of time. It wouldn't help. And honestly were you way too tensed and stressed to discuss. So you said nothing.
"Ya comfortable, sunshine? Tha' okay fer now?" His voice was on edge. You could see how hard he was trying to not lose it. This spurred you even more on to keep a cool head yourself. After all, this was your first birth. Your first child. You wanted to panic and give into the nervousness, concern and fear, but you knew you couldn't. You had to try at least. For Daryl.
You nodded and gave him a soft smile. "Y-Yeah, I- We're good, I-I think. Thanks, babe." The small smile he gave you was sloshing over with nervosity and concern, but he tried as well.
Daryl quickly rounded the car and got inside the driver's seat; immediately starting the engine. "Let's get ya home." He started to drive, while you tried to focus on your breathing like Carol taught you. Both your hands splayed on your big baby bump; feeling the subtle movements of the child within you.
Some time passed until the next contraction hit you. You breathed through it; grimacing. "Damnit..." You gasped once the waves of pain subsided; noticing how Daryl gazed back and forth between a watch around his wrist you never saw before and the street. "Been 'bout forty minutes since the last one." You swallowed hard. "T-That's already quite close, isn't it?" He shrugged his shoulder. "I dunno, but... Feels like it." You shifted slightly in your seat and placed a hand on Daryl's hand, which was gripping the gear shift for dear life. "We're gonna make it, 'kay? Everything's gonna be okay," you tried to reassure Daryl - and yourself. You could see how he chewed on his bottom lip. "Shouldn't 'ave taken ya with me... Shoulda left ya back home where ya 'n the baby 'r safe 'n taken care of. Hell, I shouldn't 'ave left at all... 'S my fault tha' we gotta do this now."
You immediately shook your head and gave his hand another squeeze. "Dar, this is everything, but your fault. I was the one encouraging you to go... And I practically begged you to take me along, because I can't stand to be away from you - especially now. I knew the risk, but I made the decision. If anyone's to blame, it's me." Your husband just scoffed at your words and just as he actually wanted to answer, the sight of the street a few miles ahead forced him to stop the truck.
The thunderstorm hadn't calmed down in the slightest; was raging on and had caused a tree to fall and land in the middle of the street. "Shit... 'S too big ta move it... We have ta take a different road." His eyes landed on you, just like his hand on your swollen belly. "Can ya both hang on a lil' while longer? 'S a stupid question, ain't it?" You shook your head and gave him the most convincing smile you could muster in that moment. "It's not. I-I'll try... Right, peanut?" You addressed your unborn baby. "We'll try."
Unfortunately wasn't the fallen tree the only obstacle you had to overcome on your rushed journey to Alexandria... The storm was going on and definitely took its toll on the nature. And that wasn't the only problem... The night had settled over the world and the dead weren't exactly a help as well, and at some point were your contractions only fifteen minutes apart... It was a race against the time now - and your upcoming nerves. The closer you got to actually birthing your child, the worse it became. Fifteen minutes apart and you didn't even know if everything was fine and going the way it should down there. It was excruciating.
"Sonofabitch," you suddenly heard Daryl exclaim, which snapped you out of your thoughts. Lifting your gaze, you instantly understood what caused his small outburst... A few walkers were exactly in your way; stuck in the rain soaked, muddy ground. "Have ta get rid of 'em, sunshine," Daryl stated and already moved to unsheathe his knives from their confines; his barely dried clothes about to get soaked all over again. "I-I can help-" "Hell nah," he cut you off immediately; scoffing. "Yer stayin' right here inside the truck where ya 'r safe. I ain't riskin' a damn thing. Gotta keep ya safe." You nodded in defeat; realising once more that arguing wouldn't get you anywhere.
Daryl gave you a stern but loving look, before he took a deep breath and exited the truck. Anxiously, you watched your husband fighting off the undead threat. Sure, most of them were kinda stuck, but the noises had attracted more walkers... The headlights of the truck provided enough light for you to see what was going on in front of you, but not besides and certainly not behind the vehicle. The relentless rain made it difficult to see straight as well, and when another, much worse contraction hit you and the pain managed to blur your vision entirely, you lost sight of Daryl. Sweat was dripping over your brow as you couldn't hold back the scream which wanted to break free from your lips; hands clutching your baby bump. "O-Oh f-fuck..." Your fingers clenched into fists as you tried to breathe through the contraction. Agonisingly slow subsided the pain; leaving you breathless. You looked around through the windows; trying to find your husband. But you couldn't see him. It was quiet. Except for the running engine and the rain drumming down on the truck.
"D-Daryl?!" You called out; knowing very well that he couldn't hear you. Uneasiness crept up in you; threatening to cut off your airways and sent your anxiety skyrocketing. It didn't help that you were on edge already... What if something happened to him? What if he got bit? What if he...? Your brain already conjured the worst case scenarios, as suddenly two pale hands slammed against the window pane beside you; the tow curling growl almost giving you a heart attack. "Fucking hell!" You squeaked and clutched your now rapidly beating heart.
The hands clawed and scratched at the wet glass - but to your sheer endless relief didn't they stay long. With a dull thud hit the undead man's skull the window; blood splattering everywhere, before it got slowly washed away. The hands stilled, before they entirely disappeared. Blinking, you watched it happen, still somewhat caught up in your thoughts. But then, the driver's door got opened and slammed quickly shut again. A familiar grunt urged to your ears - and you could've cried of relief and happiness.
"Daryl!" You more or less whimpered; shifting in your seat as good as you could and turned to him; taking in his water and blood soaked appearance. Some blood was on his cheeks and water dripped down his long, brown hair. You reached for him; grabbed onto his wet sweatshirt and slippery vest. "A-Are you okay? I-I lost sight of you a-and..." You hiccuped; taking a deep breath. The archer immediately nodded and leaned in for a sweet, soft kiss; letting you feel that he was alive and well, before he moved to take your hands in his bigger ones. "'M good, sunshine. 'S a'right. 'M here." His blue eyes scanned your body then; lips pressed together in worry. "Wha' 'bout you?"
You swallowed hard. "H-Had another contraction..." His eyes widened. "Darlin', you had one barely ten minutes ago..." "I know." Daryl looked at you a few moments longer, before he gently let go of your hands and gripped the steering wheel instead. "We gotta keep movin'," he mumbled and kept on driving - and you knew he was right.
Luckily the truck didn't get stuck in the muddy mess ahead of you... That would've been the cherry on top.
It took you longer than planned to drive back to Alexandria, but in the end you finally made it - most likely just in time. You swore you were never that happy before to see the familiar gates of the place you called home. Daryl felt the same. You could tell.
The thunder and lighting had ceased by now. It was still raining, but not as bad. Due to the bad weather conditions was nobody on watch, but the archer knew that at least one person was positioned up in the windmill; looking out for threats from up there. So, he gave whoever was up there a sign; flashing the truck head lights three times and signalling that friends were standing in front of the walls and not enemies.
"Jus' a few minutes longer, sunshine. Almost there," Daryl tried to reassure you as he gently squeezed your hand. You just nodded; occupied with taking deep breaths.
Moments later, the gates got opened for Daryl to drive through, which he immediately did and headed straight for the infirmary; parking the car as close as he could get.
The approaching headlights must've caught Siddiq's attention, since the doctor immediately went to the door; trying to catch a glimpse of what was going on. He watched the archer quickly rounding the vehicle; getting soaked in the rain a third time. "Daryl?!" Siddiq called out; switching on his porch light. "What-" Daryl didn't let the man finish; cut him off mid sentence as he opened the door and helped you out. "Need yer help! Y/N's in labor!"
Siddiq didn't need more information. He knew and was immediately on high alert. The doctor opened the door and let the both of you in; instantly helping Daryl to steady you. Usually, he would've asked about your condition, but Siddiq knew the moment he saw you. "How far apart are the contractions?" You wanted to answer, but Daryl did for you. "'Bout six minutes." The black haired man nodded, "You got here just in time, I'd say." and helped you sit on the bed inside the room he had led you and Daryl in. "I'm afraid we have to get you out of these..." Siddiq nodded at your sweatpants. "Daryl, would you...?" Your husband's eyes were locked on you as he nodded slowly. "Yeah, I got it. C'mon, sunshine."
