Five-year-olds hucking dirt clods at the passing car, the grand view from this church might test one's perspective. The bent-leg gimp of Caz, a 40-year neighbor, is altogether indifferent. He nevertheless knows when service begins. #Barstow (at Grandview Baptist Church)
#OakHills Varsity 2-0 win. JV tie 2-2 after epic passing goal from Jesse, to Junior, to German for incredible finish. Another dominating passing game. #Hesperia JV lobbed one of few shots from wide in corner for skilled finish. Second goal referee handed them after bizarre call. #OHHS #OHHSsoccer #Soccer #HighDesert (at Hesperia High School)

#OakHillsHighSchool JV #soccer victory over #Adelanto, the most well rounded opponent we've faced this season. Woe To Him. Woe To Him.
Were this island a rock. So then would I be a worthy foundation of sustenance to build upon. But nay is the way unto oneself where one resides.
Yet again a man be stranded amid his woeful ways. Upon a sinking sand of pestulence from which a lonely man may gaze. Wrapped amid his misery the ocean of which he hath gathered about.
So too is this the desolation and the grand plan that he wagered. If only such a sullen self were now to walk upon water. Then might he have a way to walk away from such a fallacy that he be as self made as the god he's given himself.
Woe to him. Woe to him.
How might a man have been such a fool. To what end might a man torment himself for such a way he'd wrought. Within himself the wages of a war since time began he fought.
Tearing down upon him the very spirit to strive on. Where is it that a man may be rescued from this sinking ship and away from these waters that he walk upon.
Self loathing is as a foot that is lame. Perpetuation of such guilt drives the depths of such shame.
Woe to him. Woe to him.
All alters upon this island are long lifeless in despair. To all those long shunned by him might show such grace that this island of a man be spared. Who upon these waters dare to rescue a man to himself he ensnared.
Woe to him. Woe to him.
From Right Or Wrong To A Refined Proclamations
The American author, William Dean Howells (March 1, 1837 – May 11, 1920), once wrote: "My country, right or wrong."
Later, he refined the aforementioned proclamation, writing: "When our country is wrong she is worse than other countries when they are wrong, because she has more light than other countries, and we ought somehow to make her feel that we are sorry and ashamed for her."
As The School Of Hard Knocks Unfolded Upon 1970-Something Whittier Boulevard
Motoring through the bustling life of Whittier Boulevard, I eagerly crept up over the edge of the black vinyl seat, inching my eyes upward over the dashboard for a glimpse at late 1970-something. I soaked it up like a sponge.
I scanned and analyzed. I admired and was shocked, perplexed and awoken to the scene that unfolded as we meandered through the alley ways and wove our way onto the side streets and again unto the main drag. We'd ease upon a gaggle of nervous elements to toss a tactical curve ball and next were flagged down to finish an old conversation or two with old friends or previously-criminal adversaries.
The methodic flow to the moment maintained as much harmony as it did purpose. Where we drove, we were noticed, according to the dictates of a purposed protocal.
I was riding shot gun in a patrol car with my dad. And that's the way it was most Saturdays as a boy.
He'd give me just enough time to weigh upon the diminutive details, the very elements that collectively made the mass landscape of East Los Angeles. And just as I quandered into oblivion, he'd interject in an unwavering manner of authority, delivering a life lesson to be learned from the school of hard knocks that unfolded before us. The recurring theme maintained course. Given just ere tossing my last ditch volley, firing off a question in hopes of acquiring even a sliver of understanding: "Because he never had a father around to set him straight."
