TheĀ original 2005 NY times article. The idea being reiterated in 2018 by a federal judge in Florida regarding the Parkland shooting.
Get Capitalism Out Of Healthcare
Healthcare capitalism deserves to be destroyed.
4.17.21. Brooklyn Center, MN
Police dispersed a protest shortly into the night, then forced all journalists to surrender and consent to photographs of their faces, credentials, and IDs. Police also arrested marked medics for being present.
A local church opened to injured protestors the night before, and dozens of police responded by surrounding the church the following day.
Police are the acting arm of fascism.
police response is similar in other cities, like LA and NY pictured here. All cops have an interest in their own power and demanding their ability to kill with impunity.
That picture of the cops surrounding the church looks like a joke. Itās not.
Itās not a joke. In fact most of those guys standing around doing absolutely nothing of value for their community are earning overtime. Which will cost their community more. For nothing of value.
When people say āDefund the Policeā this is part of what they mean. Useless displays of force that only serve to brutalize their citizens and result in cities paying out millions of dollars in settlements.

Teamster Strike
January 18, 2021. New York
Police made two demonstrations violent by charging, injuring, and arresting people at protests for police accountability and workers striking for a $1/hr pay increase. Over 30 people were arrested at the two actions, double the number of arrests of white supremacists who stormed the Capitol in DC.
The Teamster workers arrested have since all been released and are striking again.
NYPD PBA tweeted this the same day they beat and arrested people demonstrating for Black lives and for higher pay.

Just gonna leave this here
So someone pointed out to me recently that in a few years, maybe a few decades, the history of the us during covid is probably going to get twisted. The fact that we all had to make and wear cloth masks is going to be hailed as a symbol of how we ā"came together as a nationāāā or whatever the fuck propaganda spin they try to put on it.
So I just want to say, for the record, the time of the corona virus pandemic was not a time when america came together.
This was a time when people hoarded toilet paper and sanitizing supplies either for themselves or to sell at absurd prices to the desperate people who didnāt get to the store soon enough during the shortages
This was a time when scared parents were sending their kids to finish school in the spring in plastic trash bags because they couldnāt think of any other way to possibly keep their families safe
This was a time when grocery store and retail and service workers were forced to keep working whether they wanted to risk their health or not because they couldnāt make rent otherwise and the people with enough privilege to have remote jobs tried to repay them with applause instead of fair wages
This was a time when nurses had the hold the hands of multiple dying people every day as their families watched their loved ones die over a video call because the hospital couldnāt risk having visitors
This was a time when city governments had to handle so many eviction hearings that they rented out convention centers and called in the national guard instead of doing a rent freeze to stop predatory landlords
This was a time when racism and police brutality were so unbearably horrible that people protested in the streets for months even though there was a god damn pandemic that our federal government wasnāt doing shit to stop and the cops were so mad that they were being asked to stop beating up black people that they were beating up everyone
This was a time when schools being forced to reopen in the fall or lose their federal funding had to draft templates for letters if a teacher or a staff person or a fucking child died from exposure to corona at school
This was a time when the president of the United states demanded that the cdc stop releasing data about all the people who were dying because of the warnings he ignored for months were making him look bad
This was a time when some state governments didnāt mandate masks and forced businesses to reopen because they didnāt want to pay unemployment to people trying to stay safe at home anymore
This was a time when Jeff Bezos was on track to be a fucking trillionare because everyone was ordering things on amazon instead of going to the store and the people he worked to death to get it didnāt see a single cent of it
This was a time when instead of providing homeless people with housing, we painted boxes on the ground to show homeless people how far away the had to be on the street to maintain social distancing
We did not come together to make cloth masks. Cloth masks represent nothing less than the absolute and utter failure of a nationās government to inform and protect its citizens
This was not a time when we came together. This was a time when we survived, and not all of us made it.
This was a time when people casually talked about how many human lives the economy was worth without considering the evil that had just come out of their mouths.
This was a time when thousands of us died for profit and the ego of a cheating narcissists con man who scammed his way into the white house
This was a time that we survived. Most of us tried to do the right thing, stay home, limit trips to the store and socializing, wear a mask. And still, so many of us were lost. Thousands every day.
But that wasnāt a good enough reason for some people, for those among us who were too selfish to recognize the responsibilities we have toward one another as human beings.
This was not a time that we came together
This was a time that we survived
Not all of us made it
And those of us who did survive will never forget the evil we saw daily in our politicians and those around us
I work in a store where most of the customers are crotchety middle aged men, which makes it absolutely hell to work in as a young woman.Ā
Today I actually overheard two men talking about how they prefer when a girl is at the front of the store enforcing the mask mandate, one guy saying āyeah with girls all you have to do is yell and get real loud and scary and they usually back down"Ā
On some level I already knew this, my male co-workers have even told me they seldom ever have problems when itās their turn to be at the front enforcing the mask mandate and most customers are pretty compliant with them, but for me and the other women who works at the store itās like every other customer is getting in my face screaming at me and trying to intimidate me and scare me into letting them in without a mask. But itās still so upsetting to actually hear it that some customers do intentionally try to be scary and scream at me and intimidate me just because Iām a woman they think theyāll get away with it easier.Ā
But my managers keep putting me at the front because itās like they think customers are more likely to be nice and polite to me because of my gender. Fucking no!!! Itās the opposite!!! They scream at me more because they think Iāll be passive and submissive and back down easier!!! And itās fucking with my mental health to have men scream at me and try to intimidate me every day!!! And when Iām not at by the door being screamed at and men trying to intimidate me then Iām on register where men are always saying creepy inappropriate comments to me!!! Iām sick of it!! Misogyny is real!!!
employees should be allowed to steal, actually
idk. yesterday was a slow day and at the end of it, I still stared into a cash drawer, one of three, that had more than my rent in it, even if you only count the 20s. I spent a lot of that day trying to calculate in my head how many hours of work equal one pair of pants, let alone how many hours of work equals the fun thing I want to do next month.
I feel a cough coming on, because I work in a drug store, and all of my customers are sick. I always feel a little bit sick, now. I canāt afford to eat well enough to keep my body healthy. Cough medicine is worth two hours and 20 minutes of work. Our store probably bought a case of cough medicine for they price weāre selling one box. If this cough gets worse, I might have to call out, which will cost me more than the medicine in the long run- but that doesnāt give me the money to buy the medicine right now. I stock a case onto the shelf. I donāt buy any.
A mom wrangling three crying, sick kids enters my line and sets two types of childrenās medicine down, says theyāre both on sale and thank god for that. I ring her up, and she gets very quiet, because she misread the sign, and her total is twice as high as she was expecting. Her youngest screams in the cart, because sheās burning up with fever. Her mother very quietly asks, please, sheās so sorry, if I could please take the more expensive one off her total.
I agree, I move the box below the counter, and when sheās not looking, I slip it into her bag. I pray as hard as I can that if she notices the āmistakeā she says nothing, because I so desperately want her to have that medicine. The store has lost profit at the cost of a childās health. I donāt bat an eye. This is a terminable offense. If Iām presented with the same situation tonight, Iāll do it in a heartbeat.
The myth of evil employees stealing from the company falls apart the second you realize the company would shoot you dead to make a profit. This isnāt two equal players, one of whom is stealing from the other. This is someone fighting for survival versus someone fighting to make an extra million. Itās not equal.
Employees should be able to steal, actually.