While Daryl helped you shimmy down your pants and panties, Siddiq prepared some things he needed in the upcoming hour(s)... Towels, gloves and some other medical stuff.
"Alright. I have to check on you. Is that alright?" Siddiq asked carefully; knowing how... protective and territorial the other present man in the room could get. You nodded; trying your hardest to not scream due to the contraction you were going through. The doctor noticed and placed a reassuring hand on your knee. "Deep breaths, Y/N. We got this, okay?" You gave your friend another nod, before he went to check as soon as your contraction subsided again.
"You're about eight centimetres dilated, I'd say." "'N tha' means?" Daryl spoke up with your hand neatly tucked in his, as he was standing by your side. "Two more and she'll be able to start pushing. Means, your baby will see the light of day in the next one or two hours." The colour visibly drained from the archer's face. He knew that he'd be a dad soon, but... That soon? You, on the contrary just groaned and threw your head against the pillow. "Thank fuck. I want this to be over... Hurts like a bitch - and I finally want to hold my baby."
Siddiq witnessed both very different reactions and tried to hide a smile; quickly deciding to give the soon-to-be-dad a little task to keep him from freaking out.
"Daryl?" The archer's gaze lifted from where he was staring at the floor and gnawing nervously on his thumb. "Could you get Carol? I might need her assistance." Daryl frowned in confusion, but the feeling which started to flood his veins was happiness. "She's here?" Siddiq nodded with a smile. "Yes. She was on the road and decided to stay for a few days. Might as well call it providence." The man nodded; shaking a few bangs of wild brown curls from his face and nibbled on his bottom lip again, but turned to you; needing your permission. "'S a'right if I go 'n get 'er, darlin'?" You nodded; sweat doting your forehead. "As long as you'll come back to me... Go. I'm in good hands." Your husband gave you a loving look and gently squeezed your hand, before he let go to get himself soaked in rain again - for the nth time... Not that he cared, though.
The archer didn't even had to ask where to look for his best friend. He knew. After all has she been sharing a house with the both of you, before she moved to the Kingdom. Where else to look but there
Opening the main door, he stepped inside; calling out for his friend. "Carol?!" It didn't take long for the grey haired woman to peak out from the kitchen in the hallways; frowning. The frown immediately vanished, though, when she saw who the 'intruder' was... "Daryl?" A bright smile darted over her face, as she quickly bridged the distance to hug her best friend. They hadn't seen each other in a while after all.
"Ya good?" He simply asked; definitely enjoying the embrace of the woman he got luckily stuck with since the very beginning of this shit show. "Yeah, I am. What about you? And especially Y/N?" Daryl instantly retreated from the hug; a frightening, but also happy look on his face. "W-Well, uh... S-She's in labor. 'S why I brought 'er back here... Siddiq sent me ta ask for yer help..." Carol's eyes widened, but she immediately scrambled for the kitchen to turn off the stove. "Of course, I'm coming to help! Can't miss my best friend becoming a daddy, can I?"
Daryl blinked. "Best friend? Really?" Carol ignored his sceptical question and grabbed him by the shoulders instead; turning him around and maneuvering him towards the door. There were more important things to do now than discuss that.
Siddiq's predictions had been quite on spot. About one and an half hour, quite a few painful contractions and several tiring and debilitating pushes later, you finally held your baby in your arms. Since the doctor's announcement that you gave birth to a - as far as he could tell, healthy little girl, Daryl's mind had gone blank. He was physically present, but mentally, he was somewhere lost in a haze; trying to process the life-changing information... A girl. His daughter. He was a father now. A father!
Of course, you noticed. Carol and Siddiq did, too and all of you decided to give him the space and time he needed right now; just letting him stare at the white wall across your bed.
Only once the afterbirth was done, you getting cleaned up as well as the baby, the umbilical cord cut by Carol (Daryl would've most likely fainted if he was asked to do it. He already looked as white as a ghost...), a few further instructions and information shared by both your friends, and your newborn daughter wrapped up in a diaper and a slightly too big beige romper suit with cute teddy bears on it, you decided to try to guide your husband out of the haze he still was in. Especially now that you were given some time alone...
"Daryl?" You called out softly; voice barely above a whisper to not startle him. He didn't react, so you tried again... Same result. Freeing a hand from the baby tucked against your chest, you reached out to gently touch his arm. "Babe..." You whispered; letting your palm glide down the length of the limb and brushing the clammy skin of his hand. "Hey..." That seemed to finally do the trick...
The archer blinked and redirected his glance; eyes focusing on you instead. "'M sorry, sunshine, I-" His words quickly died in his throat, when he finally saw his daughter nestled against you; greedily suckling on your exposed right breast and making the cutest little noises he had ever heard. You smiled tiredly and slipped your fingers through his; giving them a soft squeeze. "Your baby girl, Daryl... Your daughter..." He swallowed and lifted his free hand; almost hesitatingly hovering over the infant, before his pointer finger came into contact with her soft cheek.
Daryl gasped; releasing a breath he didn't even know he was holding. You watched the interaction with loving eyes; only now noticing that the small girl had stopped nursing and was wriggling around in your hold instead. Her eyes were closed and she had her legs pulled up against her belly; tiny fingers clenching and unclenching.
Your husband had cupped her head now, which was covered in a dark brown fuzz. "She's perfect, darlin'..." Daryl whispered after a long moment; smiling that smile you loved so much.
"Do you want to hold her?"
That question caused Daryl's hand to immediately stop caressing his daughter's head. "I-I..." He stammered; nervous, yet with such a strong urge. "Y-Yeah, I... I wanna hold 'er." You patted the empty space on the bed beside you. "C'mere, then." The archer followed your 'command' and switched from the chair to sit on the bed. Only now did you notice that he hadn't changed yet and that the shirt he wore was still damp. Worry roared to life within you. You didn't want him to catch a cold or even something worse...
"Baby, you should change... I don't want you to get sick..." Daryl shook his head. "Do want ta leave ya..." "I know..." You bit your lip; uncertain if you should propose the suggestion in your mind or not. "Then, uh... How about you take the shirt and vest off? Carol and Siddiq won't be here for at least another hour and skin-on-skin contact with your daughter would be good, too... Helps her bond with you." You gave him a soft smile. "It's your decision, though. I won't force you to do anything."
You could practically see the gears turning in your husband's head, but in the end he nodded and started to peel the damp clothes off his upper body. Once he was shirtless, you started to transfer the little girl over to her father. "Make sure to support her head, Dar," you instructed him; noticing his eager nod, and suddenly was the infant tucked in the crook of his arm. She snuggled against his bare chest; definitely enjoying the warmth of his skin.
And suddenly the world stopped to turn around Daryl.
He gazed down at the tiny human being he helped create - and she was the most wonderful, beautiful creature his eyes had ever seen (besides you, of course). Love flooded his veins; heart threatening to slosh over with the warm feeling.
Yes... He'd rip the world apart to keep her safe. Anything. Just to make sure his girls were protected.
You watched your husband and newborn daughter; a tired, but happy look on your face, and you realised soon, that everything had been worth it... Everything you've gone through. Every obstacle you and Daryl had to overcome, just to get here - to experience this moment. She was worth it.
You smiled. Yeah... You could definitely get used to Daryl being a dad...

Warm, pleasant sunlight greeted you as you rolled out of bed. Smiling, you tiptoed barefoot over to the open window; letting the sun warm your skin for a moment and to take in a deep breath of the fresh morning air. It was going to be a very beautiful day today in Alexandria, as it seemed - much to your delight. Why? Because you'd be a woman on a mission today.
Of course you didn't fail to notice, that the other side of the bed was already cold and empty. Not quite surprising when your boyfriend was Daryl Dixon. You got used to mostly waking up alone. That made the mornings you did not wake up alone even more enjoyable and valuable.
Stretching your still tired limp, you made your way across the hallway to the bathroom; paying the toilet a quite urgent visit. After relieving your bladder of its burden, you made your way downstairs; actually aiming for the kitchen, but when you noticed the main door being ajar, you halted in your movements. Usually, the main door wasn't ajar - except when... You smiled and changed your direction; heading straight for the door. Peaking outside, your suspicion was proven right. Daryl was leaning against the wooden post, which stabilised the roof over the porch. Smoke was billowing in clouds through the air.
Not giving a flying fuck that you wore nothing more than your panties and one of Daryl's way too big t-shirts, you tiptoed over to him with a smile; running your arms over his back and encircling his waist. "I thought you already left," you prodded; pressing a kiss against his leather clad back. The archer didn't even flinch. He knew it was you. It wasn't the first time you had done this. All that was coming from him was a scoff. "Ain't leavin' withou' sayin' goodbye, sunshine. Ya know tha'." "Mhm," you hummed and rested your head against his back. You didn't say much and just enjoyed to hold him; letting his familiar scent invade your airways and clouding your brain. Daryl didn't have to say another word as well. He kept on smoking; finishing his cigarette, before stubbing it out and - well-behaved disposed the stub in the ashtray you placed on the railing of the porch, like you told him. You had been tired of collecting the cigarette stubs all over the porch, so you taught him to get rid of them properly; saving trouble and your nerves.
The archer turned in your embrace then; calloused hands finding your hips and deft fingertips playing with the fabric of his t-shirt. He raised an eyebrow. "Ain't ya cold, sunshine?" Daryl asked; referring to your - some would say flimsy - outfit. You shook your head. "A little bit. But I don't care. You're warm and I just want to stay like this," you smiled up at him with a cute scrunch of your nose, before you buried your face in his chest. A grunt - very close to a small chuckle left his lips; hands wandering and arms wrapping you up in a hug.
The two of you stayed like that for a long while, until a whistle cut through the air, causing both your heads to turn to the left. Rick was standing down the street, waving at his brother and signalling him that they were good to go. "Gotta go, darlin'," Daryl stated the obvious and loosened the embrace around you - much to your dismay, but knew that you had to let go. "Be careful, yeah? I want your pretty ass back in one piece, understood?" You warned in a loving manner; gently caressing his sides. The archer scoffed at your words. "Ain't pretty." You giggled, "Yes, yes it is." and gave his ass a playful swat - which caused his cheeks to redden. "Y/N!" You just giggled more and shrugged your shoulders. Daryl was so cute when he was embarrassed. "Goddammit, woman..." He groaned and sighed almost overdramatic. You stood on your tippy-toes and pressed a sweet, apologising kiss on his chin; feeling his goatee tickle your lips.
And then you quickly shifted back from playful to serious. "I mean it, Daryl. Stay safe, okay? Look after yourself and Rick." He nodded and gently put his thumb and forefinger underneath your chin; softly angling your head upwards. "I promise. Ain't gettin' rid a me." "Good." You smiled and squeezed his middle softly; wordlessly asking for a kiss - and Daryl granted your wish. He dipped his head and met your lips for a sweet, but quick kiss.
"Think we'll be back 'fore dark." You nodded and let go of him; crossing your arms over your chest and watched the man you loved shoulder his crossbow and disappear down the street.
After starting properly into the day - which included a shower, getting dressed, brushing teeth and having a breakfast, you reported for watch duty; taking over for Rosita.
Once your shift was over, you baked some cookies and then finally had the time for the one thing you had planned today. Like mentioned... You were a woman on a mission... Namely giving Daryl's dirty bike a thorough scrub. The archer's beloved two-wheeler was more than dirty. Dirty was an understatement... Since he was more than occupied with leading the Sanctuary, building a bridge and doing runs, his bike was the one suffering from his busy schedule book. Therefore, that he drove with Rick to the bridge today, his bike was here - and that gave you in return the perfect opportunity to get the second love of his life spruced up. Plus, you wanted to surprise Daryl with it, because why not? He deserved it. And the bike as well.
So, you rolled the bike out of the small garage and on the little courtyard in front of the cute little house you and Daryl shared. "Alright, let's do this!" You said to yourself; preparing a bucket with hot water, some soap you found and a sponge. Before you got started, though, you pulled the little walkman you found out of the pocket of the shorts you wore, alongside the familiar cassette. Daryl found that walkman on a run a few months ago, together with a ton of cassettes and of course, he immediately thought of you - and you loved the archer for it.
You plucked in the headphones, pressed play and started your good work.
The music was loud. Not loud enough to attract any walkers or other possible threats outside the walls, but loud enough to be clearly heard by everybody who'd walk by. You didn't care, though. You were in the zone; somewhere on music cloud nine, all while dancing and vibing - and cleaning your boyfriend's motorcycle.
Therefore, that you were so caught up in your music and the task at hand, you neither realised how the sun started slowly to sink, nor how the archer walked down the street to your shared house; crossbow slung over his shoulder.
Music urged to Daryl's ears as he stopped right in front of the courtyard; eyes locked on you - cleaning his bike. The archer didn't have the time to question himself why the fuck you were doing that, since you started humming alongside to the tunes of 'Whole Lotta Love'. Led Zeppelin... Daryl shook his head; unable to suppress the smirk which wanted to spread over his lips. It was another moment in which he realised that he had fallen in love with the right woman.
It was all fun and games, until you picked up the dancing again - and oh, boy, you were a real good dancer...
It was so cliché. Who didn't know the typical image of a hot chick cleaning half naked a vehicle to preferably sexy music? Lots of soapy foam, sponges and wet bikini tops. If this would be a form, Daryl could tick all boxes - except that the bikini top was a sports bra.
He had to take a deep breath.
Damnit, it was cliché, but Daryl didn't give a fuck. He settled for enjoying the show and see how long it took you to notice him. So, he moved to sit on the porch, set aside his crossbow, lit a cigarette and let his blue-grey eyes linger on you; feeling his jeans just grow a little tighter.
Once the song was over, you gave the bike's saddle a last, finishing scrub, took a step back and admired your work. Smiling, you removed the headphones, from which the next rock song was already blaring; hands on your hips and definitely satisfied with the outcome of your mission. You were sure that Daryl was absolutely going to- "Thing ain’t ever looked tha' good. Not even 'fore I put it together."
The archer's voice suddenly sounding from behind you caused you to almost jump out of your skin. Turning quickly, you found your boyfriend sitting casually on the porch; cigarette pinned between his thumb and forefinger. "Fucking hell, Daryl!" You exclaimed; taking a deep breath. "You scared the shit out of me!" The man squeezed an eye shut and ducked his head slightly. "Sorry. Didn't mean ta scare ya."
You smiled, shook your head and crossed your arms over your chest; feeling the wetness of the water and soap soaking the fabric of your bra even further. "How long have you been sitting there?" Daryl shrugged his shoulders; eyes definitely not directed on your face. More like... one floor below. "Dunno, least five minutes or so..." You raised an eyebrow; noticing immediately that he was a liiittle bit distracted. "Enjoyed the show, huh?"
Daryl licked his lips and finally lifted his gaze to meet yours. "Woulda lie if I said I didn't." He jutted his head at you and his beloved vehicle. "Did ya swap the horse fer ma bike now, sunshine?" You giggled; shaking your head. The archer knew that you mostly preferred one of the horses over an vehicle, so he just couldn't let the opportunity slip to tease you.
But you quickly recovered from the scare he had given you and unbeknownst to him ruining his own surprise. So, you had to make the best out of the situation and his forward pass - namely, pot the ball.
"Nope," you started; popping the p, "Just gave it the much needed scrub." and moved to lean against the bike; palms on the saddle to support your weight. "I'm rather saving the horse and steel horse and ride the cowboy instead."
You could've sworn that his jaw was on the verge of dropping, but Daryl Dixon being Daryl Dixon, masked his emotions and opted to play it cool instead. "Pff. Cowboy my ass."
Once more you raised an eyebrow at his reaction. "Oh, apologies, your majesty. I'll rephrase it." You cleared your throat. "I'm rather saving the horse and steel horse and ride the smokin' hot, crossbow wielding archer sitting on my porch instead." Daryl scoffed and merely shook his head. "Ain't 'smokin' hot'. If someone's smokin' hot 'round here, 's you."
You sighed; feeling flattered and a little sad at the same time. Flattered, because of Daryl's cute attempt to flirt, and sad because the wonderful, special, beautiful man across from you still had a hard time accepting compliments.
You'd work on that, but first you had to finish what you started - or might as well both.
Shaking your head, you made your way over to Daryl and climbed the few steps leading up to the porch and reached for the archer's free hand. "C'mon, handsome. We gotta save those bikes and horses..." He immediately shuffled and moved to stand up. "Can't say no to tha'," Daryl took a last drag of his cigarette and quickly discarded it into the ashtray; following you and leaving his crossbow behind on the porch. He wouldn't need it. Not for the next few hours.
Loki: *paces slowly and intimidately up and down the room, almost like a predetor*

The sun was about to set when you made your way out of the C-Block. Snuck was probably the more fitting word, though. You snuck your way out of the C-Block. To your luck was everybody else occupied with other things, so you had more or less free rein to get unnoticed to your destination... The watch tower. Once you reached the yard, you adjusted the rifle strapped around your shoulder; a victorious smile spreading on your lips.
You crowed too soon.
"Y/N?" A very familiar voice suddenly cut through the air and caused you to stop dead in your motion. "What are you doing out here? Where are you goin'? It's almost dark..." Maggie... Your sister.
"Damn..." You cursed under your breath; now seeing her approaching you, wearing some of the police gear. A bloody knife was in her hands.
You lifted your head to meet her eyes. "I could ask you the same, y'know," you retorted playfully; hoping that you'd somehow get out of this situation. Maggie frowned for a moment; stepping closer. "Been out with Glenn; fixing the fence and gettin' rid of some walkers." "Ah..." You nodded, "Ya sure do look like it." and giggled; still hoping to get away.
"Where are you goin'? We shouldn't walk 'round here alone. Especially at night. Even though the yard is cleared." "I'm not plannin' to walk around," you immediately said; lifting your hands in surrender. "Don't worry, sis." Your sister crossed her arms over her armoured chest; a stern expression on her face - and you knew immediately that she wasn't up for jokes anymore. She was being serious now. "Spit it out, Y/N - and it better be the truth." You sighed defeated; knowing that you had lost. Well, perhaps you were just really bad at lying and keeping a pokerface. "I wanted to go to the watch tower," you finally admitted; nodding towards the tall building at the foot of the prison. "The watch tower?" Maggie raised a suspicious eyebrow. "Since when are you on watch this late?" "I'm not." You shook your head. "But, uh, Daryl is."
Maggie looked at you surprised. "Daryl?" You nodded; biting your lip. "Uh.Huh. Thought I keep him company for a bit." "Keep him company?" "Mhm."
Your sister gave you a suspicious look, before crossing her arms over her chest. "Is there somethin' I should know about?" "No," you said, but the pink on your cheeks was betraying you. "Y/N..." Maggie pushed; your awkward behaviour rising only more suspicions. "Okay, fine!" You sighed once more. Yeah. you had lost. For real now. Maggie wouldn't let you go without telling her the whole truth. She took her sister role very seriously.
"I, uh, I really like Daryl. Have been since the farm and well, uh, we're kinda together?"
A big smile stretched over Maggie's face. "Honestly? I suspected that you two were a thing." You blinked; shocked and surprised. "W-Wha'? How?" Her smile widened as stepped closer; wrapping an arm around you. "The looks you give each other? Him always making sure you're safe? Especially when we were on the road? I noticed, sis. You two were being not quite subtle..." Your cheeks reddened even more at her words. "Hey, sweetie. No need to be embarrassed 'bout it. I'm happy for you, truly. Daryl is a good man - but if he hurts you, I'll still cut off his balls." You couldn't help but giggle; your nervosity finally melting away. "He won't, Maggie. He's a keeper." "I know. I'm just sayin'..." Your sister said and started to walk away. Halfway, though, she turned back to face you; a smug grin on her lips. "Hey, sis?" "Yeah?" "If you need some, Glenn and I can spare a few condoms," she hollered over; winking and causing you to blush once again. "Maggie!" "What?" She laughed. "Wrap it 'fore you tap it." You rolled your eyes and reached inside your pocket; fishing for something. Once you found the little foil package, you lifted it up for Maggie to see. "I know! I'm prepared!"
Your sister's smirk even widened, "See you in the morning then." and winked at you once more. Before she could walk away, you stopped her. "Maggie?" Again she faced you. "Don't tell daddy yet, okay?" Your sister nodded, "I won't. This is up to you." and truly walked away this time.
Your gaze lingered on her for a moment, before you made your way to the watch tower; silently closing the door behind you and walking up the steps to reach the top door. Cautiously, you stepped inside; finding Daryl gazing out of the window.
"Yer late," his deep, gruff voice urged to your ears as he turned with the tiniest smirk twitching on the corner of his lips. "Yeah, sorry 'bout that. I, uh, ran into my sister on the way." He shook his head, "'No need ta apologise, darlin'. Hell, 'm happy ya even came." and put his crossbow carefully down; leaning it against the wall beside you rifle.
You raised a playful eyebrow at him. "Why on earth shouldn't I? This is the first time we have some real privacy since the farm." Daryl shrugged his shoulders; chewing on his bottom lip. "Dunno. Coulda lost interest in me or somethin'." "Lose interest in you?" You asked almost in disbelief, "Daryl..." and stepped closer to the archer. You casually leaned against his broad body; hands playing with the buttons of his ruby coloured shirt. "I will never lose interest in you. I love you way too much for that - and the things you make me feel."
A small, smug smirk tugged at the corners of his mouth. "The things I make ya feel, huh? Tha' good?" You scoffed and playfully slapped his chest. "You know damn well it is."
The archer held your intense gaze for another moment, before he cupped your cheeks and without further ado connected your lips with his; dragging you into a fierce, passionate kiss. A kiss which was enough to light up the fire between you.
With his lips still hungrily moving against yours, Daryl's big hands went to grab your waist and swiftly turn you around in order to urge you forward. When the back of your thighs collided with the edge of a little desk, you knew what Daryl had in mind. Before you were even able to finish your thought, one of Daryl's strong arms engulfed your waist and effortlessly lifted you onto the desk. A soft squeak escaped your lips at his sudden movement, but it quickly faded into a moan as the archer started to latch on your neck; his arm still firmly wrapped around you.
"D..." You gasped and tried to somehow signal him that you were in desperate need of more; arms clinging to his broad upper body. But the man was so lost in you and your sweet scent, that he didn't notice. So, you had to take the steering wheel.
Wrapping your legs around his thighs, you urged him closer; hips colliding with yours. A deep, guttural grunt left Daryl's lips. He pulled back to look at you; pupils blown wide - swallowed by love and desire. Now he got the hint.
Wetting his lips, he made quick work to open your tech-wear pants. "Get rid of 'em, will ya?" He grunted with a nod; now undoing his own rugged jeans. You giggled at his sudden impatience; shedding your pants and underwear, before hopping back onto the desk.
Daryl stepped between your open legs; calloused fingers dancing over your bare thighs, causing goosebumps to spread across your skin.
In a swift motion, he hooked his palms underneath the back of your knees and pulled you forwards; lips crashing against yours once again. Before your hazy brain was able to catch up, were Daryl's hips moving against yours. All you could do was moan into his kiss and hold onto the archer for dear life.
"D-Daryl..." You breathed; fingers clawing into his angel-winged vest. You could feel him shaking his head against your shoulder. "I-I know, s-sunshine," he grunted; biceps bulging at how tightly he grasped the edge of the wooden desk. You moaned; burying one hand in his hair, which had grown quite a lot in the past months.
Moments later, you fell into the sweet abyss of pleasure together.
The archer was panting hard against your neck; palms now resting on your thighs. "I love ya, too." You giggled and turned your head to press a lingering kiss against his scruff cheek.

You were standing in front of the stove inside the big communal kitchen of the Avengers compound; baking your world famous chocolate caramel cupcakes. Everybody loved the sweet treat. Even Nick.
It was a little gesture from you - and Loki - who actually wanted to help you, in order to show your gratitude towards everybody who helped you organise your wedding. With Natasha leading the way as your maid of honour and of course Thor as Loki's best man.
Currently you were preparing the caramel cream; humming along to the music which blasted through the over-ear headphones on your head. Since turning sugar into caramel took its time, you definitely needed some entertainment. If you only knew where your soon-to-be husband was...
Once you had added the cream to the caramel and kept on stirring the mixture inside the pot to Taylor Swift's '22', you couldn't help but move to the tones. But once the next song came on, your heart skipped not just one beat... With your eyes widening and lips parting into a big, dreamy smile, you immediately recognised that Spotify just decided to hit you with one of the two songs you were going to have your wedding dance to with Loki - wonderful memories to me made.
The coordinated stirring turned into aimless scratching across the bottom of the pot as your thoughts drifted off; reminiscing in the past and creating the future.
"Which constellation is that over there, my love?" Your gaze followed the direction Loki pointed to. "Uhh..." You frowned in concentration, "I think that should be Cassiopeia - but..." and squinted your eyes. "Something isn't right..." "What do you mean, love?" "There's a star in the constellation that shouldn't be there... Cassiopeia looks like a 'W', but... there's a star too much. It doesn't belong there." Loki let out a short gasp of realisation. "Ahh you mean that one star on the top left corner?" "Yes! Can you see it? Why is it there? This actually can't be..." A knowing smile crept up Loki's face. "Well, about that, I think I have an answer for that." You blinked at your boyfriend in confusion. "You have?" He nodded and sat up, before he summoned some magic. "Look up, my love." You were still confused, but did what Loki said, looked back at the wrong star constellation - and gasped. "W-What is happening now?" The extra star had started to shine brightly all of a sudden and with a snap of Loki's fingers, it... sunk down? Straight towards the two of you. Your eyes widened, as you grabbed on the God's forearm. "L-Lokes, what's... What's that? What's happening?!" Loki just smiled, with the star getting closer and closer. "Lokiiii!" The closer it came, the smaller it got, which left you even more confused. But you soon noticed, that it actually wasn't a star... It was something different... Something shiny... You watched with awe, as the 'star' flew straight into Loki's opened palm. It was a... ring with a shining green emerald on top? You had been so utterly fascinated by the spectacle above you, that you didn't recognise that your boyfriend had gotten on one knee beside you, neither that he was dressed in an all-black suit now. Your brain tried to process what was happening and when you had connected the dots, your eyes widened... A ring. Loki, wearing a suit, kneeling in front of you. This was a proposal.
Your smile even widened as the song led you down memory lane; causing you to experience Loki's proposal all over again.
Loki smiled softly and gave your hand a gentle squeeze. "That was the start of everything... We talked a lot, met up in the library to read together, went on dates and at some point... You just kissed me. The rest is history. I had never been happier in my life, than I am with you now. I spent my whole life searching for a meaning - a glorious purpose... And then I realised, that you are what I was always searching for. You are my glorious purpose, Y/N. You showed me a whole new world. A world filled with love and kindness. You have given this new world to me and now I want to ask you, if you'd like to become my world..." The God took another deep breath, before he popped the question. "Y/N Y/L/N, would you do me the honour to make you entirely and for always mine? Will you marry me?"
You were sunken so deep in the song and the memories, that you didn't notice Loki entering the communal kitchen.
"Apologies, my love, I know I am late, but Rogers-" The god already rumbled out an apology, only to freeze in his motion as he realised a few seconds later that you were totally lost in your thoughts. He could tell. Must be some very good thoughts, Loki noted and decided to approach you gently.
He tiptoed over to the stove and kitchen counter; coming to stand behind you. Loki lurked over your shoulder; gazing from your smiling face down to the almost burnt caramel cream and back up to you. He hated to rip you out of your seemingly wonderful daydream, but he had to, right?
Slowly wrapping one arm around your waist, Loki lifted one shell of the headphones. "I apologise for interrupting your daydream, my love, but you should really keep on stirring this sugary treat."
His mouth so close to your ear; the hot breath leaving his lips and his deep, but gentle voice did the trick and ripped you out of your thoughts.
You flinched slightly; blinking rapidly, "Loki?" before your brain managed to caught up. "Oh shit!" You yelped up and quickly stirred the caramel cream, all the while reducing the heat.
Loki chuckled from behind you; wrapping both his arms around your waist and pulling you closer against his body. "Apologies, darling, but I just had to..." You sighed; blushing. "Thank you, babe... I-I, uh, got lost in my thoughts." Loki's chest vibrated with another chuckle, "I noticed." before he pressed a kiss against your neck. "What were you thinking about? You looked so happy."
The mere mention caused you to smile again. "You, of course." "Me?" "Mhh..." You manoeuvred the pot from the stove and turned in Loki's embrace. "Spotify decided to hit me with 'Can't Help Falling in Love' and well... Since our wedding is still yet to come, it took me to the very evening you proposed to me."
The god couldn't help but smile as well. He pressed his forehead against yours; thumbs caressing the clothed skin of your lower back. "I love to return to this memory of ours. I could swear that I still see the sparkle in your eyes. The beautiful look on your face when you said 'Yes' will be forever carved into my mind."
You nodded. "Just like I will never forget the way you asked the question. You in that suit, with the ring resting in your palm..." You quickly glanced at your hand, which was laying on Loki's shoulder; your engagement ring shining in the sun. "... and you down on your knee in front of me..."
Mischief suddenly twinkled in your fiancé's eyes, as the corners of his lips lifted. "You can have me down on my knees for you anytime, love." You gasped at his very ambiguous comment, "Lokiii!" and gently slapped his shoulder. "I was being so romantic and then you just pull it on the dirty side!" The god just giggled, "Apologies, my love, but I couldn't let this opportunity slip." and dipped his head to kiss you.
"No, but honestly, darling... I meant what I said. I love to return to this moment." You smiled; kissing him again.
"Remember when we told my parents?" Loki asked then after a short moment of silence. "Oh, yes, of course. Frigga was so happy..." Loki snorted out a small, happy laugh. "She cried of happiness." You nodded. "She did."
Another beat of silence passed.
"I can't wait to marry you, Prince Loki Laufeyson of Asgard."
Loki lifted a hand to softly cup your cheek. "And I can't wait to marry you, Y/N Y/L/N, queen of my heart." He gazed into your eyes; smiling, before he abruptly stepped out of your embrace. "But before I make you my wife, I'm going to help you bake those delicious cupcakes."

You were in Dale's RV, peacefully napping on the little bench with your back pressed up against the window and your body squashed between the back rest and the small table. Your actual plan was to study the map Hershel had given your group, in order to search for Sophia - and not to doze off, but well... Your body had a different opinion on your priorities. And you'd have definitely slept for another while, if not a loud noise ripped you cruelly out of your sleep.
You shot up; heart hammering against your chest. A gunshot. It was a gunshot! "Shit," you cursed and scrambled to get up. On slightly wobbly feet - due to your rushed movements, you more or less stumbled down the few steps of the RV and immediately ran to the front. You saw Rick, Shane, T-Dog and Glenn up ahead on the meadow in distance waving and shouting something like mad men.
"What happened?" You asked and looked to your right, where Dale stood on the little ladder which led to the RV's roof. Andrea kneeled on top; rifle in hands and smiling victoriously. "Apparently a walker made-," was all Dale could say, before he got interrupted by quick footsteps coming from the house and Hershel's voice.
"What on earth is going on out here?" He yelled; all the other's gathering around him. All eyes were directed on the four men, but when they started to crouch around the 'walker' and lift him up to his feet, everybody soon realised that the walker was definitely not a walker.
"Oh my god, is that...?" Andrea spoke almost in a panicked voice; quickly ushering Dale down the ladder, so that she could climb down as well.
You took a few steps forward; squeezing your eyes shut to identify the 'walker', but deep down, you already knew. No ten seconds later, your eyes widened; heart rate picking up again. "Daryl! Oh my god, that's Daryl!" You started to run; Andrea following you behind.
"I-Is he dead?" You asked Rick and Shane - who had each draped one arm of the archer over their shoulders and carrying him, in a quivering voice. Rick shook his head. "Nah, just unconscious," the leader answered; then turned his gaze to a shaken Andrea. "Bullet only grazed him."
Slight relief washed over you, but your worries nevertheless didn't cease. Daryl looked bad. All caked in dirt and mud; his top soaked in blood. You couldn't tell if it was his own or from walkers.
Chewing on your thumbnail, you watched how Shane and Rick dragged the archer inside the house, so that Hershel could take care of his wound. You hesitatingly followed them and sat down on the steps of the porch; soon getting lost in thoughts.
It wasn't like you and Daryl were a thing or something. Actually not at all. However, you had grown very fond of him the past days and weeks. Something intrigued you and seemed to draw you closer to Daryl. You liked him. A lot. Most of the group only saw his rough and edged exterior, but you also saw that he had also a different side. His selflessness. Braveness. Protectiveness. You knew Daryl was a good man.
Almost everyone of the group had noticed, of course, that you had cast an eye on the crossbow-wielding redneck. You weren't quite subtle in your words and gestures; how you acted around him. You, though, you were oblivious to the others observations.
"Hey, Y/N," a voice urged to your ears and caused you to snap out of your thoughts. Turning your head to the left, you saw how Lori placed a hand on your shoulder. "You okay?"
You gave her a soft smile. "Yeah, sure." She nodded and gestured towards the main door. "You should go to him," Lori said and gave you a wink as she passed you by. "He's upstairs." Your eyes followed the brown haired woman, before they travelled over to the door. Biting your lip, you stood up and made your way inside.
Just as you set foot in the hallway, you saw Hershel exiting a room to the left; some medical stuff in hands. The older man saw you approaching and gave you a nod. "H-How is he? Is it bad?" Hershel shook his head. "He'll live. A few days of rest and he should be a'right again." Now you were the one who nodded. "Thank you." He gave you an uptight smile as he passed you by. "Can I, uh, go to him?" "Of course." With those words, Hershel was out of your sight; left you standing alone in the hallway.
You stared at the doorhandle for a moment, took a deep breath and knocked. A gruff 'Yeah' coming from inside the room allowed you to step inside. So, you did.
Gently closing the door behind yourself, your eyes fell on Daryl, who was snugly wrapped up in a blanket on the bed; a bandage around his head. At the sound of your footsteps, he turned; now facing you.
"Hey," you softly greeted him; giving him a small smile. "Thought I'll come look after you..." You were still concerned about his well-being. After all, he was shot - even though the bullet just grazed. "How are you feeling?"
Daryl shook his shoulders with a grunt. "'M fine." You weren't neither convinced by the answer nor were you believing that he was telling the truth, but you decided to leave it for now. So, you just nodded and sat down on the edge of the bed beside him; gently placing a hand on his arm. Your skin on his didn't fail to send a shiver down your spine. This bold, simple gesture was already enough to drive the butterflies within your stomach wild - and not just yours...
You were totally oblivious to Daryl's slight flinch as you suddenly touched his arm; eyelids fluttering for just a moment. It wasn't like the others from the group hadn't 'touched' him before... A clap from Rick on the back, Carol's hand on his shoulder. Simple gestures, which he usually wasn't fond of. Bad memories were connected with touch, so he learned to avoid it. But your touch... Your palm on his forearm... That was different.
"What happened?" You whispered. Daryl could see worry in your eyes. Honest concern. You didn't just ask out of politeness, no... You meant it.
Once more he shrugged his shoulders; trying to play it cool. "Horse threw me off, fell down a slope 'n well... Caused one of ma arrows to kinda impale me." Your eyes widened. "Hang on, wha'? You got impaled by your arrow?!" "Yeah, 's not a big deal." You felt how your heart sped up. "Not a big deal?! Daryl, you could've died!"
He shook his head. "Nah. I ain't jus' die like a pussy. 'S a boring death. 'Sides Hershel got me fixed again."
You blinked; little bit overwhelmed by the information and his words. You swallowed; worry taking over then once again.
"Are you in pain? Is there something I can do for you?"
And that was the moment Daryl's cool façade started to crumble down entirely. You were so sweet and kind to him - something he didn't deserve. And yet you willingly gave it to him. From that day on, Daryl stopped pushing you away. He let you stay with him while his wounds healed; let you entertain him with a book you read out loud or some of your funny childhood and teenager stories. You brought him food, made sure he stayed hydrated in the Georgia heat and cleaned his wounds and changed the bandages. You were no nurse, but you had at least a little experience.
"I don't hurt you, do I?" You asked while you carefully dabbed the wound on his temple, where Andrea's bullet had grazed him. "Nah, ya don't. 'S all good." "Good." You gave Daryl a small smile, before you concentrated on cleaning the wound again. Daryl's blue-grey eyes watched you intensely; saw the frown on your face and the tip of your tongue poking out between your closed lips. His heart fluttered. You looked cute - and he could've watched you for several hours like this, but unfortunately you were way to quickly finished and before he could blink, you had patched his wound again and with that your touch was gone.
"There you go. All finished." "Thank you," Daryl croaked out; his voice definitely more hoarse than usual. You nervously tucked a loose strand behind your ear, "Of course." before meeting his gaze; looking into his beautiful blue-grey orbs.
The tension between you and him was literally cuttable with a knife as you stared into each other's eyes; totally lost. Neither of you didn't even notice how you moved closer. Daryl propping himself up on his elbows, while you leaned down; on your way to meet him halfway.
But when the redneck's brain finally managed to catch up with the situation he was in and suddenly realised that he was inches away from kissing you, his mind panicked and immediately went to pull up the invisible walls he had built around himself through the years - and so Daryl turned his head away, before your lips could touch his; clearing his throat.
"I should... I should get some more sleep."
You immediately sat back on your haunches; the beautiful, intimate moment gone. Bursted in front of your eyes like a bubble. You cleared your throat as well; nodding. "Yeah, I, uh, I should go, too. 'S getting dark soon, so, uh, time for dinner, right?" You tried to stay cool and just play off what happened a few seconds ago, but you were not very good at it - and Daryl noticed. Nevertheless, he played along.
"Yeah, right."
You gave him a soft, uptight smile and got up. "I, uh, I'll come back later to bring you dinner, okay?" "Alrigh'." Another awkward smile crossed your lips, before you went to leave hit tent; zipping it shut behind yourself.
The moment you were gone, Daryl led himself fall back down on his sleeping bag with a frustrating groan; rubbing the heels of his hands into his eyes. He wanted to kiss you. He really wanted to - but he just got cold feet. His fear of letting someone getting too close to him in the way.

"Ya sure the kids 'r asleep?" Daryl panted out; his chest heaving with every ragged breath he took. You bit your lip and smiled up at him as you leaned against the doorframe to your shared bedroom; hands fumbling with the lapels of his angel-winged vest. The archer had caged you with his bulky figure. One forearm pressed against the wood just over your head and a firm grip on your right hip which left you not much space to escape. Something you wouldn't even want anyway.
Your eyes travelled up and down your man's body; taking in the dishevelled state he was in. His chestnut brown hair a mess, black shirt halfway unbuttoned and his already low hanging ripped jeans hung even lower around his hips now since you had opened the belt, button and fly.
Yeah, he was a mess - but certainly a hot mess.
Forcing yourself to redirect your gaze on his face again; you nodded. "Fast asleep. Checked on 'em before we got ourselves in this... situation." Daryl's eyes thoroughly scanned your features. "Does that mean ya did tis on purpose, sunshine? Gettin' us in a situation?"
You couldn't suppress the small smirk your lips wanted to curl in. "Maybe..." Was all you answered. "Naughty girl," murmured Daryl in a low voice. It caused a shiver to run down your spine. "Mhm," you hummed; pulling gently at his leather vest to encourage your husband to lean in closer in the hopes of getting to taste his lips again.
To say you were desperate for him was almost an understatement. After all, was he five long days gone. Five long days in which you didn't know if you'd see him again or not. Time with the people you love was precious in the apocalypse; not knowing when it was running out. You just had to have him all over you and in every which way possible.
The archer gave into your gentle tug, of course and leaned in; brushing his lips against yours. Kissing him felt like balm on your aching heart - but you needed more.
Your fingertips travelled over his clothed stomach; quickly finding the last button you opened and continued your good work to expose more of his strong torso.
"I should shower first, sunshine. Got quite a bit dirty on that mission..." Daryl whispered against your slightly opened lips. You shook your head, "Don't care." and just kept on kissing him.
Skin met skin, as your hand travelled back up to cup his cheek; deepening the kiss. Mostly you were the one calling the shots when it came to sex, but this time was your husband the first to make a move...
The hand on your hip twitched and pulled you forwards against his body, before Daryl bent his knees and cupped your ass to lift you off the ground. A small squeak escaped your lips, since you hadn't seen that coming.
He made quick work to close and lock - which was important when you had a teenager and a four-year-old running around the house - the door, and literally threw you on the bed; causing you to giggle.
You were slightly disappointed when you noticed that your man didn't join you right away, but when he started to strip himself off his clothes, you weren't complaining at all. Biting your lip and raking your hungry eyes over his body, you watched his every move. First, he took off his angel-winged vest and placed the leather garment he loved so much in front of him on the mattress. Then he shrugged off his black shirt and threw it carelessly aside.
In every other situation, you'd have giggled at the difference between how he treated his vest and other clothes. In this situation, though, it was just downright sexy.
Since you already opened the archer's tattered jeans halfway, he only had to remove his knives and get out of said jeans - only the jeans. His boxershorts still clung to his hips. Was he teasing you?
Nevertheless was the sight he graced you with enough to turn you on even more. Clenching your thighs to relieve at least a little bit tension, your eyes got stuck on what he was packaging inside those shorts. You could clearly tell that Daryl was more than excited; the small wet patch unmistakable.
A small smirk tugged at the archer's lips as he noticed your staring. He stepped closer to the bed; taking his vest in his hands once more and wanted to move it out of the way. That was the moment you stopped him; snapping out of your lustful thoughts.
"Wait."
Daryl's blue-grey eyes met yours; slight confusion swirling within them. "Put it back on. Please." Your husband frowned. "Wha'? Ya want me ta wear ma vest when we...?" You nodded shyly; biting your lip. "Yeah... 'S kinda hot." Daryl shrugged, "Aight." and threw the leather garment over his head; slipping inside. "Whatever ma lady wants." The he proceeded to crawl on the bed. His knees settled between your opened legs; hands digging in the mattress beside your shoulders, keeping him towered above you.
You smiled and ran your palms from the lapels of his chest up his neck and buried your fingers in his curls. "Mh, yeah... That's it. Can't believe I never asked you to wear your vest all those years before..." Daryl just scoffed playfully and leaned down to capture your lips in another feverish kiss.
"Less talkin'..." His gravel voice urged to your ears then, "... 'n more doin'." as his calloused fingers danced over your clothed skin; starting to undress you.
With the anticipation and desire running through your veins, you loved to give your man a helping hand; getting rid of the unnecessary clothes even faster.
Once your whole body was entirely exposed, Daryl sat back on his haunches, letting his eyes roam now. "Fuckin' hell... 'M never gonna get tired of seein' ya naked in ma bed. Yer beauty stuns me every damn time, sunshine."
You almost blushed at his sweet words and wanted to give him an answer for his compliment, but the words died down in your throat as he started to kiss his way up from your navel to your chest. A soft moan was all that slipped past your lips.
"D-Daryl..." You breathed; hands fumbling with his boxershorts. You didn't want to wait a minute longer. He was driving you crazy - and you had to have him. Now.
The archer showed mercy and helped you along to get rid of it; throwing the piece of clothing carelessly to the bedroom floor, before he flopped on the mattress beside you. Shaking a few curls out of his face, he outstretched his arms to grip the headboard, before he gave you a nod. "Wanna take a ride?"
It was an offer you couldn't deny. You never could.
Sweat rolled down the archer's temple and forehead; causing a few strands of chestnut brown hair to stick to his hot skin. A frown adorned his face; eyes shut close and mouth slightly agape. His knuckles had already turned white at how hard he was gripping the headboard. You could feel his heaving chest underneath your palms as you moved with a slow pace on top of him. Too slow for Daryl...
"Goddammit, woman!" He growled lowly. "Stop teasin' me, will ya?!" You tried to hide your smile; biting your lip instead. You loved to tease him a little. Of course, you'd not always do it, but when you did... Oh boy, then you were in for a long night...
You stopped in your movements - causing a frustrated grunt to slip past your man's lips, before you leaned down to whisper in his ear. "Do something about it then."
And he did.
The words had barely left your lips, when your husband released his grip on the headboard and placed his hands on your hips instead. Quicker than you were able to react, flipped you Daryl over with a grunt.
You squeaked up; your back hitting the soft mattress. Now the archer was on top - and he didn't intend to lose any time.
Casually throwing your legs over his shoulders, he tested the waters with a sharp, strong thrust - which literally knocked the wind out of your lungs and left you breathless. Well, it's been a little over two weeks since you lastly got down to it... "O-Oh my g-god!" You breathed; face contorting in sheer endless pleasure.
What you didn't see was the little sneaky and satisfied smile on your man's lips, but then you felt him picking up a steady pace; almost making you see stars already.
"Shit, D-Daryl!" You panted; fingertips digging into the bedsheets. Seconds later, you felt his hand on top of yours. He gently took your smaller one in his bigger one; intertwining your fingers. It was a gesture you knew too well. Especially after all those years. He was checking in on you; making sure he wasn't too rough.
Daryl wasn't. Not today. Not after all that shit both of you went through in the past days. You needed this. Him. So, you gave his hand a reassuring squeeze; signalling your man that he was good to go.
The next minutes passed for you in a haze. You were lost. Lost in the feeling; lost in the pleasure; lost in Daryl.
Only when you felt your husband's body slightly collapsing onto yours did you slowly come back down to earth.
Daryl's sweaty forehead came to rest against your forehead; feeling his laboured breath on your lips. He was barely holding himself hovered above you; afraid to crush you if his arms gave in.
A smile tugged at the corners of your mouth. You ran your hands up his bare arms and over his shoulders, before burying them in his damp hair. "I missed you so much, sweetie."
The archer smiled back and captured your lips in sweet, gentle kiss. "I missed ya, too, sunshine."

The hangar was bustling with pilots, droids and other Resistance fighters; maintaining and repairing their ships and coordinating things. You didn't pay much attention, though. Your focus was entirely on getting your X-Wing prepared for your mission. But just as you wanted to board your star-fighter, a voice cut through the noises of heavy machinery and chatter. A voice you only knew too well.
"Y/N! Y/N wait!"
You knew you shouldn't; knowing that your friend would only try to hold you back, but you also just couldn't leave.
"Y/N!" Finn called out again; reaching you completely out of breath. "Finn. What are you doing here?" You had a guess, but asked anyway.
"Don't... Don't go." The former stormtrooper panted; looked at you with a pleading gaze. You sighed. "Finn... I have to." He violently shook his head. "No, no you don't. We'll find another way!" "There's no other way," you said; placing a hand on his shoulder. "There always is!" Your friend immediately shot back; almost desperate. "No. Not this time."
A frustrated groan left the man's lips. "Why, Y/N? Why you?! Why must you do this?! Just because you're former friends with this... traitorous snake?"
You sighed once again; memories of your youth quite a few years back flooded your mind, causing you to quickly shut your eyes and close them off again. Now was not the time to wallow in the past.
"We weren't just friends, Finn." It was all you said, before you climbed inside the X-Wing.
"Not just friends?" Finn had clearly trouble to catch up what you meant. "What is that supposed to- Hold on..." All features of your friend's face derailed. The next words he literally shouted at you fell on deaf ears. The cockpit around you was already closed. You took a deep breath, ignored Finn and started the engines. He had no other choice than to step aside and let you go.
You left the hanger and with that the main Resistance cruiser behind. But before you set course for the planet below you, you sent a last message to your General. Leia Organa.
"This is Y/N Kenobi on my way back to D'Qar. General Organa... You might not agree on this, but we both know that I have to do it. It's probably my last- no... My only chance." You paused; taking another deep breath. "I'm going to bring him back to you, Leia. Back to us. I will leave D'Qar with him... Or not at all." With those words you ended your message and addressed your droid. "BB-7?" The familiar beeping of your mechanic friend caused you to smile. "Can you send this message to General Organa as soon as we landed?" The answer came promptly. "Thanks, buddy. Now let's get this done." With that you flew off; opposed the direction of your people. While the Resistance evacuated D'Qar, you flew straight back into the danger zone; hoping that your target would come alone and not bringing any friends.
On your monitor, you saw the ships of the Resistance fleet jump to light speed and vanish on the radar.
You flew straight back to the now former base, hid away your X-Wing in the deep forests of the planet and waited. Waited for your destiny to find its way to you.
And it did.
You could already feel his presence through the force. Even though he hadn't stepped a single foot on this planet. Yet.
You hid on top of one of the tarnished mounds, right behind a massive satellite; watching his shuttle invade the sky above you. You expected him to fire everything he got at the base, but you also knew that he wasn't stupid. He landed - and when the ramp lowered and he stepped out, you felt your breath catch in your throat; heartbeat quickening.
You hadn't seen him in years. Lastly when he destroyed Luke's Jedi temple on Ossus all those years back. Once more, memories flooded your mind. Of that very night. How you tried to talk sense into Ben; screaming his name through the fire, cries and whirring sound of lightsabers. In vain. It was the moment you realised that you had lost him.
And now you were here to get him back.
Due to the mask he wore, you couldn't see his face, of course, but you knew that he must at least feel that something was off. He stood in the middle of the deserted base; looking around for a few moments. Then he made his way towards one of the entries.
That was it. The moment you had waited for; destiny finally catching up with you.
You took a deep breath and left your hiding place.
"They aren't here anymore. Nobody is. You're too late."
Kylo stopped in his movements; like frozen to the ground with his back towards you. You jumped from the mound; landing on the earthy ground right behind him. He clearly needed a moment to recover.
"Am I?" His distorted voice urged to your ears; almost causing your knees to give in. You were so weak in this very moment; knowing that your feelings for him hadn't changed. Not even in the slightest. The difficulty was to hide it from him.
"Yes," you answered as stoically as possible. "You won't find the Resistance fighters here. Neither your mother, nor your uncle."
Suddenly, he turned to face you, "That may be. But you are here." and started to slowly pace up and down. "Why?"
"Because I have to. It's where I need to be. My destiny."
"Your destiny?" Kylo spat mockingly. "This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard."
Yes... That clearly wasn't the man you once knew. The man you kissed at night and secretly shared a bed with; breaking the rules. But what he did was way worse than breaking some rules.
You clenched your teeth; knowing that you had to stay strong.
"Take at least that stupid mask off you're hiding behind, when you talk to the woman you once shared a bed with!" You could tell that your words hit a nerve; seeing his fists clench and unclench.
Silence settled over the base, until a mechanic hiss sounded from across you. He was taking his mask off. You didn't expect this. Not at all. And when familiar brown eyes met yours, you felt like a deer caught in the headlights. You couldn't even move a single muscle. All you did was looking in those beautiful brown eyes, which were once filled with love and gentleness. The same brown eyes you so often sought and found comfort in. Which had been your safe haven. The key element of your whole existence. The ones you had trusted with your life.
And now? Now they only held darkness, strength and raw power. This realisation ripped your heart into shreds. You wanted to be so strong and now you had to fight so hard against the upcoming tears.
Avoiding his gaze was the only salvation. So you did; let your gaze wander over his facial features instead.
He had grown; was definitely more mature. That much you could tell. The sweet, happy, sunny boy replaced by a cold, harsh, merciless man.
Nevertheless, you couldn't deny that he was the same handsome man with the beautiful long black curls you fell in love with.
Kylo didn't say a single word either; just looking at you seemingly emotionless.
You shook your head; suppressing the tears. "What happened to you, Ben?" "I've seen the truth, Y/N. I killed the past."
This shot a searing pain through your whole body. "Killed the past? Ben, this isn't your destined path! You can still turn around! It's not too late!"
The man opposite you furrowed his brows. "That's why you're here? To win me over?" "No... This isn't just about winning you over. I'm here because I want the man I love back." Now Kylo was the one shaking his head. "It's too late for that, Y/N. You can't turn me. Nothing won't change my mind. Not even love. I'm going to do what I have to do and fulfil my grandfather's legacy...," he snarled; drawing his lightsaber. With an ear-piercing hiss came its blood red blade to light, "...and nobody will stop me. Not even you." pointed straight into your direction.
You swallowed hard and drew your lightsaber as well. Unlike Kylo's blade was yours blue. "Well, that's too bad for you, because I am not going to let you walk away a second time. I already made that mistake once. I won't let it happen again."
"Foolish of you to believe this. You've got too much of your father and grandfather in you." "Yes... Just like you, Solo."
Kylo gritted his teeth and stormed forwards; his lightsaber clashing against yours.
The fight was hard, rough and unforgiving. You and Kylo threw in everything you got; not once backing up or lacking stamina. One moment Kylo had the upper hand and the next you. Your battle had led you away from the base and all the way into the woods; leaving a trail of burnt earth and destroyed trees behind.
And to make matters even worse, it had started to rain.
You stood on a hill; panting heavily. Kylo stood on the forest ground beneath you; throwing you an angry look.
"Let us stop this madness! Ben, please!" You screamed through the rain; feeling the water soaking your robes. He shook his head; waterdrops dripping from his black curls, "No! We are going to finish what we started!" and raised his lightsaber once more; ready to attack. "It's me - or you!"
You just stared at him for another moment, before you took a deep breath - and jumped. With a loud hiss met your lightsaber his. The strength of your blow caused him to stumble backwards, but he quickly recovered. Once again he stormed forwards and wanted to strike you, but you lifted both your arms; catching his wrists before he was able to hit you.
It was the first time since years, that you touched Ben again - and it almost took your breath away. It felt like time itself froze around you and him.
The force flowing through both your veins connected you; causing visions to explode in front of your eyes. Visions of the future. What was and what could be. They flew by way too fast. It was impossible for you to grasp all of them. But no matter how fast they came and went, they all had one thing in common... A different setting, but the same outcome. You and Ben. Together.
One showed you the two of you flying around the galaxy; exploring every existent planet. Another showed the two of you leading the Resistance, together with his mother. You saw love, a marriage, children - a family.
And suddenly it was all gone. Nothing but silence. Around you. In your mind. Everywhere.
Slowly, you blinked your eyes open; feeling the cold, wet forest ground underneath you. Still a bit dizzy and confused, you stood up and tried to understand what had happened.
Kylo sat on the groud as well, quite a few meters away from you.
The force... The two of you touching each other after such a long time was apparently too much.
But you knew what you saw. He must've seen it, too...
On still wobbly legs and knees, you walked over to Ben; hand outstretched. "Come with me. Please. I've seen the conflict inside you. I've seen your future. Our future. You must have seen it, too!"
Once again were those beautiful brown eyes looking up at you; reflecting the conflict you had seen. "I..." He eyed your hand; the light and darkness battling within Kylo. "I can't," he breathed; eyes filling up with tears.
There it was. The glimmer of hope.
You nodded. "Yes, yes you can! Just take my hand!"
He blinked; torn apart about what to do.
You were absolutely certain that you made it - made him see, but then Kylo acted too fast for you to react. Within the blink of an eye, he jumped to his feet and brought you down on your knees; both lightsabers flying off the ground and into his hands.
That was it. He had overpowered you. You couldn't stand a chance.
Perhaps he was right and it was really too late - but you refused to believe this and started one last desperate try.
"What are you waiting for? Do it! Kill me!" Kylo activated both lightsabers; jaw clenching. "Do it!" You screamed at him again. "I'd rather die than live my life without you; knowing that I really lost you forever!"
Your words caused the man towering above you to freeze in his movements.
"You... You would rather die than live without me?" Kylo asked in disbelief. Wind blew through his hair; rain hitting his face again. "Of course I would! You are all I ever wanted and needed! Don't you see?!"
He answered nothing; only stared at you. The gears in his head turning at lightning speed. Seconds felt like minutes, before he extinguished both blades of the weapons in his hands and threw them carelessly aside. You couldn't believe your eyes when he was dropping to his knees as well in front of you; taking both your hands in his. "I... I think I see now. Clearly, for the first time in my life."
